what Nomos from the German town of Glashütte does best. Since
its establishment in the early 1990s the watch house in Saxony has
exerted an overwhelming attraction on watch lovers looking for
something different, something original, something ‘designery’. But
which Nomos appeals the most? Chronolytics found out for us.

The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater by A. Lange &

‘soul’. Everything about the watch is idiosyncratic
and that results in a unique rhythm and sound.
The brain behind this ultra-complicated creation
is Tony de Haas. Apart from being the Director of
Product Development at Lange the Dutchman is
also a passionate drummer. Together with Tony,

less true. The watch Tony gives me is the star of
the show, the incredible and incredibly expensive Zeitwerk Minute Repeater. Tony bursts out
laughing at my shocked reaction and quickly
moves on to the order of the day, tuning his
large drum set. Rock ’n roll Lange style. The
drums and cymbals form a link to the decimal
minute repeater from Glashütte, because a
wooden drum sounds different than a brass
one, in the same way that a minute repeater
watch with a platinum case sounds different
than one in rose gold. Incidentally, there is a
drum kit waiting for me as well - the former

honour of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, which is sponsored by Chopard, is a real
“gentleman racing driver’s watch”. The 44.5mm matte titanium case looks functional and
plain and the yellow accents and perforated strap are instantly reminiscent of the speed
devils of yesteryear. A chronometer-exact automatic movement provides the power.
Hublot Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono
The heart of the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono is a new manufacture movement
consisting of 385 components. This is the irst Hublot movement with bi-retrograde
hands, which measure the seconds and minutes. The oficial watch of the Football World
Championships in Brazil makes a perfect referee, as the main function is keeping track of
the match time. A window in the centre of the dial also shows whether the irst or second
half of a football match is in progress. The time display is not as prominent and can be
seen at 6 o’clock on a small, secondary dial.

There are probably not many people who
don't know the names Senna, Lauda, Hunt
and Schumacher. Even those who are not
into motor racing know that these are names
of legendary racing drivers. Tazio Nuvolari is
a name that mostly invokes a reaction among
motor racing fans who know their history, or
among watch lovers. After all, Eberhard & Co.
has been paying tribute to ‘the Flying

models bearing his name.

models bearing the name of the motor racing
champion and the Gran Premio Nuvolari. The
watches and the race have been closely linked
since 1991, when Eberhard & Co. became the
partner and oficial time keeper for the Nuvolari Grand Prix and started building a series of
watches to pay tribute to one of the best drivers
of all time. The 25th edition of the Nuvolari

of 1,070 km. The race is not so much about pure
speed but consists of 15 different types of trials.
Driving the exact average stated speed is an
example of such a trial. A record number of
300 participants raced and navigated the track,
which incorporated the circuits of San Martino
del Lago and Varano, the Cisa and Bocca Serriola Alpine passes, plus a number of street
circuits including that of Castello Ferrara. The
participating cars, all produced between 1919
and 1969, also called in to the historic centres

OMEGA GLOBEMASTER
Meesterlijke
precisie
Woensdagavond 18 maart. De
volgende dag staat BaselWorld
beeld.
D
e naam Globemaster doet vliegtuigenthousiasten onmiddellijk
horlogeliefhebbers? Enkel de toegewijde
Omega-liefhebber weet dat in de jaren ’50
sommige Constellations een wijzerplaat
hadden waarop de naam Globemaster
prijkte. Dat de naam niet onmiddellijk een
belletje doet rinkelen doet geenszins afbreuk
is.
Vier jaar volledige garantie
controle-eisen.
COSC of METAS?
D
e tijden van precisiewedstrijden
mogen dan ver achter ons liggen,
Omega is geobsedeerd door zo
nauwkeurig mogelijke chronometeruurwerken.
Omega’s eigen Sedna goud). De co-axiale,
anti-magnetische kalibers zijn uitgevoerd
met een silicium balansveer en het gekozen
tikgetal is 25.200 vibraties per uur, oftewel
3,5 Hz.
volledige garantie.
Eclectisch design
H
et uiterlijk van de Globemaster is
een goed voorbeeld van eclectisch
design.
