XSport Fitness Strengthens Member Services
CASE STUDY DRAFT RETAIL XSport Fitness Strengthens Member Services With Samsung Cloud Displays XSport Fitness is one of America’s fastest growing fitness chains, providing its 240,000 members with state-of-the-art equipment, personal trainers, educational programs, and spa services. XSport Fitness has over 30 retail locations in New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C. with plans to continue its rapid growth. Profile Country: United States Sector: Retail Founded: 1997 Challenge Deliver agile and low-cost computing to employees and members Solution Challenges of Managing Bulky PCs Each XSport Fitness club used to have 25-30 PCs for their sales registers, member check-in, Internet café, personal training, and membership management. Due to security concerns, the PCs were back-racked in the computer room with KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) extenders to the work area. Purchasing PCs, monitors and KVM extenders was expensive and managing them was challenging because the locations were hundreds of miles apart. “We needed a better way to manage our end-client infrastructure and researched Samsung Cloud displays with the Teradici zero-client processors,” says Mr. Judah Sameth, IT Director. Slimming Down with Samsung Cloud Displays Samsung Cloud displays are a whole new class of integrated monitors specially designed for desktop virtualization and cloud computing. They have the thin/zero client technology built right into the monitor, so there is no need for a separate PC or thin/zero-client – just the Cloud display. With Cloud displays, employees can log in from any Cloud display and access their authorized applications and data files from a slim, clutter-free and energy-efficient monitor. “We tested them extensively with our software applications, POS scanner and camera – and it all worked perfectly,” says Mr. Judah Sameth. XSport first deployed the Samsung Cloud displays in the Internet cafés. Now, each club’s café has eight Samsung Cloud displays that are directly connected to servers in the corporate data center and managed centrally. “We strive to provide a premium member experience and the Samsung Cloud’s sleek, clutterfree design and performance match up to the XSport Fitness brand promise,” says Mr. Dan Morrissey, Chief Operating Officer. •SyncMaster Cloud displays (Models NC190 & NC240) •Connected to VMware vSphere™ desktop virtualization platform Impact •80% Less electricity use •62% Fewer service calls •38% Lower acquisition cost •83% Faster deployment •5 Minute remote recovery DRAFT CASE STUDY RETAIL In addition to the cafés, all new retail locations are now designed and outfitted with Samsung Cloud displays. “It is so much easier to deploy the Cloud displays compared to traditional desktop PCs,” says Mr. Sameth, “and the Cloud displays never break – we have yet to replace one in two years.” Cloud Displays - Xtremely Fit for Duty XSport Fitness is a measurements-driven organization with detailed performance data on its end-client infrastructure. Pumping Uptime and Member Satisfaction In addition to the productivity and cost benefits, employee uptime has improved dramatically. If an employee has a computer virus or software issue, the IT help desk can provision a new session in five minutes. “Users are happy because downtime is a thing of the past,” says Mr. Sameth. XSport has also seen higher members satisfaction scores. “We absolutely recommend Samsung Cloud displays to other companies – it just makes so much sense,” says Mr. Sameth.
