A Publication of Candlewood Valley Corvette Club – August 2016 Intake & Exhaust August, 2016 Club Picnic – August 14th, 2016 Our next General Meeting will be on Thursday September 15th at The Hearth Restaurant Candlewood Valley Corvette Club, P.O. Box 2205, Danbury Ct. 06813-2205 1 A Publication of Candlewood Valley Corvette Club – August 2016 President's Corner For those of us who were waiting for the warm weather to arrive, July and August have been as hot as anyone can remember in recent years. Strings of 90 degree plus days have been the norm lately, including for our annual picnic on Sunday, August 14. Although the weather forecast had been for high temperatures and thunderstorms, we lucked out and beat the rain that had been predicted before most of us got home. The day was hot, but not unbearable, with a nice breeze coming from the forest to help cool the pavilion as usual, the picnic was well attended, with good food and good company. A brief meeting was held and for that reason, those present saw no reason to have another meeting on Thursday, August 18. Among the topics discussed were the following upcoming events in which some Club members participate: - August 25 to 28, Vettes at Carlisle. - Labor Day weekend at Lime Rock, Thursday to Monday. Sunday in the Park Car Show, Monday- Race. - Adirondack Vette Fest, Glens Falls/Lake George, NY, September 9-11. - West Point Cruise and lunch, September 17. - 'Vettes to Vets in Billerica, MA, September 24 and 25. - Cruise to Essex, CT for Steam Train excursion and Connecticut Riverboat Cruise, October 1. - Ocean City Maryland, Free State Corvette weekend, October 14 to 16. - The Vietnam traveling wall, "The Wall That Heals" will visit New Milford, October 27 to 30. Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Financial support is also needed to help defray the $11,000 cost of bringing the wall to New Milford. The American Legion Post 31 is selling medallions in a velour case to help defray costs. 2 A Publication of Candlewood Valley Corvette Club – August 2016 On August 6, a "No-Car-Show" Party was held at my house on the lake and was well attended with about 30 members present. Many members brought appetizers and desserts and a good time was had by all. Because Bennett Automotive's location has been sold, we had to move our Club's trailer to a new location. Tom Fluskey has graciously agreed to keep the trailer on his property in Bethel. David Zschunke and I moved the trailer to Tom's house. We are trying to have Club name badges made for sale to those members who want them, in time for the Club's upcoming events in September and October. An email will be sent to members detailing the cost and asking for the exact name(s) desired on the badges. Joe Wodarski President Vice President’s Corner First I would like to thank Sui and Joe for hosting our NO Show BBQ. Everyone had a great time and the weather cooperated. Donna and I are now Danbury residence and once the dust settles I will be looking purchase another Corvette. If anyone would like to purchase any Candlewood Club apparel please go on Gali’s website. Hope to see everyone at Sunday’s picnic.
