Our 2014-2015 Season We are very excited about our schedule for the 2014-2015 Club Year. See page 3 for details. We still have some openings for performers. Please reserve a concert time for your performance with an R.S.V.P. to [email protected] As we have been doing during the past few club years, we have moved away from having every monthly meeting on the first Tuesday. We hope that with meetings at different days and times, more members will find times convenient for them to attend. Also, our longtime sponsor, Hendricks Pianos, no longer has evening hours. Thus, there are several locations for programs this year. Thank You’s We begin our new 2014-2015 Club Year by awarding Barbara Dickerman an Honorary Membership. Barbara’s most recent term on the board as Member-at-Large ended in May. We thank her for the insight she added to the board meetings as well as her long history of service to DGMC, in many, many capacities. Piano Festival & Competition The 2015 Piano Festival & Competition will be on Sunday, April 19, 2015, with the honors recitals April 26th. Piano Festival Chairperson Elissa Metropoulos reports that the 2015 application packet is complete. Area piano teachers have been sent the festival materials over the summer. All applications and detailed instructions can also be obtained at www.downersgrovemusicclub.org . Please click on the “Piano Festival“ link you see on the right side of the screen. The concert will be hosted by Elissa Metropoulos and will feature performances by Angela Presutti Korbitz –soprano, Jennifer Leckie—violin, Michael Surratt—organ, Chris Garofalo—piano, Tim Edwards—cello and Justin Sisul—piano. A delicious reception, catered by J. Flemings Absolutely Delicious, and a silent auction will follow. All proceeds will support the Rising Stars and College Music awards. Tickets can be purchased on-line through our website, www.downersgrovemusicclub.org. Click on the Notable icon on the left side of the screen or when it appears on the banner at the top of our home page to register. You can also buy tickets at our October program or by calling Charlotte Ewing at 630-985-8472. Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance; $35 after October 28th. Youth 18 or younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Donate to the Silent Auction! Thank you to everyone who contributed to last year’s auction. The concert tickets, CDs, hand made items, framed photography, lessons, performances, food, wine and many more were much appreciated and generated over $3,000 profit. Please contact Charlotte Ewing if you are available to help (630-985-8472 or [email protected]). 2014 Music Awards DGMC has a long tradition of presenting monetary awards to talented student musicians. In 2014, DGMC presented six $400 Rising Stars Awards. In addition, due to very generous donations by Grove Dental and the Nancy Mundinger Memorial Fund and to the success of our fall fundraiser, DGMC was able to present four $1,000 College Music Awards. The total amount of all of the Student Music Awards given last spring is $6,400. All winners were announced at the 2014 Awards Assemblies held on May 6th at Downers Grove South (DGS) and on May 20th at Downers Grove North (DGN). Cellist Andrew Molina, a 2014 graduate of Downers Grove South, is one of the Music Club’s Rising Stars and College Music Award recipients. Abigail Habegger and THESIX Jen Leckie Chris Garofalo The musical performances were outstanding. The evening’s host kept the event running smoothly. Rose Verona The reception was catered by J. Fleming’s Absolutely Delicious. Over 35 businesses and many individuals donated items for the silent auction.
