culture as employing a highly qualified skilled workforce, many of whom have been working for HEFEL for two or three generations.

In the HEFEL ticking weaving mill in Schwarzach (Vorarlberg) the
finest down batiste and feather/fibre-proof fabrics are produced
either as material to be sold by the metre or as finished shells. This
is the origin of the quality and purity of all HEFEL products and
the birthplace of all HEFEL innovations. HEFEL is now one of the
leading ticking weaving mills for finest bedding fabrics.
Quilted products with premium animal hair, natural fibre and fibre
fillings are processed in Kefermarkt (Upper Austria). We use primary
materials carefully selected according to the strictest criteria which our
factory then makes into finest layers of gauzy material for the filling.
These are combined with the finest fabrics from Schwarzach to produce
each individual item of bedding, much of which is made by hand.

mastering craft. This is why HEFEL quilts are quilted in the timeconsuming traditional way, one piece at a time, on made-to-measure
ramin wood frames. Experienced hands stretch the fabric on the
frame like a precious painting. The highest degree of precision and
a trained eye are necessary when the filling and fabric have to be
precisely aligned and prepared for quilting.
The seamless quality assurance system for bedding production guarantees
that only first-class products leave the HEFEL factory gate. The high
quality standards are assured by the best raw materials, innovative
processing and finishing, undertaken directly in Austria. Because the
entire production process - from ticking to quilt - takes place in Austria,
the manufacturing cycle is controlled and guaranteed from start to
finish. 100% quality “MADE IN AUSTRIA” is one of the cornerstones

HEFEL begins its control process with the purchase of the yarn.
Equally tough criteria apply to the production process. During the
final inspection the finished fabric and bedding products are once
again very carefully checked for warp defects, weft defects, finish
defects and any other defects. These controls ensure the highest
quality and enable continuous further development of manufacturing
techniques and material refinement.
Exceptional quality is only made possible by the HEFEL‘s greatest
asset: its loyal, flexible, inquisitive and highly qualified employees.

HEFEL produces the incomparably fine fabrics for its bedding
in-house. Only selected yarns of the highest quality such as organic
cotton from controlled organic cultivation, shiny silky TENCEL®,
SeaCell® Active with sea algae are used as raw materials. These selected
yarns are the raw material for innovative products. Ecological and
economical standards are thus always exceeded by Hefel.
Only the best fillings are good enough for HEFEL quilts. The very
best cashmere from the Himalayas, finest camel underhair from
Mongolia, soft silk from China and exclusive pure new wool from
France. We also offer the latest bioactive fibres such as bamboo, stone
pine (Zirbe), Ingeo made from maize and TENCEL® made from
wood cellulose. 100% pure natural enjoyment. The use of high-tech
functional fibres such as Vitasan® ensures perfect hygiene and effective
protection against allergens.

The starting point for manufacturing a non-woven fabric is
the fibre. During the first stage this is simultaneously roughly
loosened up and de-dusted. The processed fibre material is
blown through pipes to the fine opener. The fibres open up
further during this process.

In the fibre opener the fibre mass is further opened up, dedusted, dirt particles and unwanted short fibres are removed.

In the carding machine the filling fibres are gently and evenly
cleaned one last time and arranged. The various different
rollers „comb“ the fibres, combining them in such a way that
they hook around each other. This gives them better elasticity
and filling volume.

The most important condition for peaceful and refreshing sleep is an ideal sleeping environment. As well as the employment of
natural fibres, the correct quilting is a decisive factor because it must ensure that the quilt fits the body perfectly. HEFEL BodyFit
quilting refers to quilting patterns designed to fit the shape of the body, giving HEFEL quilts their incomparable snugness and

The fluffiness of the quilt filling determines the degree of comfort
whilst asleep and also the warmth retention. HEFEL quilts have
more fluffiness than standard quilts and keep their shape better. A
HEFEL quilt retains its fluffy volume over years of usage.

The HEFEL “comfort” border which surrounds the quilting design is
an indication of the traditional individual finishing. Approximately
15 cm wide and not quilted, it encloses the sleeping surface and gives
protection from cold outside air.

In addition, the fluffiness is further optimized by the HEFEL “TopBausch” process. The spirally curled form individual fibres enables
them to be arranged gently and evenly in a springlike manner. The
filling thus has outstanding elasticity and capacity.
HEFEL‘s very modern quilting stitch technology gives the stitching
an exceptionally fine appearance which visibly enhances the select
quality of HEFEL quilts. Each of the approx. 6,400 stitches is individually secured so that a HEFEL seam can never come undone even
if the thread breaks.

The edging band is sewn by hand throughout and secured by the
HEFEL quilting stitch. This guarantees exceptional shape stability
and durability. The “round corners” of HEFEL quilts are characteristic
of the handiwork with a single finishing seam.

The finer the individual layers, the more air and thus warmth can the
filling store. Every HEFEL filling consists of up to 25 separate layers
of gauzy material. These are laid criss-cross on top of each other and

moisture in a completely controlled and even manner and rapidly
disperses it. This characteristic ensures that the bed stays pleasantly

A comparison of the surfaces of cotton and TENCEL® quickly reveals
the difference: TENCEL® is particularly soft due to the smooth fibre
surface. It feels pleasant to the skin and helps to soothe skin irritations
