SCHOOL NEWS
St. Mary School students and staff would like to send
out a huge THANK YOU to our parent volunteers who made the
5K Run/Walk such a success. We cannot thank you enough for
all the hard work and care that you put into this fundraiser. Final
numbers will be forthcoming from Mrs. Thomson, but we wanted
to thank everyone who sponsored the race, ran in the race, and
helped out during the race and then stayed and helped to clean up.
It is amazing to see how much can be accomplished in a short
time when everyone works so well together. Thank you and God
bless you!
Looking forward, our next event is our All Saints Festival which will take place in the Activity Center on the afternoon
of Thursday, October 29th. Everyone is welcome to come and
visit the festival, where the children will dress as their favorite
saint, parade through the school and participate in games based
on saints’ lives. The children will collect prizes as they go
through the games. Everyone has a wonderful time, and parishioners are welcome to join us that afternoon at around 12:45 pm.
The end of the first quarter is coming quickly and report
cards will go home on November 5th. The school year is unfolding in a very positive manner, and we have very happy and loving
students.
As always, St. Mary school students, parents and staff
would like to thank our St. Mary parishioners for your continued
support of the students and school and Catholic education as a
whole.
Yours in Christ,
Sue Penn, Principal

October 25, 2015
October is the month of the Rosary and we delve deeper into this powerful
prayer while remembering that we have Mother Mary as our spiritual
mother. It has been my pleasure to have met Fr. Mark's Mom a few
times. She is a powerful prayer warrior who shared how she raised three
boys to love Jesus and His church. She takes no credit for this as she humbly attributes her success to the power of the Rosary. As she talks about her
spirituality and daily rosary she fondly reported her love for Our Lady as
"Saint Mary". Most people do not refer to Our Lady as Saint Mary, so that
was surprising. However, it came as no surprise to see Fr. Mark assigned
to his first parish named after one of his own mother’s favorite saints. The
prayers of a Mother for her children are powerful. We can take great consolation in knowing that the Mother of God, and our spiritual Mother, Mary
is interceding for us to receive every grace and blessing from the heavenly
court here at her namesake parish, Saint Mary.
As I mentioned in my last article, my son’s whose life was saved through
the intercession of Saint Mary, the mother of Jesus. One Saturday morning
I had a strong call to pray the rosary, however, my girls had an equally
strong desire to go shopping. They kept interrupting my prayer time. When
they finally realized we were not going anywhere until I was finished they
left me to continue the prayer. Quite suddenly I had the most amazing experience, I felt a presence in and around me and began to clearly hear a
voice directing me to read certain scripture passages. Further, I heard these
words, “you must consecrate James to my Immaculate Heart", I knew then
I was experiencing something amazing with Our Lady. She continued on
by saying "promise me, promise me” about 6 times with more urgency
each time. I promised to do this and then each night before bed, on my
knees, I simply said, “Mary I consecrate James to your Immaculate Heart"
and then got up and went to bed.
As a little first grader James came home from school with a large statue of
Our Lady and many rosaries for the family. His teacher would send this
home on the weekends alternating between families. James placed the
statue on the kitchen table, pulled out a rosary and sweetly prayed two full
rosaries by himself as I cooked dinner. He began the third one and I sheepishly said to myself, " oh my gosh he is starting a third one, I better sit
down and pray at least one rosary with him". That day changed something
in our home, I can only explain it as a door was opened to the grace of Our
Lady, Saint Mary.
Fast forward to the consecration story. The following Saturday at 2am,
James, just 18 years old, was brought home by his friends. He was overdosing on a combination of drugs and alcohol. As parents we knew James was
drinking and certainly did not approve but, he had chosen to move out on
his own after he graduated from school. This night came as a complete
shock to us, and worse still James was in trouble with things that were way
beyond his scope of understanding. We learned that he was afraid for his
life! It became very clear to me then why the Blessed Mother asked for the
consecration to her Immaculate Heart. I could not help but think of how she
must have remembered James as a little boy as he prayed his rosary so
fervently. Through the power of Mother Mary’s rosary and daily consecration to her Immaculate Heart she interceded to her Son and helped saved
my little boy’s life. Mary is the perfect mother who loves each one of her
children and only desires good for them.
Again, I want to encourage parents to pray the rosary for your children and
with them as well. Mary first gave the Rosary to St. Dominic along with 15
promises to those who would faithfully recite the rosary. One of her promises states, “I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all
those who shall recite the Rosary." Psalm 144 gives us a rosary message
when David says "Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for
war, and my fingers for battle". God Bless and may you all draw closer to
Saint Mary during this month of the Rosary.
