ST. MARY SCHOOL FUND RAISER:
FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
From the Pastor:
On Tuesday, July 12, I officially become pastor of two parishes:
Marion St. Mary and Cardington Sacred Hearts. Fr. Ryan
Schmit will be the parochial vicar (assistant priest) at both
parishes. Fr. Schmit and I are planning to divide the sacramental
responsibilities at the two parishes as equally as possible. In
the days ahead, we will be working closely with staff and key
volunteers at both parishes to determine what adjustments to
parish schedules may be required and advisable under the new
arrangement. We will also be receiving some assistance with the
Spanish Mass that is offered every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Starting
July 10, on the second Sunday of each month, one of the priests
from St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Columbus will offer the
Spanish Mass. These priests belong to a religious family called
the Missionary Servants of the Word; that’s the same community
that has sent us three lay missionaries this year.
Next Sunday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m., we will be offering a class
in Spanish for parents and godparents planning the baptism of
a child. It is always a beautiful experience to help parents and
godparents understand their role in the spiritual development
and religious training of their children.
Last week another family contacted our office about registering
their children in our parish school. I enjoy the lazy days of
summer but I am also looking forward to the start of another
wonderful school year.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Thomas Buffer

JULY 10, 2016
Padre Thomas Buffer

Who Me?
And God said, “Go, be a CATECHIST.”
And I said, “Who?....Me?”
And God smiled, “Yes!....You!”
And I said:
“But I’m not ready yet.
I’ve got company coming.
And I can’t leave the kids.
And you know there’s no one to take my place.”
And God smiled, “Are you sure?”
And God said, “Go, we need CATECHISTS.”
And I said, “But I don’t want to!”
And God smiled, “I didn’t ask if you wanted to.”
And I said: “Listen, I’m not the kind of person to get involved in
teaching.
Besides, my family won’t like it.
And my neighbors – what will they think?”
And God smiled, “I know well!”
And yet a third time God said,
“Go be a CATECHIST!”
And I said, “Do I have to?”
And God smiled, “Do you love me?”
And I said: “Look, I’m scared!
The kids are going to hate me!
And cut me to pieces.
And I can’t take it all by myself.”
And God smiled, “Where do you think I’ll be?”
And God said to me, “Be a CATECHIST!”
And I said, “Here I am God! Send me!”
We need catechists and catechist assistants. Training will be provided!!!
If God is calling you please call me at 382-2262.

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
St. Mary Parish Festival
Saturday, August 20th,
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 21st,
2:00-6:00 p.m.
St. Mary’s Festival is right around the
corner and we need your help. We have
changed the Festival schedule and
activities around a little bit.
This year, the Chicken Dinners will be
Saturday evening following the 5:00 p.m.
Mass. The dinners will be eat-in or carryout. This year there will be no drive-up, but
carry-out dinners are available. Last year,
the chicken dinners sold out early so you
may want to pick up your dinner tickets early. The tickets will
be available at the rectory.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to
make Tamales? This year our Hispanic
community will be making Tamales on
Saturday afternoon from 12:00 to 4:00
p.m. They are asking that anyone who
would like to make Tamales come and
help. You can also purchase your creations
to take home and share with your family
and friends. The Tamales will also be available for purchase on
Sunday during the Festival.
During the dinner on Saturday
there will be a bake sale of
homemade goodies. We are looking
for bakers to bake cakes, cookies,
etc. If you can help, please contact
Karen Waldo. Those items that do
not sell at the dinner will also be used for the Cake Wheel on
Sunday. So we need lots of baked goods!
By now you should have received your raffle tickets. If you
haven’t, please contact the rectory or Joe Stanko to get your
tickets. The raffle is one of our biggest money makers for the
Festival so we ask if you can’t purchase the tickets yourself,
please do your best to sell them to others you may know. You
do not have to be present to win.
This year we have decided to have a Craft
Bazaar instead of a Flea Market. So if you
are a crafty person or know someone who
is, this is a chance for you to sell your
wares. If you are interested, please
contact PJ Hitz for more information.
For more information, please contact Keith
Adams (Festival Chair) at 740-387-7931 or
call Dolores at the Parish Office at 740-382-2118 or email
[email protected]. You may also contact any of our
Committee Members:

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast Day – July 16
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Protectress of Humanity
Help us. O Most Beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine,
splendor of heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate
Virgin, assist me in my necessity, O, Star of the Sea, help me and show
me herein, you are my mother, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us
and those who turn to you.
Holy Spirit, You who solve all problems, light all roads so I can attain
my goal. You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil
against me, and who are with me in all instances in my life, thank
You for all things, as You confirm once again that I never want to be
separated from You in eternal glory.
Amen.
GET CLOSER TO THE ONE YOU LOVE
You can do that on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter

couples can get away from jobs, kids, chores, and phones – and
focus only on each other. The next two weekends are August

to register, contact Paul and Marilou Clouse at 614-834-6880 or visit our
website at www.wwmecolumbus.org.
Looking for a Mass Schedule While
Traveling?
If you have travel or vacation plans, it is still
important to attend Mass on Sunday. If you wish to
know the time and locations of Masses throughout the United States, you
can either call 1-858-207-6277 or log on to www.masstimes.org.
Knights of Columbus Fund Raiser: The Knights of Columbus

the food is gone. The cost is $10.00 a plate that consists of BBQ baby back
