Mission Statement
We the people of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Ocean City,
Maryland, want to respond to God’s love for us by doing His will, to
live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to love each other as Jesus
loved us. In this way, He can live, as Risen Lord, in our midst and attract all
people to the Father. As part of the Church, we want to be a “Home and School of
Communion” where, through the celebration and living out the Sacraments, and
various ministries, each member can live in unity as a child of God, building up the
Kingdom of God until Jesus will come again in glory.

2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Jesus told them, 'Fill the jars with water.' So they
filled them to the brim." And then look what
happened! The water became wine! And not only
that, but it became "the good wine." Jesus
transformed plain water into the very best wine
served at that wedding feast in Cana. And he can
do the same with our lives.
Sometimes, we come to Jesus with empty jars.
We feel we have nothing to offer, that our efforts
have failed and our energy has run dry. It may
seem impossible that anything good could come
out of our situation. Even our hope has often
disappeared in these moments. But today's
Gospel should restore our confidence; we don't
need to work the miracle. We just need to "do
whatever he tells" us.
In many cases, this will mean doing something
that doesn't make sense on the surface. The
servers were probably skeptical that filling their
jugs with water would have any benefit. But they
did it anyway. And they did it wholeheartedly,
filling them up "to the brim." In our moments of
emptiness, we too need to do what Jesus asks of
us, all the way, without reservation. We need to
continue to pray (even when we don't hear an
answer). We need to continue to participate in the
sacraments (even when they don't seem to help).
We need to continue to follow the
commandments (even when they strike us as
difficult or irrelevant). We need to continue to love
our neighbors (even when they don't love us
back). All of this is like pouring water into those
jars. We simply need to do what Jesus asks of us
and then allow him to do the rest. Only when we
are willing to follow his directions can he
transform our emptiness into an overabundance
of joy.

Social Concerns Day of Prayer for the Unborn is being
held on Friday, Jan 22nd. Please see bulletin for additional information.
There will be no adoration on January 22nd as we will
have the Mass for the Unborn on that day at 8:30am.
Parish Office will be closed on Monday, January 18th for
the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
As we begin a New Year, we must also do our taxes for
the previous one. If you would like to receive a tax statement or your donations, please contact the parish office
and Donna will get one out to you.
Your Kitchen Crew is having their Annual Sour Beef and
Dumplings Dinner on Saturday, January 30th. Please
refer to the bulletin for additional information.
SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
Saturday, January 30th, we will have
our Annual Sour Beef & Dumpling
Dinner from 4 to 8pm. We will also
have a Roast Beef Platter available if
your date for the evening does not like Sour Beef! Cost
will be $14.00 per person and you are welcome to bring
your favorite adult beverage to accompany your meal!
We will also have carry out available for this dinner.
Social Concerns/Right to Life Committee will
be holding their 3rd Annual Day of Prayer
for the Unborn on January 22nd for those
that are unable to participate in the March
for Life. Our day will begin with Mass at
8:30am at Holy Savior Church and will continue with a
Continental Breakfast in our Parish Hall followed by a
presentation by Deacon John Lemon. Please call the

Each year from January 18-25,
many Christian denominations
will celebrate a Week of Prayer
for Christian Unity. This week
used to be called Christian Unity
Octave. The word "octave," meaning eight days, denotes
a Christian week. Since the early part of the last century,
the week has been taken up by many Christians the
world over. It is a week in which we all pray for unity of
not only our faith and works, but furthermore a week to
pray that we all may be one in our solidarity. This year's
theme will be "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the
Lord" (cf. 1 Pt 2:9). According to Graymoor Ecumenical
& Interreligious Institute (GEII). . . , "The theme finds its
origins in the First Letter of Peter. The relationship
between baptism and proclamation, and the calling
shared by all the baptized to proclaim the mighty acts of
the Lord was inspired by two verses from the First Letter

This year Ash Wednesday is on
February 10th. We will have Masses
at 8:30am & 6:30pm at Holy Savior.
The St. Mary Star of the Sea SODALITY OF
MARY, will host a “Marian Tea Party” on Sunday. February 7, 2016 in the Parish Hall following the 10am Mass. We will serve assorted teas, sandwiches and a variety of
sweets. ALL are welcome to attend and
bring a friend!
The Sodality of Mary is a community, who, with the
Blessed Mother as our model, pray and work together in
service to Jesus Christ in every area of life, family, work
and all civic activities. The purpose of the Sodality is to
grow in faith and love of God and to transmit this to others.
St. Paul reminds us that there are different
kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit.
All the baptized share in that same Spirit,
and, from among them, God calls some to
serve as priests, deacons and religious. If

Sharing the Gospel
Mary had great faith in God. She also knew that God could
do anything. So when the wedding servers ran out of wine,
she knew Jesus could help. She said, "Do whatever Jesus
tells you to do." That's the smartest thing any of us can do.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to do everything you say. I know you
can do anything.
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of the wedding servants listening carefully to
Jesus.

a wonderful way to reflect on what the Gospel is telling
you!

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Hi All,
Hope everyone is staying warm!
Today I wanted to share some thoughts on
one of our parish organizations that is near and dear to my
heart!! The group would be our teen group!! Are you aware
that we have an active teen group that runs in conjunction
with our senior religious education program? Within class
and group activities our teens are learning to incorporate
their Catholic faith and identity into their daily lives! We call
our teen group the T.O.P. group! This stands for taking
our place. Through learning, study, and doing they will
understand what it means to be fully Catholic and will be
guided by the spirit and take their experience out to the
world to truly share the Good News! We are always so
grateful that so many parishioners support our many annual
events. The donations and support of events like the
Bonfire, Fall Fun Fair, The Carnival at the Bazaar, the
cookie bake to name a few is such an encouragement This
group works on events that focus on Spiritual, social and
service activities for our whole parish. This is a student run
organization run by a board of teens that meet monthly
(Second Sunday of every month @ 4:30 PM) we gather for
dinner and a meeting! This year the group consists of
Makayla Zajdel – President, Paul Haddad Senior Vice
President (Representing grades 9 and 10), Jacob
Fuchsluger Junior Vice President (Representing grades 7
and 8), Jake Gillespie and Miah Schwind sharing the
responsibility of Recording Secretary, Ben Kolarik
Technology Adviser, And Members at Large Zachary
Fuchsluger, Billy King, and James Mathias! The plan
debate and organize all events. The board is open to all
student from grade 7 to 12 and we are always welcoming
new members! So if you or someone you know is
interested in getting involved either call me, contact one of
the board members or just come to the next meeting,

MBS will join with Catholic Schools across the nation in
celebrating Catholic Schools Week from January 31st February 5th. The theme for this year's celebration is
"CATHOLIC SCHOOLS: Communities of Faith,
Knowledge and Service." Our Catholic Schools Week
Planning Team has scheduled activities and events that
highlight our school's commitment to being a community
of faith, knowledge and service. Included in the
scheduled events is time for parents to visit classrooms
on Tuesday, February 2nd. Parents and guests are
welcome and encouraged to join us for as many of the
events as their schedules allow.
On Sunday, January 31st from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Most
Blessed Sacrament Catholic School will host its annual
open house for new families to explore the possibilities
and potential that our school holds for their children. All
attendees will tour our beautiful state-of-the-art facility
and speak with a school representative about curriculum,
faith development, extra-curricular activities, and our
outstanding efforts at integration of technology into
instruction. Please call the school in advance to make a
reservation or just attend on that date. Questions may
be directed to our Director of Admissions, Mrs. Lisa
Edmunds, at 410-208-1600. Opening for the 20162017 school year will very limited, so don’t delay.

Your regional catholic school, Most Blessed Sacrament
will be hosting their annual Casino Night Fundraiser,
Denim & Diamonds, on Saturday, February 20th from
6pm until midnight. This is a wonderful opportunity to
support the only catholic school in our area and also a
great opportunity for prospective families to see this
special school for themselves. There will be live music,
auctions, gaming tables and food from the best
restaurants on the shore. Tickets are $45.00 in advance
