Blue metal used for laying roads has been lying for several
days on the road margin of 11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, near
MIG Flats. According to nearby residents, it is causing severe
dust pollution every time a vehicle passes.
“We are not even able to open our windows”, they said.
“It is affecting the health of the residents, especially those
suffering from breathing problems”, they added.

Road relaid without milling
Sir, Corporation is
relaying
Rameswaram Road, T. Nagar
with concrete with the
result the level of the
road has increased
more than a foot. This
is because the norm of
milling the surface before relaying commenced has been ignored. The floor level
of several buildings on
the road is now lower
than road level. Even a
drizzle is likely to cause water to flow into these buildings.
We immediately contacted the Mayor who gave us an appalling reply that a PIL will be filed against the contractor. Why
should the civic body file a PIL when it can directly take
action against the contractor? If the civic body fails to do so,
the Association will surely file a PIL and seek justice.
The Corporation, it seems, has not learnt any lessons from
the recent flooding. With Corporation resorting to re-laying
without milling, and the dysfunctional storm water drains,
and with no accountability whatsoever cast upon the contractors, the residents are forced to put up with inundation

Motorists find it difficult to drive through the road.
There are three schools nearby and the students are the
worst sufferers. I appeal to the Corporation officials to repair

Most e-toilets ill maintained
Sir, The e-toilets installed by Chennai Corporation are not
maintained properly.
The local body is allocating considerable funds for such
amenities but the staff are not fulfilling the needs of the
public. In our neighborhood, 10 such toilets including the
ones in Burkit Road (near T. Nagar Bus Stand), Ramasamy
Street, South West Boag Road (near CIT Nagar) are not in
use. If the Corporation is not able to maintain the toilets, why

Fake ‘priests’ harass residents for money
Sir, A group of persons dressed like Hindu priests are
asking residents for money in the name of rituals.
Recently, Mambalam Times had published an obituary. By
using that clipping, a group of ‘priests’ knocked on the door of
the deceased and solicited money for chanting some slokas to
‘cleanse’ the home. When the family members refused, the

Sparks from transformer close to balcony
Sir, A TNEB transformer has been installed at the rear side
of my apartment. The transformer is hardly 5 to 6 feet from
the balcony of my flat and I can often see the transformer
throwing up sparks. The past few days have been the worst
and we are unable to be at peace not knowing when the
transformer will burst.
All my appeals to the TNEB officials have only fallen on
deaf ears. This is posing a serious threat and needs immediate attention by EB. Will the authorities concerned do the

More benches needed in 1st Avenue Park
Sir, 1st Avenue Park, Ashok Nagar is well maintained. The
scent of the herbs wafts through your nostrils while you take
a walk. The gardeners in charge of the park are doing a
wonderful job. The tower clock is fitted with a music player
that continuously plays soothing instrumental music and at
the strike of every hour, an extract from Tirukural is recited
and its meaning explained from a pre-recorded medium.
The only grouse is the limited number of seats provided.
I appeal to the Corporation officials to install more benches

Presented ‘Best Villain’ award

was presented ‘Best Villain’
award for his ‘outstanding’
performance in a negative role
in the mega serial ‘Azhagi’ by
its producers Vikatan Tele
Vista in a function held in
Chennai last week.
The serial, which started on
Oct. 10, 2011, concluded on
March 4, 2016 after
completing 1,101 episodes.
The award was presented
by Radha (Managing Director,
yanjali’, ‘Alaipayuthey’, ‘Rekha IPS’and ‘Surya’.
Vikatan Tele Vista).
He is currently acting as an IG in the serial ‘Thamarai’.
Sridhar began his acting
career as a child artiste in Balu
Mahendra’s film ‘Azhiyatha
Kolangal’ in 1980.
He has acted in a number of
other popular Tamil serials
including ‘Sahana’, ‘Kavi-

Thick steel bolts protruding vertically a foot from the surface
of the road at the junction of Usman Road and Prakasam Road,
