ROANOKE VALLEY REGION AACA - CELEBRATING 59 YEARS - PAGE 2
THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Greetings Friends, My message will be short and sweet
this month. We had a great time at Festival in the Park
filling our allotted space with beautiful cars and dear
friends on a glorious day. Next year we will need a larger
space for more cars as I can see this show finally growing
and improving in quality. Thanks to the Mopar Club for
their help passing out flyers at the Advance Cruise In. It's
gratifying when two clubs work together rather than trying
to cut each other's throats. For everyone involved it's a
win/win situation. Everyone's now looking forward to the
Star City Motor Madness weekend later this month. See
you all at the June dinner meeting at Bellacino's in Daleville.

FESTIVAL IN THE PARK RECAP
By Jim Huizenga
Our AACA Roanoke Region car show was held in downtown Roanoke on Saturday May 24, 2014 under clear
skies with temperatures in the 70s.
Over 60 cars were present, filling Franklin Road and spilling into Jefferson Street. Cars of all ages were represented, from Tim Woodward’s immaculate 1912 Ford and Jim
Fulghum’s 1923 REO to Dennis Giles’ brand new Mercedes-Benz SLK coupe. The largest category, making up
about half the field, was post-war cars from the 40s, 50s,
and 60s. Notable were two beautiful T’birds (a ’56 and a
’57) parked side by side, giving everyone an easy-on-theeyes view. There were also a couple of nice examples of
pickup trucks from General Motors Truck division, as well
as a few Cadillacs mixed in among the muscle cars and
pony cars.
Smaller groups (10 cars or fewer) included chopped hot
rods, newer cars from the ‘70s and ‘80s, and pre-war cars.
Among the pre-war cars (besides those mentioned above)
was Granger McFarlane’s right-hand drive 1938 MG-TA.
The modern cars included the SLK, a 2012 Audi S4, and a
Smart.
The crowds were steady all day long, beginning before
10:00 with runners who had finished their 5K and 10K
runs right on through late afternoon by the time that many
of the cars had left.
At the conclusion of the show, prizes were awarded to the
top ten cars plus Best in Show in both the modified and
antique classes.
See photos at right and award winners on page 4.
