OPERATIONAL BRIEFING
TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS | AUGUST 13
The Rio Operation Center newsletter would like to inform today’s main interventions in
the city’s streets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Highlights of the day that are
detailed in this document include:
- Race walk, in Recreio: the competitions will take place at Estrada do Pontal and
Avenida Lúcio Costa, in Recreio.
- Athletics in the Olympic Stadium: the surroundings of the Olympic Stadium
(Engenhão) will be closed for competitions. Road closures start at 6:30 am.
- Sailing in Marina da Glória: for the sailing competitions, a lane heading Downtown in
Aterro do Flamengo will be closed opposite to Marina da Glória, from August 8 to 18.
-Volleyball at Maracanãzinho: routes around the Maracanãzinho have daily closures
until August 21, from 6:00 am to 1:00 am.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS
Tomorrow, August 14, there will be road closures in the neighborhoods of Botafogo,
Flamengo, Catete, Glória, Centro, Saúde e Cidade Nova para prova de Maratona de
Rua.
TODAY’S ROAD CLOSURES
COPACABANA REGION
Triathlon
For the structure used in the triathlon competition, Av. Atlântica is closed on the
stretch between Rua Francisco Otaviano and Rua Miguel Lemos, from August 12, 10:00
pm to August 21, 6:00 am.
Athletics – Olympic Stadium (Engenhão)
For the Athletics competitions at the Olympic Stadium (Engenhão), there are road
closures surrounding the Olympic venue. Closures take place in the following roads
(see map below):
From 6:30 am to 1:00 am
- Rua Afonso Ferreira, in its entirety;
- Rua Benício de Abreu, in its entirety;
- Rua Bento Gonçalves, on the stretch between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis;
- Rua Comendador João Carneiro de Almeida, between Rua Piauí and Rua Sales
Guimarães;
- Rua Coronel Cunha Leal, in its entirety;
- Rua das Oficinas, in its entirety;
- Rua Dona Eugênia, in its entirety;
- Rua Doutor Padilha, in its entirety;
- Rua Henrique Scheid, between Rua José dos reis and Rua das Oficinas;
- Rua General Clarindo, in its entirety;
- Rua Gentil Araújo, in its entirety;
- Rua Guineza, in its entirety;
- Rua José dos Reis, between Rua Henrique Scheid and Rua Arquias Cordeiro
- Rua Luís Silva, in its entirety

COPACABANA REGION
Sailing - Marina da Glória
For the sailing competitions, a lane heading Downtown in Aterro do Flamengo will be
closed opposite to Marina da Glória, from August 8 to 18. In addition, between August
8 and 16, flights and departures from Santos Dumont Airport are cancelled from 12:40
pm to 5:10 pm.
COPACABANA REGION
Beach Volleyball- Leme
For the beach volleyball matches, blockades include the beachside lane of Av. Atlântica
on the stretch between Av. Princesa Isabel and Forte do Leme. The road is closed
between August 6 and 13, 24 hours a day (see map below). From August 14 to 16 , the
blockade takes place from 1:00 pm to 2:00 am of the following day. On August 17 and
18, it goes from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am of the following day.
During the blockades, the Av. Atlântica lane close to the buildings will operate as a
reversible lane on the stretch between Praça Almirante Júlio de Noronha and Rua
Martin Afonso.
MARACANÃ REGION
Archery - Sambadrome
For the archery competitions in the Sambadrome, daily road closures in the city center
will occur until August 12. Closures take place in the following roads (see map below):
From 6:00 am to 9:00 pm:
Travessa 11 de Maio, in its entirety;
Rua Frei Caneca, on the stretch between Rua do Catumbi and Rua Paula Matos.
BARRA REGION
Structure set-up
For structure set-up, Avenida Lúcio Costa remains closed on the lanes headed to
Reserva, on the stretch between Av. Gilka Machado and Av. Albert Sabin, in Recreio.
The ban will continue until August 12.

*This service only operates on days of golf competitions. On competition days in
Pontal, this service will be extended to Gilka Machado station.

The VLT Carioca (LRT) is one of the best transport options to get to the Porto Maravilha
Olympic Boulevard, in the Port Region, during the Rio 2016 Games.

BARRA REGION
Olympic Park- closures around the sports complex
Due to the Rio 2016 Games, the surroundings of the Olympic Park and Riocentro*, in
Barra da Tijuca, are closed after 12:00 am. The following roads (see map balow) are
closed until August 21:
- Av. Salvador Allende, both ways, between Rua Célia Ribeiro da Silva Mendes and
Estrada dos Bandeirantes;
- Av. Embaixador Abelardo Bueno, from Shopping Metropolitano to Av. Salvador
Allende;
- Av. Olof Palm, from Estrada dos Bandeirantes to Av. Salvador Allende;
- Av. Abraão Jabour, both ways, between Av. Salvador Allende and Rua Olof Palme;
- Rua Aroazes, in its entirety;
- Rua Pedro Calmon, between Av. Abraão Jabour and Av. Salvador Allende;
- Via Inominada, between Estrada dos Bandeirantes and Av. Abraão Jabour;
- Stretch on Estrada Coronel Pedro Corrêa;
- Avenida Jaime Poggi;
- Rua Francisco de Paula;

DEODORO REGION
Deodoro Sports Complex – road closures in the surroundings
As of July 31, the surroundings of the Deodoro Sports Complex, the Shooting Center
and the Olympic Equestrian Center are closed every day from 7:00 am to 12:00 am.
Road closures will occur until August 20 on the following roads (see map below):
– Av. Duque de Caxias, between Rua Salustiano Silva and Rua São Sebastião;
– Av. São Pedro de Alcântara, between Rua Nazaré and Rua Melbourne;
– Rua Concórdia, between Rua Carinhanha and Rua Salustiano da Silva;
– Rua Corrêa Seara, between Rua Almeida e Souza and Rua Salustiano da Silva;
– Rua Dracena, between Rua Almeida e Souza and Rua Salustiano da Silva;
– Rua Engenheiro Trajano de Medeiros, between Rua Almeida e Souza and Rua
Salustiano da Silva;
– Rua Salustiano Silva, between Rua Correa Seara and Viaduto de Magalhães Bastos
(overpass);
– Viaduto de Magalhães Bastos (overpass), both ways in its entirety;
* From August 7 to August 15, daily road closures will occur from 6:00 am to 12:00 am.
MARACANÃ REGION
Reversal of lanes surrounding the Olympic Stadium
As of July 23, lanes are reversed in the area surrounding the Olympic Stadium
(Engenhão). This traffic scheme is expected to continue until September 18. The
following roads are reversed:
- Rua Bento Gonçalves, on the stretch between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis;
- Rua José dos Reis, between Av. Henrique Scheid and Rua das Oficinas;
- Rua General Clarindo; between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis;
- Rua Afonso Ferreira, in its entirety;
- Rua das Oficinas; between Rua José dos Reis and Rua Gentil de Araújo;
- Rua Henrique Scheid; between Rua José dos Reis and Rua das Oficinas;
- Rua Sales Guimarães, in its entirety
- Rua Coronel Cunha Leal, in its entirety;
- Rua Junqueira Freira, in its entirety;
Volleyball - Maracanãzinho
For the Volleyball games at Maracanãzinho, road closures take place in the Maracanã
region every day until August 21, from 6:00 am to 1:00 am of the following day. Road
closures take place in the following routes (see map below):
- Rua Prof. Eurico Rabelo;
- Rua Visconde de Itamarati;
- Rua Isidro de Figueiredo;
- Rua Artur Menezes;
- Rua Conselheiro Olegário.
