WELCOME TO YOUTH SUNDAY!
Thank-you for all the support you have ever given to us! Our experiences this summer and the whole year wouldn’t be possible without you. You shared God with us, and we hope that through this worship experience, we shared God with you! WELCOME TO YOUTH SUNDAY! Planned and led by the youth of FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, JEFFERSON CITY, MO August 14, 2016 FPC Youth Sunday August 14, 2016 GREETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Cole Ahrens and Josh Hickman PROCESSIONAL OF LEADERS WITH THE WORD & LIGHT “Only Love” *CALL TO WORSHIP IN MOTION *SINGING AS CHRIST’S BODY by Shaggy ft. Gene Noble & Pitbull Rachel Holt, Valerie Holt, Amy Naaman “You Are Holy (Prince of Peace)” By Marc Imboden & Tammi Rhoton OPENING PRAYER Liz Lehmen God of Life, prepare our hands for a new touch… A new and different touch… Prepare our lives for an authentic encounter… An experience of awakening… Many are the worn out gestures… Many are the movements frozen in time… Many are the useless excuses just to repeat attitudes… God of Life, give us daring to create new ways of being community… New links of understanding… Breaking away from old ways of relating… Encourage us to find true, meaningful ways to be your people… Draw us into your truth… Amen. SINGING AS CHRIST’S BODY “Come As You Are” By David Crowder PRAYER OF CONFESSION (From 2016 Presbyterian Youth Triennium) Valerie Holt God of Life, every second we exist is a gift. Gone in a whisper, it will not come again… So, God of us all, we come to you and ask that you help us unwrap this gift, And teach us to share it, and call us to cherish it – this precious life we’ve been given. And there are gifts we can offer each other: time, forgiveness, consideration… Things we cannot purchase, but which are priceless. And there are lessons we desperately need to learn – about love that does what it says, about advocacy that changes our behavior, about this life that we’ve been given that explodes in beauty when we understand how to give it up. When we withhold forgiveness, forgive us. When we withhold help or mercy or a kind word, forgive us. When we relax in our comfort zones even though it causes others pain, move us that we may GO where you lead. In the name of the One who goes before us – even to the ends of the earth. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (From 2016 Montreat Youth Conference) Albert Naaman Friends, hear and believe this good news. Each of us has been engrafted into Jesus’ family tree, a family much bigger, wider, and messier than we can imagine. In this family, there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more. And there is nothing you can do to make God love you any less. You belong in God’s family just as you are. All: Alleluia, Amen. *PASSING OF THE PEACE Aydan Henry CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Rachel Holt and Niles Nichols SINGING AS CHRIST’S BODY “Praise Arise” By Hannah Olson & Jeff Parshall PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Matt Nickolaus SCRIPTURE READING Luke 10:25-37 Leader: This is the word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God.
