share what they read over the summer and contribute reviews

2015 Summer Concert Series

Bring a blanket or chairs, a picnic if you like, and
come enjoy music under the stars.*
July 7 Java Jive
Our kick-off concert is with the popular and versatile trio - with a twist. They have
added an extremely talented female vocalist, Carolynne Brown, as Tom Madden
has retired from the group. With three keyboards, two trumpets, and exceptional
vocals, the trio performs current hits, classic rock, Motown, swing, R & B and
more. Sponsored by the North Easton Savings Bank.

Each time you check out materials at the library you’ll receive a
raffle ticket at the bottom of your receipt. Use them at the

Don’t miss Norton’s own up-and-coming pop/country artist! Just 23 years old, this
country singer, songwriter and performer has auditioned for “The Voice,” “Rising
Star,” and “America’s Got Talent”. This past year Timmy made it all the way
to Hollywood and was a contestant on Season 14 of “American Idol". Sponsored

This American roots songwriter will perform a concert of songs from his critically
acclaimed album RIDE –accompanied by his guitar wizard amigo, Rich DePaolo.
Marc Berger, American West singer, has performed all around the country,
including South by Southwest, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other
national acts. Sponsored by Roche Bros.
July 28 Four Guys in Tuxes
Join us for an all-request musical event! Four Guys in Tuxes is a vocal/
instrumental group that commands a huge repertoire of songs. Sponsored by
Norton Medical Center.
*Concerts are held whatever the weather. If the weather is not cooperative, the
concert will be inside the library community room.

Cardmaking Class - 1:00 July 7
Push the envelope--turn boring to brilliant! Local artist Betty Saccocia will
demonstrate how to create beautiful handmade cards. Participants will leave with
two completed cards and envelopes ready to send! Registration begins 6/30.
Karaoke with John Russo - 10:30 July 10
Warm up your vocal chords and join us at the library in one of the world's most
popular leisure activities. Bring out your inner Frank Sinatra or Peggy Lee with
music from the past (mainly 40's-70's) and come be a part of the fun!

An adventure travel journalist for The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The
Philadelphia Inquirer and Huffington Post, and the author of ten books, Peter
Mandel hunts his stories and photos in the world's far corners, including
Antarctica, India, Egypt, Patagonia, the fjords of Norway, the mountain pathways
of Japan, and the deserts of Africa. Program sponsored by a generous donor.
Altered Books Craft - 4:00 August 3
In this class, the library's own Kathy Trepanier will teach you how to turn a
discarded book into a work of art! Transform an old book into a personalized
keepsake picture frame with ribbon, lace, buttons, beads, and other decorative
elements. Signup is required and will begin three weeks before the event on
7/13. At the time of signup, you must provide the picture that you wish to
use for your project and select a book for your frame so that it may be
precut prior to the class.
Local veterans are invited to join us for "Breakfast with Heroes" as we show our
appreciation for their service! Advanced registration is required and can be obtained
by contacting Norton Veterans' Agent Estelle Flett at 285-0274.

Retired firefighter William Moss presents an entertaining and educational first
person narrative in A Fireman of 1899: His Life & Job! Journey back in time as he
introduces audiences to the challenges of 19th century firefighters, both in their
personal and professional lives. Learn about the typical day of work and the most
important firefighting tools of the time. Program and refreshments sponsored by the
Friends of the Norton Public Library.

Let's get wild with food! This year's Book Cooks is inspired by the memoir
Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Chef Anna Biron will help us "Escape the Ordinary" with a
hands-on cooking program; afterward we'll enjoy the fruits of our labor. This
program will be held at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home. Registration begins
7/21; limited to 25 participants. This program is supported by a grant from the
Norton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts
Cultural Council, a state agency, and Chef Anna Biron.
“The Bridgewater Triangle” 6:30 August 11
1934, 93 minutes, NR
The Bridgewater Triangle sits within the Southeastern portion of Massachusetts,
and includes a number of locations known for unexplained occurrences. The firstever feature-length documentary on the subject, The Bridgewater
Triangle explores the history of this fascinating region. The film features a number
of local residents providing first-hand accounts of unexplained occurrences. In
addition, an all-star assembly of paranormal researchers, folklorists and authors
provide expert analysis regarding the many mysteries of the triangle.

Rubano, President of the Bristol County Chapter of the MSOG.
Movie: The Thin Man - 10:30 July 23
Norton local & world traveler Dana Zaiser will take us along on an armchair
adventure to the Galapagos Islands. This talk will focus on his recent trip to explore
the unique wildlife of the Islands. The Galapagos were made famous during Charles
Darwin's voyage on the Beagle; his experiences there informed his theory of
evolution. Full color photographs will illustrate this lively talk.
Join us for a free Kripalu yoga course for beginners. No prior yoga experience is
needed. Students should wear loose fitting clothing and bring a yoga mat or beach
towel and bottled water. Additional yoga props will be provided, including yoga
straps, blankets, and blocks. Registration begins 7/27.
