Just when you thought your budget for this hobby wasn't going very far, we're here
with some great news. With a little ingenuity and some elbow grease, you can
create your own storage and organization solutions that will also help you make
the most out of the supplies you already have. And once you know what you have,
you'll love the dozens of ideas in this issue to use them in fun new ways.
Honestly, we have lots of fun compiling every special issue we bring to you.
But this one is truly a labor of love, with some creativity, innovation, and even upcycling thrown into the mix. Within these 164 pages you’ll find new and unique
ways to use everything from scraps and product packaging to household items
you'd never guess were "made" for paper crafting. Correction tape? You bet.

Collection of Cans
Make a big pot of chili and a few tuna
salad sandwiches, and you’ve got plenty of
leftover cans to make an easy-access tool
storage system. With a lazy Susan found
in any big box retailer and some sturdy
adhesive, your custom touches can include
favorite colors, ribbon, fabric, patterned
paper, and more.

Under-the-bed Box on Wheels
Not just for a child’s toys, this handy under-bed box on wheels
is the perfect combination of sturdy and efficient. It's a perfect
solution if you share your craft space with a guest bedroom...
your visitors will never know they are sleeping above your
treasured stash of paper crafting supplies. And with a few
smaller bins inserted for more containment, the organizational
possibilities are endless.
Ribbon on Paper Tube
Eliminate the wasted space of cardboard ribbon spools by
wrapping ribbon around paper towel cores or sections of wrapping
paper cores and securing ends with straight pins. Then use all the
extra space for more crafting goodies!
TIP: See p. 16 for another way to use paper towel cores for
ribbon storage.
Take-out Containers
Available at food supply and even big box craft stores, take-out
containers are an economical way to provide compartmentalized
storage for your crafting supplies. Trim the flaps off, flip the
handle up, and you’ve got a grab and go option for transporting
your supplies to your crafting table. When the container needs
replacing, you won’t be out more than the cost of a pack of gum to
install a new one.
Plastic Shoe Boxes
Designed to store out-of-season shoes, these plastic boxes make
segmenting your under-bed storage a cinch. Tuck a few in the
larger sections of your main box and you’ll keep your tools in
perfect order.
Night Stand Drawers
Don’t forget a nightstand with drawers for storing larger items,
especially in a guest bedroom where the drawers probably see
very little use by your visitors.

Just a Door
When all you have left for storage is a door, make the most of that
space to store and organize your paper crafting tools and supplies.
Wire Storage Rack
Designed for versatility, an inexpensive and
adjustable wire rack system for household cleaners
or canned goods is perfect for storing your crafty
goods. Make room for repurposed storage such as
clear tennis ball containers to store ribbon scraps,
sugar shakers to store twine, or cardboard takeout boxes and metal tins for markers and other
handheld tools. Expand your storage options by
tying a wooden dowel to the bottom of the shelf
for ribbon storage, and leaving some room on the
bottom rack to store 12" x 12" paper in a hinged
plastic bin.
TIP: A ribbon tied to the frame and around the
bin will keep it in place as the door swings open
and closed.

Shoe Hanger
With deep pockets perfect for storing bulky
punches and larger tools, this transparent storage
solution is a great way to keep your tools and
supplies in full view. You can insert plastic cups
in the pockets to provide structure and prevent tips
of sharper items from cutting the vinyl, and use the
top row of compartments for taller items.

A Well-dressed Closet
Even though it doesn’t showcase clothing, a craft closet is no less
fashionable. Fill it full of your favorite crafting tools and supplies,
and a closet can house your paper crafting wardrobe. Tucked
away and hidden from public view, you can organize and store
everything you need to get crafty at a moment’s notice!
Shoe Organizer
A shoe organizer is surprisingly spacious and makes great use of
closet floor space. The one shown here has a nice firm surface on
top for a sturdy wire cube to store your 12" x 12" paper. Plastic
shoe bins with lids fit perfectly into the shoe slots and are large
enough to store stamps and punches as well as jars of buttons
and brads.
Over-the-Door
Rain Gutter Storage
At $7.00 for a 10-foot length, vinyl rain gutter is an economical
and functional storage option for punches, paper, trimmers and
other bulky tools and supplies. Cut gutter into desired lengths and,
using a heavy duty hole punch, make holes around the ends of
each gutter section. Finish off the ends by lacing ribbon through the
holes and tying into a bow. Attach the gutters to narrow strips of
wood using self-adhesive hook and loop tape, which provides a
flexible option for spacing the gutter sections on your wood frame.
Chalkboard Labels
To keep a handle on what’s in each shoe box, you’ll want to
add labels to each one. Here we cut small pieces of craft wood,
painted each in chalkboard paint, and applied self-adhesive hook
and loop tape to attach to the bins. It’s a cute and versatile way to
keep track of what parts of your stash are in which box.
Hidden Hook for Hanging
What do you do when your door won’t close with an over-the-door
hook installed? All you need is a self-adhesive hook on the opposite
side of the door and some ribbon. Simply attach the hook to your
door upside down, loop the ribbon through your hanging item and
then over the hook, and finish by tying a cute bow. The hook is
easy to remove when needed.

Rolling Wardrobe
If your supply storage is in one room and your table space is in
another, this is the solution for you! Fill a rolling wardrobe with
hanging organizers designed for clothing and accessories and
it becomes a portable craft room perfect for a small space. It’s
easy to stow in a guest room or corner of the family room when
you’re done crafting, and there’s plenty of space in the outer
pockets to tuck away projects still in progress.
Hanging Shoe Organizer
With deep compartments and stable by design, a hanging shoe
organizer is a convenient way to store bulky punches. Each
compartment will hold 2-3 punches, and you can even arrange
them by size, type, or theme.
Hanging Pocket Organizer
Made for folded shirts or lingerie, a two-sided hanging pocket
organizer can house everything from punches to paper scraps.
Markers are yet another option, as are packaged embellishments,
rub-ons, and alphabets.
End Pockets
Ideal for larger items like full-sized scoring boards, cutting mats,
and paper trimmers, don’t overlook the pockets on the outside of
a rolling closet. These are also handy places to safe-keep your
projects still being completed.
TIP: Try rolling your ribbon on paper towel cores and securing the
loose ends with straight pins. In the case of this rolling wardrobe, we
were able to weave these ribbon rolls on light rope and secure them
to the sturdy hanging bar on the outside.

Create-a-Closet
The name of the game here is to identify storage options with
potential for flexibility. In this one, we repurposed organizers
typically used for clothing storage and customized them for
crafting organization. Plus, if you don’t like having this storage
rack in plain view, try hooking a standard shower curtain around
the outside that can be opened and closed when needed.
Free-standing Closet
Keep all of your paper crafting tools and product in one central
locale with an inexpensive free-standing closet found at any big
box retailer. Easy to assemble, it provides several storage options,
including space for bins large enough for bulkier tools as well as
hanging organizers perfect for smaller items.
Clothespin Tags
The key to staying organized is flexibility. With a simple tag
attached using a clothespin, it’s the perfect way to add a finishing
touch in your favorite colors. You’ll find it easy and convenient to
re-label your bins as needed, too.
Tiered Hanger
Is your ribbon unraveling in a disorganized mess? Get it organized
using a tiered pants hanger and straight pins. With easy access to
your ribbon and an effortless on-and-off option, you may want to
get two or three!
Pocket Jewelry Organizer
This pocket jewelry organizer is a handy way to store ribbon
scraps, buttons, and more. Plus, the clear plastic allows you to see
your stash at a glance.
Over-the-Door Organizer
Why limit an over-the-door organizer to just the door? This roomy
storage solution works well on a closet rod, too. With a variety of
compartment sizes, you can store bulky punches, 12 x 12 paper,
and even jars of ribbon scraps.

Wall Shelf Organization
Repurposing is a key element of this storage option. If you look
closely, you’ll see two wine racks, a nail and screw organizer
chest, a swivel spice rack, a tote bin, and magazine holders—
none of which are designed specifically for paper crafting storage.
With a little creativity and a clever eye, some wall shelves can pull
these items together into a storage solution that’s practically perfect
in every way.
Hanging Magazine Holders
Ribbon Organizer Bin
These sturdy wood magazine holders are turned on
their side and mounted under a solid wood shelf. In this
configuration, they make great storage for pre-cut card
bases and letter-sized cardstock.
A few dowels helped transform a plain tote bin into custom ribbon
spool storage. By feeding each ribbon through the holes in the
side of the bin, you’ll have access to every color you need at a
moment’s notice.
TIP: Pull some ribbon out of the front and some out of the back if your
bin holds more spools.
Wine Rack
Swivel Spice Rack
A space-saving option you might have seen on TV, this spice rack
makes use of limited space while still providing easy access to
bottled inks, embossing powders, and embellishment jars.
TIP: Although this product is sold through television commercials, it is
available at most major retailers that carry kitchen accessories. Look
for coupons to make it an even more economical option!

Designed for mounting under a kitchen cabinet, we immediately
saw this wine rack as a versatile storage option for a multitude
of paper crafting supplies. Clear tennis ball containers are the
perfect length for the rack, and packaged embellishments on
binder rings slide nicely back and forth on the slides intended
for storing wine glasses.
TIP: A standing wine rack (also seen in photo) with plastic tumblers
inserted works equally well for marker organization.

Shelving Nook
If you can carve out a small corner of a room for a desk and a
wall-mounted shelving unit, you can create your very own craft
space. Add over-the-desk marker storage and clever organization
for small embellishments and you’ll be ready to get creative
whenever the mood strikes.
DIY Shelves
Believe it or not, this shelving unit started out as four pine 1" x
6" shelves, three medium-density fiberboard (MDF) 1" x 8"s for a
frame, and six wooden dowels. A drill, a few screws, a coat of
paint, and a few hours later you have some super shelves that are
custom-spaced to accommodate exactly what you need!
Pizza Pan
Magnetic Organizer
Are your buttons, brads, and other small embellishments jumbled
together in their original packaging? Here’s a hint: organize them
by color using small plastic containers found at dollar stores. Even
better, add magnet strips to the underside of each one and store
on metal pizza pans. If you have the space, you can also use hook
and loop tape on the back of the pans to hang them on your wall.
This entire project cost less than $8.00!
TIP: For heavier items you’ll need stronger magnets or hook
and loop tape.
Ribbon on Wood Dowels
These ribbon spool pegs can be added to any existing shelving
unit. To ensure you drill the same angle for each peg, drill some
scrap wood at the desired angle. Then use it as an angle template
by holding the pre-drilled scrap wood where you want the actual
hole and then drill through both the scrap and shelf. Insert the
dowel with wood glue to secure it.
3-Ring Die Cut Binder
with Magnet Sheets
Store your thin metal dies on magnet sheets that are slipped into
clear plastic page protectors in a 3-ring binder to keep them
organized and easy to access. This not only protects your dies, but
you can also easily flip through the pages to see what dies you
have on hand. For quick reference, slip the packaging information
into the facing page.
Hanging Packaged Supplies
Add a length of picture-hanging wire under any shelf to display
packaged alphabet stickers, stamps, embellishments, and more.
Simply clip a binder ring (as shown on p. 26) onto the wire for
easy storage. If it’s in your line of sight, you’ll be inspired to use it
more often.

PVC Pipe Storage
This is an inexpensive and fun way to store colorful markers,
scissors, and other hand-held tools. Cut 2” PVC pipe at a 45°
angle, spray paint with your favorite color, and attach to a
strip of wood using construction adhesive. You can mount to
a wall as shown here, or make straight cuts to the PVC pipe
in various lengths and mount to a lazy Susan turntable or plank
of wood for your desk (see p. 27 for a similar idea using
upcycled cans).

Magnet Wall Board
Limited space doesn’t mean limited function. A small corner of a
spare room (or even your bedroom or kitchen!) is a great solution
when you use the wall space efficiently. And, by keeping supplies
organized and within reach while still having plenty of desk space
to create, you’ll never again struggle to use what you have.
Magnetic Oil Pan Organizer
Clever and economical, there’s plenty of creative storage in this
wall-hanging craft supply organizer that you can create in an
afternoon. Found in the automotive section of big box retailers,
the 2' x 4' oil drain pan is lightweight and can be customized in
many ways. We added some upcycled soup cans with magnets
for easy on-and-off, a few cork squares wrapped in fabric, plastic
drawer organizer bins on adhesive hooks, ribbon spools on a
dowel suspended by light chain, and a cookie sheet embellishment
organizer (see below for detail).
TIP: Use 2-3 magnet disks on each soup can if you’ll be storing
heavier tools or several markers.
TIP: Use hook and loop tape versus permanent adhesive on the cork
squares so you can remove the squares and change the fabric as
your taste and décor changes.
Tiered Lazy Susan
For less than $10.00, this spinning organizer
can hold a variety of supplies. A lazy Susan
turntable mechanism (found at hardware and
home improvement stores), a pizza tray,
a burner cover, and a cake pan (from dollar
stores) plus a couple of recycled cans and a can
of spray paint are all you need!
Hanging Shower Caddy
Not just for keeping your shampoo and body wash organized, a
shower caddy is also a handy way to store containers and hanging
packaged embellishments. The shelves are sturdy, and the hooks on
the bottom are great for suspending binder rings (see pgs. 19, 21,
23, and 27 for more ways to hang binder rings).
TIP: If you want to hang this from the edge of a desk or table instead

of against the wall, simply use hot glue to attach a piece of foam
core craftboard to the back so supplies don’t slip off the backside of
the racks.
TIP: Epoxy or sturdy construction adhesive is your best bet for
adhering metal to metal.
Expandable File
A simple expandable file can help keep flat packaged
embellishments, rub-ons, and alphabets organized by color, theme,
or type. It’s also perfect to grab and go when you’re on your way
to a crafty get-together.
Cookie Sheet Storage
Another frugal way to create storage for small embellishments,
this cookie sheet and snap-lid bin project came together for about
$7.00 after a trip to the dollar store. Each little bin has a strip of
magnet adhered to the back for portability, and the cookie sheet
attaches to the larger magnet board with hook and loop tape so it
can be removed for easy access.
TIP: Be sure your cookie sheet is steel and not aluminum or the

which is what we did here. With a quick coat of paint to match

pallet is its price—free! Many companies stack them outside for recyclers
to pick up, and what better way to recycle than to use it for craft
storage? Choose one that’s perfectly weathered for a look that’s industrial
chic, or find the pallet that looks fresh off the line for a crisper effect. In
either case, a light sanding and a coat of stain or paint will make it all
your own. An added bonus: nail holes and wear just add to the charm
of a pallet, so as you modify your storage additions you don’t have to
worry about any damage when you shuffle them around.

Canning Jar Tool Organizer
Start collecting jars from spaghetti sauce, pickles, and condiments
because with a few hose clamps and a board you’ll have a
funky way to store markers, tools, and even twine. For added
convenience, just punch a hole in the lid of a canning jar, add the
sealing ring, and thread your twine through the hole for a convenient
dispenser.
Paper pads are a popular way to own an entire designer collection,
and sometimes it’s better to keep scraps right with the pad. Here
we attached a gallon-sized zipper close bag to the inside back

Ladder
Take that old wooden ladder sitting by the shed and give it new
life. A quick sanding, whitewash, and some brackets for the shelves
and you’re left with an amazing amount of storage with surprisingly
little expense. Stock it with a repurposed wooden fruit crate,
galvanized metal buckets, hanging ribbon dowel, and a variety of
bins and you’ll have storage for everything in your collection.
Suitcase
Don’t let grandma’s suitcase gather any more dust in your attic.
Peel away the old and shabby exterior covering and replace with
some fabric of your choice using fabric spray adhesive. Here we
used a great Parisian map fabric and then re-installed the original
navy blue wood grain print lining. Not only does it look great for
storage, but it’s also a practical portable solution if you want to
bring your crafting supplies with you to your next crafty get-together.
Bucket for Ink Blending Tools
Ink is messy by its nature and ink blending tools are, too. Rather
than fight the mess, roll with it by storing sponges inside the rim of a
galvanized metal bucket—ink smudges will add to its patina. Since
the sponges are backed with loop fabric already, simply adhere
hook tape to the bucket to attach them.
Build Your Own Light Tent
It’s been said that lighting makes or breaks the shot, and natural
light isn’t always available when you want to capture a photo of
your paper crafted masterpiece. All you need is a few items from
your local home improvement store and you’ll have everything you

• Apply the lightest color of ink to your
cardstock panel first and work up from there.
• The stylus tool makes applying ink evenly
very easy, however a cosmetic sponge will
work as well.
• Use inks from a stacking set. The colors
are already made to work together.

on the packaging as it has a glossy surface

and adhere. 6 Thread button with twine and adhere.
