events that changed our lives are the protagonists of a scenographic, innovative and multimedia
exhibition, which will surprise you and make you discover the most beautiful 18th century Palaces

Three exhibitions: at the former church of Battuti Bianchi the photographic exhibition “Una
storia per immagini: il C.A.I. di Asti” to celebrate 150 years of Club Alpino Italiano. In Parco
della Rimembranza the exhibition: “La collezione botanica del Conte di Saint Robert” to
discover the figure of the scientist and Count of Saint Robert. Inside the panoramic tower,

Held in the castle, the exhibition presents engravings and graphic design with a large

The photos and the documents coming from Archivio fotografico Ivaldi and some
citizens of Mombercelli tell us the story of the social and economical development of the
village after the Second World War. The exhibit offers also a chance to visit, in the same
building (ex Carcere Mandamentale) the Civic Museum of Modern and Contemporary

MONASTERO BORMIDA - ROCCAVERANO - From June 29th to October 27th
MOSTRA DI ESO PELUZZI
The exhibition in the castle of Monastero Bormida, recently refurbished, dedicated to Eso
Peluzzi, was inaugurated on June 28th. The painter, who was born in 1894 in Cairo
Montenotte, a place on the border between Liguria and Piedmont, belonged to the
divisionism art movement. In portraits the landscapes of these two "soul regions"
become his favorite subjects. His paintings are exhibited at GAM in Genoa, in Florence,
Turin and also in some European museums. In Monastero Bormida also works of other
artists such as Carra, Morando, Chessa and Berzoini and a large canvas of Peluzzi in
the church of Roccaverano can be seen. Opening hours: Sat-Sun 10am-8pm, Mo-Fri by

Every year this theatre, music and meetings festival, under the artistic direction of Lucian
Nattino, characterize the end of summer in Monferrato with interesting events in different
villages of Asti area. On September 13th, in Casorzo, Teatro degli Acerbi will presents
“Pinin e le Masche”(from Davide Lajolo tales), on September, 21h in Castagnole
Monferrato the show “Stella Rock” by Andrea Bosca, on September, 29th in Piea, Teatro
degli Acerbi will entertain people all day long playing “Baracun! Le formidabili ricette del
dottor Delprùs” followed at 4pm by Paolo Tomalino and Beppe Cresta recital. Free

Children are the protagonists of this original event dedicated to the “masche”, figures
between history and legend, part of the oral tradition passed down from generation to
generation during the winter nights .From 3pm painting contest at 5 pm a nice afternoon
snack in the square and at dinner at 8pm. At 10pm the start of a walk in the woods
around the village enlivened by a performance based on the history of the “masche”. At

COCCONATO

PALIO DEGLI ASINI
The Palio was originally a challenge among the districts of Cocconato and dates back to
the Medieval times when the Conti Radicati were the powerful lords of these lands.
According to original chronicles, the inhabitants, in order to extinguish a fire in the castle,
went down in the valley and took the water from the stream carrying it in barrels loaded on
donkeys. Therefore, the Conti Radicati organized a tournament the main event of which
was the donkey race and the price was the banner of the family. The Palio of Cocconato
is usually preceded early in the afternoon by a historical parade with 400 people. The race
takes place in the town centre and the donkeys are not ridden but spurred by grooms (6
people for each district).

The Goats Show is an exhibit of the typical goats of Roccaverano and continues an
ancient tradition of this fascinating village in Langa Astigiana. After the exhibit and the
prizing of the animals in the morning, the feast goes on all day long with food and wine
tasting, the lunch with typical local dishes. People can taste and buy the gastronomic
excellences of Langa, first of all Robiola DOP, make with goat milk, and visit the
monument of the village: the Renaissance parish church, the Romanesque church of San
Giovanni, the rests of the castle and the medieval towers .

The National exhibition of selected DOC and DOCG wines will take place at Palazzo
dell’Enofila, a fascinating 19th cent. industrial site, recently turned into exhibition centre. In
the venue the usual appointments will be held: Douja dell’Asti, Douja della Barbera e
dell’Alta Langa, “Piatti & Dolci d’Autore” by the big chefs of Asti, “Serate d’Assaggio”
(evenings with tasting sessions) organized by ONAV during which wines and typical
products from many Italian regions will meet in interesting and unique pairings, tastings by
the Piedmont Chambers of Commerce and local associations. Shows, music entertainment
and cultural events at Palazzo dell’Enofila will complete the program.

40° FESTIVAL DELLE SAGRE

The Festival delle Sagre is a unique event in Italy. In the big Piazza Campo del Palio a real
village is built (with small houses, a church, the Town Hall and even the Post Office) in
which from Saturday, 7 pm until Sunday late at night, 45 pro loco associations will present
their traditional dishes accompanied by the local wines and will show the great food and
wine tradition of this part of Monferrato. On Sunday morning the big parade in the old town
with more than 3000 people in traditional costumes, old tractors, animals and tools evokes
moments of a rural life, typical in our villages between the 19th and 20th century with an
extraordinary and lively representation that follows the seasons.

PALIO DI ASTI
September 15th
Like every year on the third Sunday of September, Asti celebrates its medieval splendor
with the Palio, the oldest in Italy (1275). The exciting bareback horse race in which 14 Rioni
and Borghi (districts) of the city and 7 towns of the province challenge themselves, will take
place in Piazza Alfieri from 3.30 pm. Before the race, at 2 pm, a parade with more than
1200 people in historical costumes starts from Piazza Cattedrale (Cathedral Square). In the
morning the blessing of the horses and jockeys on the Churchyards and the exhibition of
the A.S.T.A. flag throwers in Piazza San Secondo are not to be missed. But since from
Thursday evening, the town colored with flags is brought to life by the Palio degli
sbandieratori (flag throwers competition) in Piazza San Secondo and on Friday and
Saturday there will be the traditional market, the general trials and the ritual banquets in the
evening.
