There are several ways that you can hook up your digital box to your existing equipment – it just depends on what you have. The following diagrams demonstrate the order in which you should connect your equipment to your digital box. DVD/Video Game Console Setup Most home equipment setups will support the addition of a DVD player. Please note that due to copy protection technology on DVD players, you cannot connect them through a VCR. You will be able to play DVDs but not record their content. VCR Setup If you have a standard VCR and TV (equipment that you can connect via cable, instead of RCA or any other advanced cables), use this option. This setup allows you to record any channel on your VCR, but it does not allow you to view a different channel while recording. For additional ways to connect your VCR to your digital box to enable recording, visit RogersDiscover.com to view the How To video on Connecting your VCR. NOTES: • Inputs and outputs can vary based on equipment. Please retain the manufacturer’s documentation as it will have specific connection information for your home entertainment equipment. • More information on connecting your digital box to your existing equipment can be found in the Easy Installation Guide that accompanied your digital box or by visiting RogersDiscover.com/hookups 23 12/4/09 6:59:59 PM (TRIM) ROG_2648_PTV_BODY_GDE_EN.indd 23 QUICK TIPS: ONE-TOUCH FUNCTIONS Learn the one-touch functions. You can rewind up to one hour of live TV, depending on how long you have been tuned to the program you want to rewind. Each time you change channels, a new copy is stored in the built-in recorder. For example, if you’ve been watching the same channel for 15 minutes, you can rewind that 15 minutes of programming. For more information on connecting your VCR, go to page 23 or visit RogersDiscover.com/hookups What happens if my digital PVR box temporarily loses power? Read through the information on page 45 for details on using the Picture-In-Picture feature. Everything you have recorded prior to losing power will be saved. However, recordings you have scheduled while the digital PVR box is without power will not be recorded for the duration of the power loss. Scheduled recordings will resume once the power has been restored. What does the red light mean on the front of the Rogers digital PVR box? Why is my PVR not recording every episode of my favourite program? When the red light is on, a show is currently being recorded. It could be that your favourite program’s title changes slightly from week to week. Such things as (HD) or other variances in the title will make the PVR think it is a different show and will not record it. How do I use/activate the Picture-in-Picture feature? Does my digital PVR box need to be powered on to record programs? No. As long as your digital PVR box is plugged in, it will record programs you have scheduled to record, regardless of whether it is turned on or off. Can I copy PVR recordings to my VCR? Yes. Provided that you do not infringe copyright laws and you have correctly connected your VCR to your digital box. Once your VCR is set up correctly, you can play back the program through your digital PVR box and record the program on your VCR. g re To make sure your favourite program is set to record, go into your then n ) and see when it Scheduled Recordings list (press will be recorded next. HIGH DEFINITION TV ing What equipment do I need to view HD programs? You will need either a High Definition or High Definition-ready television. You will also need a Rogers High Definition digital box. How do I know if a program is available in HD? The majority of HD channels are located in the 500 series. How do I avoid burn-in with my HDTV? Burn-in can occur when a fixed image is displayed for a long period on your HD screen. For more information, see page 38. How do I use the stretch and zoom functions of the HDTV digital box? Press on the remote to toggle through the stretch options. Why do some of the programs on my High Definition TV look sharper than others? Even though your TV is high definition, you can still watch non-high definition programming. It could be that you are actually watching a standard definition show, which will make the picture seem less sharp than you’re used to with high definition. Please verify that you are watching a high definition channel, found in the 500’s series in your Program Guide. 71 ROG_2648_PTV_BODY_GDE_EN.indd 71 12/8/09 9:46:02 AM (TRIM) uy n PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDERS (PVRs) 72 ROG_2648_PTV_BODY_GDE_EN.indd 72 12/8/09 9:46:02 AM (TRIM) SUPPORT › Contact us Support Rogers offers you many support options and resources. 75 73 12/8/09 9:46:05 AM (TRIM) ROG_2648_PTV_BODY_GDE_EN.indd 73 If y If di Fo He R L T S Support V 74 ROG_2648_PTV_BODY_GDE_EN.indd 74 12/8/09 9:46:08 AM (TRIM) CONTACT US If you are encountering a problem, be sure to complete the standard troubleshooting steps on pages 63-67.
