Co-Ed Softball
By Ken Heath
t’s once again that time of the year when we want to get
outside and “PLAY BALL”, softball that is. We have
begun our yearly quest for the coveted “trophy” when we
play against South Jersey in a best of three series. Remember
you don’t have to be a “Pro” to be a member of our team, just
come out to play some co-ed softball and have a good time.
Everyone who wants to play will play. We welcome an
enthusiastic cheering section to encourage our team and to join
us for beer and hotdogs after the games. Keep an eye out in
our newsletters, on our web site and on facebook for further
updates.
We start at 6:15pm. Costs are $3 to play and $7 for the BBQ
which includes food and beer/wine on bar-b-que nights. It

your choice” can be purchased. Come on out for a great time!

Keystone 2011:
Powder and Sunshine
by Bob Suravage
It was with great anticipation that a hardy group of Fall
Liners returned to a late season favorite, Summit County,
Colorado. This time it was Keystone’s River Run Village,
built by the company that produced Whistler Village and
Mt. Tremblant in Canada. Summit County is renown for
great spring skiing, and did not disappoint us at all. But
before I get to that, a Fall Line trip wouldn’t be a Fall Line
trip without some sort of travel day story. First of all, our
plane was late to the gate. Then we were ump-teenth in
line to take-off. Once in Denver, our supermarket stop
found us with a dozen or so locals and no cashiers. Then
snow at the Eisenhower Tunnel
required our driver to put
chains on, then, of course, off. Once we
finally checked in and our luggage was
delivered, my head hit the pillow at
3am MST (5am EST).
Our first day on the slopes greeted
us with 13” of fresh
powder, the finishing
touches of a four-day
36” snowstorm. Skiing was
as good as it gets: a soft and
consistent surface with mild
temps, light snowfall and good visibility. Skis
were whisper-quiet as we floated through the powder, and
as the day progressed, the snow ended and the sun peaked
out, a perfect finish to an excellent day one.
Save The Date
Weekend Getaway
June 10, 11, 12
In Lancaster, PA
By John Steel
Our destination is The Circle M Ranch at Outdoor World in
Lancaster County, Millersville Pennsylvania.
If you enjoy the outdoors you can either camp with us or stay
at a nearby Inn and come to the campground to join us as you
wish. The Ranch has many amenities such as and indoor and
outdoor pool, an 18-hole chip and putt golf course, 18-hole
On Friday, many of us headed to Arapahoe Basin, home
to some of the highest lift served skiing in North America
and famous for an extended Spring season. Overcast skies
soon gave way to glorious sun, and quite an interesting
cast of characters and costumes on the slopes. A-Basin’s
upgraded lifts and expanded Montezuma Bowl were
welcome improvements, and the skiing was fabulous. The
notorious “beach” in the main parking lot was in full party
mode, and an eclectic band in the bar made for a festive
atmosphere.
Spring skiing often brings mild temps, and occasionally
summer-like temps, as Saturday proved. Denver hit 80,
and Main Street Breckenridge nearly 60 as a few of us
tried Breck for day three. The new gondolas and quadchairs at Breck certainly help more and more skiers make
access to the slopes, and the lift lines were proof of that.
We started off heading up to the very top of Peak 8, were
even with the clear blue skies, 40 mph gusts drove sandblasting snow from the slopes. The soft snow from two
days ago was gone, and the lower, less crowded trails were
wet and sticky.
Breckenridge is a fun town, but not necessarily the
better skiing in Summit County. On our final day of
skiing, most of us stayed at Keystone, and were treated to
another round of fresh snow. While the new snow at the
bottom of the front side was a bit heavy, the North Peak
and Outback had excellent quality snow, and plenty of it
– a terrific last day of skiing. All in all, a great trip, and a
great way for Fall Line to finish off another ski season.❖
covered miniature golf, a camp store with pool tables and game
room. Free hot showers, fire wood and other supplies are also
available for our use. There is also an adult lounge with TV
available to campers.
Each person is on their own for hiking, biking, kayaking,
fishing, or whatever your heart’s content for the weekend.
Currently proposed for Saturday is a famous John Steel
breakfast, a fun golf tournament on the 18-hole chip and putt
course, and an evening camp BBQ dinner.
Bill or John Steel will be collecting $20 deposits at our Mixer
Meetings.
For more information and to sign up for this getaway
weekend, please contact Bill Roehner by email at
[email protected] or by phone at 215-431-3205.❖

Spring Fling was a Royal Blast!
By Nona Luce
his year’s Spring Fling at Carlucci’s Waterfront was a huge
success. We had a great turnout, excellent food, the bottles of
wine were flowing and the dance floor was always crowded.
Thank you to everyone who made it a Royally special night.
What would a Royal Wedding theme be without gifts! This year
we bumped it up a notch and added gift baskets with items and gift
certificates donated by our local businesses and from our much loved
ski resorts. Congratulations also to everyone who won gift baskets.
Along with our special thanks, Fall Line Ski Club would like to
mention all who gave generous donations to this year’s Spring Fling.
Many of these businesses are local and we encourage our members,
friends and family to support these generous donors.

WINTER TRIPS
By: Patty Shearer
would first like to thank everyone who traveled with Fall Line
Ski Club this past ski season. I had an opportunity to ski and hang
out with our great members, especially some new faces.
I’m sure everyone has put away their skis and pulled out those golf
clubs, bikes, etc. to start enjoying their Spring and Summer!
Remember, that Fall Line is not just ski trips. We have a wonderful
schedule of non-ski events that are a great way to stay in touch with
fellow members throughout the year and meet new friends.
Ever wonder how our fabulous ski trips get coordinated? Hint …
it’s not magic. Fall Line’s Winter Trip Committee, the committee

We are trying to gather the names of all the basket winners
and are missing a few. If you won a basket and your name is

Thanks
that never rests, has been arranging the best ski trips to great
destinations for YOU, the members! We work very hard to provide
trips with pricing options, which is a ‘must’ in today’s economy.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to say a big THANK YOU
to all of our Trip Leaders from this past ski season. All of them did
a wonderful job in ensuring our trips ran smoothly.
Speaking of Trip Leaders, if you would like to get more involved
then take the extra step to be a Trip Leader or simply join the Winter
Trip Committee. I know you all have skills which the Club would
benefit from by joining our team. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that
you’ve made a personal contribution to an already great organization.
If you’re interested in getting involved just contact Patty Shearer,
Winter Trip Chair, at 856-778-4657 or [email protected].❖

Fall Line’s MS Bike team:
Get ready for the Challenge!
September 24 & 25, 2011
By Melanie Sawicki
I’m sure some of us are all looking back at the past ski season (like I
am) and saying to ourselves that if only I was in better shape I could
have handled that slope a little better or that I would not have had to
stop skiing at 2:00 because I was so exhausted. Staying in shape during
the summer is one way to get ready for the 2012 ski season which
STARTS in only eight months!! ;-) You are probably wondering what
you are going to do to stay in shape? Well, I might have a solution for
you... Biking! Join the Fall Line MS Bike team and we will work
together to get ready for the MS Bike ride (and don’t forget about getting
ready for that ski slope that took you out the previous season). The “MS
City to Shore” ride is a charity bike ride that takes place September 24
& 25. The MS organization is in its 31st year. Last year about seven
thousand riders joined the cause to fight Multiple Sclerosis. Named by
Bicycling Magazine as the “Best Cycling Getaway in NJ” a rider can
choose to ride one or two days totaling 25, 50, 75, 150, or 175 miles.
Prior to the main event, the Fall Line MS team will go on practice rides
together to train for the main MS Charity event.
Look for my next article and I will give you more reasons why joining
the Fall Line MS biking team will make you a better person. Are you
ready for the Challenge! Riding for this charity and your donation and
donations from others will help create a world free of MS. ❖
See you on the road!

Biking: Atco to Margate • June 4, 2011
By John Kennedy
Fall Line’s annual trek to Margate-by-the-sea takes place
Saturday, June 4. This is a leisurely 55-mile ride through the
Pinelands, past Atsion Lake, through Mays Landing and scenic
Lake Lenape, Egg Harbor Township, and across the Longport
Bridge to the shore. Along the way, we stop for breakfast at
the Red Barn Garden Center on Route 206, visit a favorite
watering hole in Mays Landing, and maybe stop for ice cream
in Somer’s Point before making the final run to Maynard’s
(9306 Amherst Ave.) in Margate. (Did I mention this was a
leisurely ride?) The average pace, when we’re pedaling, is 1416 mph. Expected arrival time at Maynard’s is about 2:30 PM.
This is a great way to start your training for the 65 mile
American Cancer Society ride in July or the 150 mile MS ride
in September.
We meet in the NJ Transit parking lot in Atco around 8AM
and try to start by 8:30. I’ll provide waivers to sign at the
meetings and maps (slightly more detailed this year). Entrance
to the lot is from the northbound lanes (towards Philly) on
Route 73, about a quarter mile north of the Route 30
interchange and about 150 yards south of Jackson Road. We
return to Atco via NJ Transit. Ride your bikes into Atlantic City
(about 5 additional miles) and hop on the train. You can bring
your bikes but they limit them to 2 per car. Cost is about $4. I
hope to have at least one support vehicle to trail our group in
case anyone needs a break from pedaling. If so, I’ll ask for
some donations for gas for the driver(s).
There is no formal signup for this but I’ll be at the meetings
in May and the first one in June to answer any questions. You
can contact me, John Kennedy, at 856-761-2863 or e-mail me
at [email protected] . ❖
