SITZMARK NEWSLETTER VOLUME 47 / ISSUE 8!
DECEMBER 2009!
FROM THE PREZ
Where did 2009 go?
It’s hard to believe it’s already December and Christmas is right
around the corner. Hopefully, you’re getting your shopping done
early, or maybe you already picked up a few gifts and stocking
stuffers at the very successful November auction. I got a birthday
gift from my wife Megan—a couple of rounds of golf at Brookfield Hills--that I intend
to use next spring. Can I really consider it a “gift” if I was the one who wrote out a
check to pay for all the items we bought that evening? A new set of clubs for
Christmas, and I’ll forget all about it. Deal? It’s a fitting “gift” since Brookfield Hills is
the first real course I played when I was a kid. I lost to my aunt by 1 stroke, but that
was the only time she ever beat me. I’ve been disappointed at my inconsistency lately,
so I recently took my first golf lesson on my birthday. I turned 49 and have been
playing since I was in sixth grade. I guess it’s never too late to get some instruction
from a pro to help overcome a lifetime of bad habits, if it’s something you really like
doing.
I gave up skiing a few years ago due to knee pain and stiffness, but even when I did
ski I wasn’t that good. I first learned to ski in my late teens at Les Moise on a
motorized ramp system using short skis. A visit to www.Lesmoiseinc.com shows that
while they still have equipment rentals, there’s no mention of lessons. I guess that is
something they leave to the ski hills and ski clubs like ours to provide. Our session one
lesson program starts up in January at Crystal Ridge, with a second session in
February. So if you’ve been feeling your skills need honing or you simply want to take
up the sport, contact Laura Kletti about beginner to advanced skiing or beginner
snowboard lessons. Be sure to head out to Crystal Ridge on Thursdays for Club Night
for discounted rentals and lift tickets.
I have to go now. The shopping days are disappearing fast, and I have to find the right
gift for Megan. It’ll be tough finding something she’ll like receiving, but I’ll enjoy
using. How about a shiny new TIVO DVR or Blu-Ray player! Ooh, not a wise move if I
want to see 2010! I guess it’s time to put on my thinking cap again.
See you at the December 4th holiday meeting. Be sure to remember your food donation
to get in at a huge discount. If I don’t see you there, have a great holiday and a happy
new year.
