Royal Doulton Bunnykins nurseryware was
launched in 1934, and for eight decades the antics
of the cheeky rabbit characters have brought cheer
and good humor to mealtimes. The first designs
were drawn by Barbara Vernon, daughter of Royal
Doulton’s general manager Cuthbert Bailey.
Barbara’s ideas came from a variety of sources,
from the bedtime stories her father used to tell
about the escapades of woodland animals, of
foxes and rabbits; from the daily domestic life
of her large family and from the exploits of her
young pupils in the school attached to the convent,
where she lived and worked as a nun. The witty
themes established by Barbara were continued
by subsequent Royal Doulton designers, and
especially by art director Walter Hayward who,
between the 1940’s and the 1980’s, also added
his unique style to the Bunnykins tradition.

Lladró is the name of a prestigious brand of porcelain
recognized around the world. It is the surname
of three brothers with a passion for porcelain. 60
years ago they built a small workshop and kiln in
the backyard of their parents’ house, where they
began to give form to their first creations.

Celebrating 50 years of Bond – James Bond
Michael Doulton September Signing Event Recap
September 20 - 22, 2013
From September 20th through the 22nd, collectors from around the United States flew into South Florida for the
James Bond inspired weekend with special guest, Royal Doulton Ambassador Michael Doulton. When guests
arrived at the gallery on Friday night for a champagne reception they were greeted by a 2013 Aston Martin DB9
sports car valued at $200,000 while a montage of 007 film clips from the movie franchise played on a TV in the
background. Christopher Evans, Royal Doulton historian and Seaway China’s guest writer, flew in from England to
entertain guests and assist them with their Royal Doulton selections. With the Seaway China staff decked out
in fashion that would rival James Bond himself, the evening continued well into the night as collectors and
guests continued to shop, socialize and enjoy delicious champagne and hors d’oevres.
Collectors returned to the gallery on Saturday and Sunday to meet with their favorite Seaway China curators
and shop for new pieces to add to their collections. All of us at Seaway China would like to thank all of the
collectors and special guests who attended the event. It truly was a golden affair with a license to thrill!
