For those same reasons Haldimand is also a great destination for motorcyclists. Pick up a copy of the Hiking and Cycling Map or the Cruise the Coast Map for the most scenic routes in Haldimand County. Birding Haldimand County is a popular destination for bird watching enthusiasts. The ecological significance of our Carolinian Life Zone attracts botanists, naturalists, and conservationists. The Carolinian habitats and ecosystems include forests, tallgrass prairies and savannas, wetlands, streams, shorelines and other aquatic habitats. Canada’s Carolinian zone has a greater number of both flora and fauna species than any other ecosystem in Canada and with close to 400 bird species being recorded, it represents over half of the species in all of Canada. This makes Haldimand County the perfect destination for your birding adventure. The most popular times to see the birds are in May (spring migration) and late August and September (fall migration). Photo courtesy of Goh Iromoto and Waterfornt Regeneration Trust. Camping Agricultural Food & Flavours We are home to two Provincial Parks (Rock Point & Selkirk), two Conservation Areas (Byng Island & Haldimand), and more than a dozen privately owned campgrounds, resorts and trailer parks. Whether you want to rent a trailer on-site, bring your own tent or trailer, or stay in the luxury of a hotel style bed in a prospectors tent, Haldimand County can accommodate your plans for an outdoor adventure. See page 38 for a full listing of campgrounds. Haldimand County has deep agricultural roots. Farms ranging from livestock production to traditional crops and produce can be found throughout the county. In any season, there is an abundance of opportunities to enjoy local, fresh and flavourful foods! With so much available, many restaurants within our borders have sought local producers to supply them with meats, cheeses, produce and spirits for their establishments. Businesses with a Harvests of Haldimand sign are ones that use locally grown or produced goods. Our Harvests of Haldimand Local Food Guide is a great directory for those wishing to explore our local food attractions, farm fresh producers, specialty stores, garden centres and more. Haldimand is also home to three seasonal Farmers’ Markets in Hagersville, Caledonia, and Dunnville. Come rain or shine, vendors set up their various fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, maple syrup, honey and specialty products for your culinary pleasure. Haldimand County Farmers’ Markets supply the freshest tastes and best quality that we have to offer—it’s the next best thing to harvesting yourself! 12 TourismHaldimand.ca13 Grand Attractions Water Adventures Lake Erie Discover Ontario’s South Coast and soak up the sun at the beach and enjoy warm water temperatures in Lake Erie.
