The Denville Recreation will be offering new and exciting tennis programs for
the 2015 Spring Season. The US Sports Institute will be offering programs for
children ages 3 to 14 years old as well as adult players.
USSI Tennis staff will follow curriculums and guidelines laid out by the USTA,
which includes the highly appraised “Quickstart Tennis Format”. At every level, participants will learn the basic fundamentals in stroke production, court movement and footwork skills, all set in a low pressured environment. Most importantly it’s all about fun,
with games, games and more games during each session! This Tennis Camp is suited
for players who are of beginner to intermediate level. All children who attend the tennis
camp will have a great time playing and learning the number one racket sport.
(Children need to provide racket.)
Tennis Squirts Program: For children ages 3 to 5 years old. Thursday afternoons
3:15pm to 4:00pm. Cost $130 per child.
First Play Tennis: for ages 5 to 8, Thursday afternoons 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Cost $150.
First Play Tennis: for ages 8 to 10, Thursday afternoons 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Cost $150.
Tennis Lessons: for ages 10 to 14, Thursday afternoon 6:00pm to 7:00pm.. Cost $150.

All Tennis Lessons will be given at the Gardner Field Tennis Courts, starting April 16,
2015 and end on June 4, 2015.

SENIOR SOCIAL
The Sunday Senior Socials will be held at the Church of the Saviour, 155 Morris Avenue,
in Denville, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. The social is sponsored by the Denville Recreation
Committee and is open to all seniors 55 and older and is free of charge. The social offers a
Sunday afternoon of fellowship, dancing, and refreshments. Seniors, come out to an enjoyable Sunday afternoon! You do not have to dance to attend this function. There is ample
parking and the facility is handicap accessible.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Registration for any Denville Recreation Program can be done daily in the Recreation Office located in the
Denville Municipal Building. You can request forms via e-mail at [email protected] and mail registration forms along with payment to the Recreation Department or you can drop forms off during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm.
Cash (exact change) and checks (made payable to: Township of Denville) will be accepted; sorry no credit
cards will be accepted. No refunds once tickets are purchased or supplies have been ordered. Sorry no
exceptions.
Trips and activities may be cancelled due to lack of participation. In the event this should occur, all fees will
be refunded.
All Denville Recreation sponsored activities are open to all Denville Residents and open to non-residents
one week after initial registration, with the exception of ALL Adult Sports Activities which are for Denville
Residents ONLY.

MCARP (MORRIS COUNTY ADAPTIVE RECREATIONAL PROGRAM)
Denville is proud to be a sponsoring municipality of the Morris County Adaptive Recreational Program
(McARP). McARP provides a year round calendar of the highest quality recreational and leisure time
activities for both children and adults with intellectual and related developmental disabilities.

FACILIT Y USE INFORMATION
Permits are required for reserved usage of all fields, picnic areas,
pavilions and parks. To obtain facility usage permits please contact the
Recreation Department at 973-625-8300 ext. 238. Please allow up to
4 weeks for the processing of all permits.
2014 requests will be accepted as of Jan. 5, 2015.
TENNIS COURT USAGE
Tennis Court Information: Badges are required for the use of all tennis
courts. Badges are $8.00 per player or a family of 4 is $20.00. Badges
are available at all registration dates or in the Recreation Office daily
from 8am to 4pm.

ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
The Denville Recreation Co-Ed Volleyball program is open to all Denville
Residents 18 and older. Participants will meet every Tuesday & Thursday
from 8pm to 9:30pm in the Riverview Gym. This is a fun non-competitive
program. Come out & enjoy the fun. Sign-ups are daily in the Recreation
Office. Fee is $10 per player. Proof of residence is required. This program
starts in October and ends on May 15, 2014.
LADIES SOFTBALL
Ladies Softball News: we have less than 5 months until softball season starts for us. It's
time to start recruiting new players to add to our waning roster. We've had teams for over
30 years of Denville's 102 years. Let's keep up the tradition, come out and play noncompetitive softball on Thursday nights, 6-8pm. No experience is necessary. Team shirts
are included with the $15 registration fee. All participants must be at least 18 years old
and out of high school. All players must register either in person on June 3rd, 6pm to
7:30pm in the Municipal Building or in the Recreation Office daily 8am to 4pm anytime
after April 1st. The season starts the end of June.
MEN’S RECREATION SOFTBALL
This is a fun recreational league open to all Denville residents who are 32 and older. All players must register in person in the Recreation Office daily 8am to 4pm anytime after April 1st
or on Wednesday night, June 3rd, 6pm to 7:30pm in the Municipal Building. Games are
played on Monday and Wednesday nights starting at 6:30pm. New players are welcome and
will be randomly assigned to existing teams. Registration fee $50 per player. The season
starts the end of June. Please note: all players who register after June 3rd will be charged a
late fee and the cost of registration will be $75 per player.
NO REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE FIRST GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED!

The Denville Meals on Wheels program is in need of volunteer drivers during the

Cook’s Pond Family Aquatic Facility
Cook’s Pond is a 12 acre pond located at 19 Entrance Way, in Denville. Cook’s Pond is a family oriented
swim facility. The staff is dedicated to maintaining a clean and safe facility for its members. Resident and
non-resident memberships are available for families, individuals and seniors. Membership applications are
available from the Recreation Office, on-line at www.denvillenj.org or at Cook’s Pond during the season.
“It is our goal to make Cook’s Pond your destination of choice.”
Denny’s Swim School will continue to provide swim lessons for children ages 5 and older this summer.
For more information on swim lesson please turn to page 6.
Grills and picnic tables are available for member use at any time. The picnic pavilion is also available for
small family picnics (50 people or less) for an additional fee. If you would like to book Cook’s Pond for a picnic
please contact Don in the Recreation Department at 973-625-8300 ext. 238. Reservations are taken on a first
come first serve basis. 2 weeks notice is required to book any picnic to insure lifeguard/staff availability.
Reservations are not available on opening or closing weekends as well as Holidays.
Also included in your season membership is fishing for all members listed on the application as well as
unlimited use of the paddle boats for you and your guests.
Cook’s Pond will open Memorial Day weekend, hours are 12 noon to 6pm. We will be open Saturday and
Sunday’s, May 30th, 31st, June 6th, 7th, 13th & 14th, opening at 11am and closing at 7pm. Full time hours
begin Monday June 15th through Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. Hours of operation are 11am till dusk,
weather permitting. Hours subject to change after August 15th due to lifeguard availability.
Please note that the beach closes 1 hour prior to posted closing time.
The water is tested every week in accordance with New Jersey State Regulations to assure you and your
family of clean and safe swimming conditions. Don’t spend another summer stuck in the house, come out and
join the fun at Cook’s Pond.

DENNY’S SWIM SCHOOL AT COOK’S POND
Denny’s Swim School will provide swim lessons to children 5 and older at Cook’s Pond.
Swim Lessons are divided into two groups. Group A meets on Monday & Wednesday,
Group B will meet on Tuesday & Thursday.
Lessons are approx. 40 minutes in length, and are held between the hours of 12pm & 6pm.
The cost for swim lessons are as follows:
Cook’s Pond Members: $40.00 per child. Non-members: $80.00 per child.
Early Bird Registration Fees: (June 3rd ONLY)

Information on New Program
Teen Camp
Teen Summer Plus Camp (7th, 8th & 9th Grade)
The Denville Recreation Department is now offering a new camp opportunity for students entering 7th,
8th & 9th grades in the fall. This camp will meet on site, and travel every day. Teen Camp will begin on
Monday, July 6th and end on Friday, July 29th. Regular Camp hours are 9am to 3pm, some trips may
leave earlier and some may return later. There will be no early drop off or late pick up. Each camp
session will end with a day at the Beach at Cook’s Pond.
Teen Camp is open to the first 20 campers who register.
OPEN HOUSE Q & A:
The Summer Plus Staff will hold an Open House Q & A on Thursday evening, March 26th at 7:30pm in
the Denville Municipal Building in the Council Chambers.
REGISTRATION:

Summer Plus
The Denville Recreation Department will once again offer the Summer Plus Program. Camp will begin
on Monday, June 29th and end on Friday, August 7th, there will be no camp on Friday, July 3rd.
This program is for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade. Camp hours are 9am to 3pm.
Early drop-off and aftercare will be available. Early drop-off starts at 8am and aftercare is available until
5:30pm. Early drop-off will not be available on the first day of camp (June 29th) and aftercare will not
available on the last day of camp (August 7th).
REGISTRATION:
Open Registration will begin on March 7th at 9am in the Denville Recreation Office.
Early Bird Tuition: March 16th - April 17th: $150 per week (1, 3, 4, 5, 6) $100 per week (2)
Tuition: April 18th - May 31st: $175 per week (1, 3, 4, 5, 6) $115 per week (2)
After June 1st: $195 per week (1, 3, 4, 5, 6) $135 per week (2)
The Early drop-off option will be $5.00 per day, per child.

The Denville Recreation Department will once again offer the Summer Mini Plus Program. Camp will
begin on Monday, June 29th and end on Friday, July 31st, there will be no camp on Friday, July 3rd.
This 5 week program is for children ages 3, 4 and 5 years old. Hours for Mini Plus are 9am to 11:30am.
Tuition will be $70 per camper for sessions A, C, D, and E, session B will be $60 per camper.

Denville Recreation is holding it’s 6th annual Kid’s Triathlon at Cook’s Pond on August 8th. This
event is a non-competitive activity. Our goal is to have children participate in the event and enjoy
these outdoor activities. Registration is $15 per child. All participants MUST pre-register, only the
first 30 participants in each age group will be accepted. NO REGISTRATIONS will be taken the day
of the event, NO EXCEPTIONS! Registration cut off date is August 1st. This event fills up quickly so
don’t wait. Registration can be done at the Denville Recreation Office in the Municipal Building
daily, or on line via www.bikereg.com beginning May 1, 2015.

COACHES CORNER
This page is dedicated to give Coaches from the Denville Youth Sports Groups information
on what is required by the Denville Recreation Department to work with youth athletes in
the Township of Denville. You will also find dates for upcoming classes and clinics that the
Recreation Department sponsors. The Recreation Department recommends that all
Coaches take a basic First Aid Class as well as a CPR/AED class. Each of the Individual
Youth Sports Groups may require additional Coaching Certifications, please check with
league administrators for more information on their requirements.
RUTGERS SAFETY CLINIC

THE STATE UNIVERSITYOF NEW JERSEY
The Denville Recreation Department requires that all Denville Youth Sports Coaches
complete the Rutgers Coaches Safety Clinic. The Denville Recreation Department will be
hosting the Rutgers Coaches Safety Clinic on Wednesday, March 18th, Wednesday,
April 15th, Wednesday, July 29th, and Wednesday, September 23rd. Registration starts at
6pm, the class begins promptly at 6:30pm. The Class is 3 hours long. Pre-registration is required. Please e-mail the Recreation Department at [email protected] please include
your name, address, phone number and sports you will be coaching.
Please, NO phone calls. Class will be held in the Denville Municipal Building, 1st floor
in the Community Room. Cost of the class is $35 for Denville Residents and
$40 for non-residents. Class is limited to the first 40 who pre-register.
ONLINE CONCUSSION TRAINING
The Denville Recreation Department requires that all Denville Youth Sports Coaches
complete the free online Concussion Training Course “HEADS UP, CONCUSSION IN
YOUTH SPORTS”. This online course takes approx. 30 minutes to complete. After you
complete the course you must print out your certification, you are required to provide
copies to each of the Youth Sports Organizations that you coach with, the Denville
Recreation Department and one for your files for future use.

BACKGROUND CHECKS
The Township of Denville requires all Volunteer Sports Coaches and Officials to submit to a finger print
background check once every 3 years. Coaches are required to use a MorphoTrust USA facility. The closest
MorphoTrust USA facility is located at 601 Jefferson Road in Parsippany. Instructions and paperwork can by

DENVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE PARADE
The Denville Little League Annual Parade will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 10am. Line up will be
on Second Avenue. Parade route will be Broadway to Gardner Field.
OPENING DAY CEREMONIES
The Annual Opening Day Ceremonies will be held at Gardner Field on Field 1 following the parade.
ROTARY STREET FESTIVAL
The Denville Rotary Street Festival will be held on Sunday, June 7th
from 12 noon to 6pm, on Broadway in downtown Denville. Rides,
games, food and entertainment will be available.
JUNIOR POLICY ACADEMY
Each summer, the Denville Policy Department conducts a Junior Police Academy for residents between the ages of eleven and fourteen (grades 5-8). The recruits spend one week with members of
the police department and other participating agencies in a policy academy environment.
This summer the Junior Policy Academy will be held the week of July 13th. Look for application in
Valleyview Schools Friday e-folder in the coming weeks. Registration will begin in mid May.
Application can be dropped off in the Denville Police Department.

The Denville Fire Department is looking for volunteers,
no experience is necessary and training will be provided.

Come and swim with the Dolphins, Denville’s own swim team.
The Dolphins are looking for new and experienced swimmers
ages 6 to 18 years old who can swim 25 meters. The Dolphins
swim in the North Jersey Regional Lake League. Practices are
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Swimmers 10 and younger practice from 1 to 2pm and ages 11
and older practice 2-3pm. Meets are Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. The season tentatively starts
June 22nd and ends the first week in August.
Swim Team Fees: $50 per swimmer, $75 for 2 swimmers, with a max of $90 per family.
Registration forms will be available from the Denville Recreation Office beginning May 2nd.

SPRING 2015 TENNIS LESSONS
Professional Tennis Instruction is given at the Gardner Field Tennis Courts.
Instruction for all levels of play: beginners, intermediates & advanced.
Classes run from Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, June 17th. Session days and starting times are
determined by registration and availability.
After School Tennis Clinics for Children: 5 Week Clinic
Age 5-6: 3:30-4:15pm $15 per class
$70 5 weeks, May 18th-June 17th
Age 7-9: 3:30-4:30pm $20 per class
$110 5 weeks, May 18th-June 17th
Age 10-12: 3:30-4:30pm $20 per week
$110 5 weeks, May 18th-June 17th
Age Categories may overlap due to ability and/or experience. Rain outs are made up at end of sessions.
Summer Clinics for Children: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday mornings, starting Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

Ladies Learn and Play Tennis Classes: Tuesday & Thursdays, 10-11:30am, $30 per class. May 19th.
Private Lessons: $75 per hour, $40 per half hour, Semi Private 2 students: $40 per hour per student.
