Fellow Cedar-Lakers, Denville needs you, so PLEASE READ THIS….. I have volunteered to assist Denville Social Services during their upcoming annual holiday food drive. Specifically, I volunteered to organize a paper-goods drive with our Cedar Lake community. Every year the citizens of Denville do a great job of donating food for the 85+ needy families in Denville (yes, there are many needy families in Denville). However, ordinary paper goods are often overlooked. This includes items such as napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, holiday table-cloths, etc. So, here is a very easy way for you to help out..... Simply pick up an extra paper-goods item the next time you go shopping. Then just tie it up in a plastic bag drop it off any time day or night at the top of my stairs near my mailbox (130 Cedar Lake West). I will then deliver everything to the Denville Social Services annual food drive location. You can drop it off when you're driving by, walking around the lake, walking your dog, or have your kids drop it off. Drop stuff off anytime between now and November 16th. Thank you on behalf of Denville Social Services. Joe Ryerson 130 Cedar Lake West 973-983-2620 CLCC House & Grounds update! The paver project is done. Many thanks to everyone who helped out. Come on down and check out the great new space! Look for your bricks and enjoy the new 1000 sq. ft. hospitality area. FOUND An inner tube washed up on our dock during a rain storm a short while ago. About ten families and their wee ghosts and princesses came to enjoy our traditional parade around the clubhouse, and trick or treating from trunkto-trunk. Each family decorated their car/truck trunks with fun decorations, and played festive music on their sound systems. T.J. even transformed his work truck into a festive autumn scene with hay bales and pumpkins. It was a fun, safe way for the smaller set to trick or treat safely, and they enjoyed seeing each other in costume. Quite a few, new Cedar Lake residents attended, and hopefully made some new friends. Thank you to all who attended, donated goodies, and helped make our first-ever kids’ tailgate a success. 6 Discover "Jonathan's Woods and the Hogs Pen" Saturday, November 4th @ 9:30 am Quality of Life at Cedar Lake, and health of the lake is most important to all of us. One organization, POWWW has been working hard to preserve the woodlands, which surround us. Helping to keep the streams and aquifers clean. Jonathan's Woods, named after the Native American, that history says lived and died there, was an added piece of preservation, which POWWW spearheaded, partnering Municipalities and county agencies to preserve over 500 Acers. Cedar Lake and all the Lakes in this area remain today as are part of the retention system that keeps downtown from flooding. Cedar Lake connects directly to Jonathan's woods. HOWEVER…The preservation isn't over. The Hog Pen area north of Cedar Lake is an historically significant rock glen under threat of development. The 90-Acre plot is adjacent to Jonathan's Woods, and is the site that local farmers used to keep their livestock safe from British soldiers during the Revolutionary War. What can you do?… •Come join fellow Cedar Lakers for a hike thru Jonathan's Woods to Hog Pen with our own Hike Master Jim Florence on November 4th. Check the POWWW.Org website for details and parking arrangements. •Support one of the fundraising efforts, support local merchants who have placed the "SAVE HOG PEN" piggy banks in their stores, drop some Ka-ching in there while your visiting, which will go towards the Acquisition fund. •Order your POWWW "SAVE HOG PEN" t-shirt today! Join as a new member for $30, or re-join POWWW, and you'll receive a vintage maroon t-shirt. This is a limited time offer, so hurry. If you wish to just own a T-shirt send a $20.00 check to POWWW, P O Box 438 Denville NJ 07834 Order forms can be found on POWWW's web site. •Offer to help POWWW in any way you can. •Become a member. •Write letters to the editors of local newspapers supporting POWWW's efforts. •Buy tickets to the May 19th production of Jekyll and Hyde at the Barn Theatre in Montville and support CLCC and POWWW in one shot. Tickets available from Cathy Marshall ~ 973-625-7472 or Maggi Liebig 973-625-0254 What a GREAT Christmas Present. •Learn more about how destroying the under story of any forest creates long-term irreversible damage. ATV's are one of the biggest culprits. •Make a donation and have your own piece of the pen, or be honored as a pileated woodpecker, Cooper hawk, Red shouldered hawk, Bobcat and more. Look on POWWW.Org for more details. More environmental news. Wildcat Ridge runs through the NJ Highlands connecting close to Jonathan's woods and acts as an important feeding ground and nesting area for Hawks, eagles, and other raptors. Trust for Public Land Use has added more than 900 acres to the Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area. Hillcrest and Jonathan's woods can be seen easily from the look out at its peak. This is a great hike especially in autumn. Learn more, log onto the Wildcat Ridge website. 7 CLCC Board NewsOur website, WWW.CEDARLAKECC.COM, has recently gone through a total overhaul and the results are fantastic. Cathy and Max Marshall have created a source for all Cedar Lakers to find current information on events, sports, membership and rental information, as well as a picture gallery which is growing everyday. Current and past Blurbs will be posted for viewing, as well CLCC Board Members contact information. Please visit the site and check out all the hard work. If you see Max make sure to say thank you. He is another example of someone volunteering their talent to make the Club better.Thank you Max! The paver's project under the deck is finished! Some things take longer then you expect and that was the case with the pavers. It's never over with the Clubhouse when it comes to projects. The 5th Annual Golf Outing, Kid's Sports Award Dinner and Fall Wine tasting were all well attended and enjoyed by all.
