The Western Holstein Club’s 63rd Annual Wexham Cup Show and Sale of pedigree Holstein bulls attracted
an entry of 52 head. The sale was judged by Paul Westaway of Sterling Sires Ltd. The Wexham Cup is awarded to the bull that gains the most points on iinspection, production and type. This year won by Wintersell
Millicio ET from John Downing of Kent; Millicio is a son of Bertaiola Mincio and out Wintersell Mila 10th

the only cow from the UK out of 25 nominations for Holstein International’s Global Cow of the Year 2014.
Reserve Champion for the Wexham Cup and overall Champion on Inspection was Woodmarsh Zumero ET

FOR SUPER RED HEIFER FROM BURNBRAE
Clive Norbury 07831 485590
Stuart Hassall 07960 167513 Simon Lamb 07815 188125
The Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy cattle attracted an entry of
378 head in all sections of which 372 were forward on the day and 361 were sold. Despite the severe reductions in the price of milk there were plenty of buyers and plenty of bidding for all commodities.
MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS Right from the start there was plenty of bidding and the better the cattle
were the more the bidding. Anything strong, milky with lots of condition sold well but as you would expect
anything at all frail was much harder to clear.
Top price of the day went to a heifer from the Taylor brothers, Jack and Barclay, of Myddle, Shrewsbury with
a super red and white heifer by Big Apple Red; Burnbrae Apple Recise Red was out of a Rampage dam and
was sold giving 32 kg. Next top seller was Danevalley Steady Jewel from AL Moore and Partners of Byley,
Middlewich bred from four generations of VG dams. sold giving 34 kg. for £2420 Another Focus Milk heifer
was next in line selling at £2380; Rowarton Baltimor Anita from Roger and Pat Sutton of Astbury, Congleton
is a daughter of Regancrest Baltimor out of an (Ex92) Marathon dam sold giving 34 kg
Two heifers sold for £2350 each; a Woodmarsh Topshot daughter from the Boughey’s of Tarporley and a
Kings-Ransom Richman daughter from the Bowdens of Malpas. At £2300 a Fever daughter from Matthew
Jackson of Sandbach. A further 14 heifers cracked the £2k barrier or more.
Good strong milky cows were in great demand and sold up to £1900 twice, both of which were from the major consignment from SE Pym & Sons Ltd of Barrow, Chester who dispersing their cows as they calve through
the Mid Month Sale. Both were unregistered third calvers by Kendall and New Farm Britt Prince respectively.
Coloured breeds or crossbreds were in short supply but anything decent sold very well. These were led by a
lovely Dairy Shorthorn heifer from OC Whittaker & Sons of Knutsford; Broadlane Duchess Gwynne 104th was
sold for £1850 giving 28.5 kg. A second calf Norwegian Red cross cow from the Pym’s sold for £1750.
IN-CALF HEIFERS: There were a nice selection of in-calf heifers about this month with most of them being a
fairway off calving and again there were lots of buyers and plenty of bidding. Top price was £1680 for a December calver from A J Thompson of Kent.
MAIDEN HEIFERS: Again a nice selection forward and lots of interest which is not necessarily the norm at
this time of the year. Peter Rout of Tibbenham, Norfolk had the two top sellers at £1000 each both for August ’13 born daughters of Lavanguard. A large entry of First and Second cross Fleckvieh Maiden Heifers from
Fold Farm Partners of Hertford sold readily up to £670.
HEIFER CALVES: One of the largest entries of weaned and baby calves for some time sold extremely well
and . All the top price were dominated by entries from the Burnbrae Herd of the Taylors who are reducing
their heifer rearing enterprise. The top seller was £680 a 3 month old daughter of Al Par Shottle Nefas with
similar aged daughters of Newabbey Windbrake and Regancrest PJ Tabber at £650. . Baby calves were up to
£320 for an entry from David Drinkall.
AVEs (All Breeds): 59 Cows £1407.45 (3 Focus Milk Cows at £1726.67); 154 Milking Heifers £1623.57 (28
Focus Milk at £1840.00); 33 In-calf Heifers £1284.55; 71 Maiden Heifers £672.96; 41 Heifer Calves £418.54.
