Corner Clubhouse Gazette Presented by the Corner Clubhouse 247 Maple Street, Attleboro, MA 02703 Phone: 508-431-4100 Fax: 508-431-9919 Director’s Report Thankfully New Englanders had a much milder winter than last year, as it allowed the Corner Club House to attend all of the community affairs over the past quarter, without any snow delays or cancellations. With that being said, staff and members attend several events from January through March, beginning with the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition board meeting on January 6th. Discussion of the upcoming MCC Exemplary Employer Awards, and the DMH data reporting, were priority topics for that meeting. On January 28th, all of FHR’s clubhouse directors, and Tom Couhig, FHR Corporate Director of Clubhouse Services, attended the DMH employment initiative workshop at Worcester State. The clubhouses appreciate how helpful and receptive DMH has been to trouble shoot any IT issues that we have been experiencing. Fortunately it seems as though we are continuing to be enlightened as to what some of the IT challenges have been, and continuous progress in data reporting has been made. Corner Clubhouse was proud to report 100% accuracy in our employment data, with a 25% rate of employed members, for March. On February 10th, DMH scheduled an employment visit at the Corner Clubhouse, to collect information on how our clubhouse conducts orientations, and our employment program. Matt Cianci provided a very thorough outcomes report of this, and we were pleased that there were several favorable remarks about both aspects of our clubhouse’s process for orientations and employment. February 25th was the DMH legislative breakfast in Boston. Members and staff from the Corner Clubhouse attended the event, and stated that once again there was standing room only at the State House, as it was so well-attended. The following month, the Corner Club was at the State House for another one of our much anticipated events, the MCC Exemplary Employer Awards on 03/29/16. This year we nominated Walmart in Raynham. Harry R. has been working there, just under a year now, and they have been absolutely fabulous with their supports and accommodations for Harry. Corner Club also has members working at two other Walmart Stores in the Taunton / Attleboro area. Our last notable event for March, and the quarter, was a mock accreditation visit with Clubhouse International Trainees. As part of their training, new accreditors are asked to visit a number of clubhouse and look for points of discussion that might be relevant during an accreditation process. Members and staff from clubhouses in: MA, NY, and FLA, were welcomed at our program for a half-day mock accreditation. This was a very positive experience which gave us the opportunity to gain some further insight as to areas in which we can develop our clubhouse further, in preparation for our next Clubhouse International Accreditation. Corner Clubhouse will tentatively be planning this for some time in the fall. Happy Spring from the Corner Clubhouse! Karen Therrien Program Director Administration/Vocational Unit Don from the Admin/ Voc. unit is getting geared up for the Clubhouse International accreditation trainee’s visit. Yet, he still has time to pause and show off the pearly whites! A Visit from Clubhouse International trainees: On March 30th, Corner Clubhouse was visited by some special guests from three Clubhouses. Luis, Clubhouse Director from Club Success in Florida. Elizabeth, Clubhouse Director from Lantern House in New York. And Karen, member from Genesis Clubhouse in Worcester. They came to Corner Club as part of their experiential accreditation curriculum. They spent the day here, meeting with members and staff to learn more about three specific areas of the Clubhouse International Standards which included: The Work Ordered Day, Clubhouse Relationships, and Membership. This was a great experience for all involved and we gained some additional valuable feedback about our clubhouse. “Ashley L.” Meet our Human Rights’ Officers! Jen (left) & Jenna (right). We also used some Tortilla wraps to put everything on after it was cooked.” Carl M. Ian B. Part of the Culinary/Operations unit to keep up with the general maintenance of the clubhouse. We are Spring Cleaning, and have started with giving the clubhouse a new coat of paint. Members and staff have been working together to spiff up the place with fresh colors. It is nice to see everyone working together to make sure that all the improvements are done. We also are deep cleaning everything that is not tied down.
