These “3C’s” make up the heart of the
mission of Lake Wapogasset Lutheran
Camp, Inc. We exist for the campers, we
train skilled young adults to be counselors
and staff, and our four camp sites provide
adventure, beauty, oasis, comfort, and
safety. Your support for LWLBC, Inc.
enables all “3C’s” in vital ways.

We have been blessed with the following
families who have established endowed
scholarships in memory of their loved ones and
to honor their commitment to camping ministry.
Each summer these 10 scholarships are given
to campers who have financial need:

We are delighted to proclaim that anyone
and everyone can come to camp. Everyone
can come, even if they can’t afford it. I
recently met with a pastor of a small and
struggling Minneapolis church. He was
telling me that they don’t have any kids in
their church and they currently worship in a
food shelter. I asked him if there were any
kids in the shelter. His response? “Lots of
them ” Together, we came up with a plan to
get these kids to camp. His church begins
to serve in a new way, connecting to their
immediate community and we give kids
the opportunity to go to camp. The pastor
recently reported he already has 10 kids
that want to go to camp!
Your Financial Challenge: Help us
CHANGE LIVES and build new ministries.
This year we anticipate providing over
$120,000 in camperships so that all can
come. Our average scholarship amount is
$250 and a single camper registration
is $410. How many lives do you want
to change?
COUNSELORS
LWLBC, Inc. hires 200 young adult
counselors, canoe guides, life guards,
maintenance staff, cooks, program directors,
and first aid staff. These young people have
a passion to serve, a growing faith in Jesus
to explore, and a deep desire to make a
difference. They are exactly what we want
all our young adults to aspire to. A summer
staffer makes $225 per week. In exchange,
they work 12 -15 hour days, live in intense
Christian community, deal with all kinds
of children and teen issues, while keeping
them safe and enthused to play and pray.
Last year one of our counselors donated
half of her summer salary to support
camperships. She is a beautiful example
of a young adult who is deeply committed
to Christ and to serving others. When was
the last time you believed in something so
much you would give up half your salary?
Your Financial Challenge: A summer
staffer earns $2250. How many amazing,
talented and deeply committed young
adults do you want to support?
CAMP SITES
LWLBC, Inc. is blessed with four spectacular
campsites. The WAPO site is close to the
Twin Cities and provides high comfort, year
round facilities, surrounded by spectacular
lakes. Hundreds of acres at the nearby
Ox Lake site provide space for the horse
program, ropes course, and lots of hiking
and camping. Wilderness Canoe Base is at
the edge of Minnesota’s Boundary Waters
Canoe Area Wilderness. High adventure
canoeing, rock climbing and fishing take
place in a setting undisturbed by the noise
of modern life. And families and youth love
coming to Luther Dell, located near Remer,
MN with its fantastic lake isolated in the
glorious north woods and served by those
amazing summer counselors.
Your Financial Challenge: Maintaining
and improving these four sites is an ongoing
task and needs generous donors and
volunteers. What project would you like
to take on? What cabin would you like to
improve? What piece of equipment are you
willing to provide?

Our volunteers make a big difference at camp! In
fact, we depend on hundreds of volunteers each
year to help us with special events, mailings,
service projects, and work projects. Have you got
a skill you’d like to share or feel called to serve in

Jesus highlights the importance of creating space for
prayer in our busy lives. That can be hard to do! At
camp this summer we hope to offer kids the opportunity
to practice finding time and space to speak to God. He
promises to listen!

and thanksgiving. Our goal is to help kids to grow and
be challenged by one of the most foundational faith
practices we have as Christians – Prayer!

in charge of setting up tents,

Come Away
Whirlwind. This word frequently comes to mind
at the end of a normal day in our household. I’m
certain it applies to many of you as well. Our
days are so full, aren’t they? Carpooling kids to
school and activities, going to work, managing a
household, making meals, entertaining, caring
for other family members, attending church and
other various committees, etc. The list of good
things to do and be involved in is endless, isn’t it?
At Wapo, we have the unique opportunity to
experience people while they “come away” for a
few days, or a week. Retreating, or withdrawing,
or getting away from it all are important pieces
of our Spiritual lives that are easy to overlook.
Because so many of us spend an enormous
amount of time plugged in; on our phones, on
our computers, or watching television, finding a
time and place without distractions is difficult.
The Bible says “Jesus often withdrew to lonely
places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16) He wants the
same for us.
While it is true that Wapo isn’t often described
as a lonely place, it is a place where people
“come away” to delve deeper into God’s
word, experience fellowship and worship, and
strengthen and maintain relationships. We
often hear our retreat guests exclaim “Wow!
I needed this time away”, or “It’s so nice to
be disconnected from my computer” “It’s so
beautiful outside!, and “that was the BEST worship
time – things are just so much more fun at our
camp retreats.”
There is majesty in time spent apart from our
regular routines. There are likely many missed
opportunities to hear God speak to us while
we are so diligently busy with our lives. Thank
heavens for churches and groups who believe in
the practice of retreating!
