Principal’s
Message
The last week of term two does not mean the
activities are any less for students and staff.
Biggest Morning Tea Tuesday, Small Schools
Soccer Gala Day and 4 t’s sport in Tottenham on

and primary movie night at St Patricks School on
Thursday and secondary welfare BBQ on Friday.
The term is certainly finishing with plenty of activity.
Good luck to our table tennis team who are
competing in the state finals at Homebush today.
Unfortunately, the organisers gave us only 5 day’s
notice of this event. Thank you to Libby Wykes and
Carolyn Watt for allowing their boys to compete on
very short notice and accompanying them to
Sydney. Special thanks to Wendy O’Bryan Turner
for allowing Karl to compete and her generosity
which reduced the cost of this event for the boys.
industry and repairing trucks. It is common
knowledge that as an owner driver the only way to
make a small fortune out of trucks is to start off with
a large one and wear it down, but he still survives
in the industry after many years and cares for his
family emotionally and financially. To me he is one
of my biggest success stories because he makes
maximum use of his skills and has the attitude to
succeed.
The upgrade of the video conferencing facilities is
almost complete with two reverse cycle air
conditioners being installed on Wednesday last
week. I firmly believe that children cannot perform
their best if they are uncomfortable in the
classroom. The existing air conditioner will go to
tender. It was working at the time it was
decommissioned but this was some time ago. It
comes with a concrete warranty. Soon as it leaves

and deliver to front office.

of school funds. Special thanks already to Peter
Coster who offered to transport soil to the site. This
is a great start to the project.
In other good news we will have two new students
starting with us in third term. This will maintain our
numbers at 114 students. I was expecting an
additional two students but it looks like they will
now not be attending until next year. Considering
we were around 97 last year this is a very positive
trend for the school. I suspect our numbers will
fluctuate depending on the rural economy but I
hope we will always maintain three primary
classes. This requires 52 students in the primary
section of the school so continue to promote this
wonderful town to attract new people to the district.

Thank you to the wonderful members of the P&C
for catering at the Byong clearing sale. Some
people worked all day without a break. I
appreciate your efforts for the school and the
positive difference funds raised will make. The
other important aspect of the P&C being active in
the community is the very positive publicity for our
great school.
Students or members of the public are not to enter
the school grounds over the holidays. Schools are
enclosed lands and as such entering the school
without permission is an offence.
Another great week in Trundle.

Big Gig is an inter-school performing arts event which is now in its sixth staging. Three
Access Schools, Trundle, Tullamore and Yeoval formed to produce the first version of Big
Gig in 2001and it is now staged every two years. Schools must produce an original 30
minute performance which includes music, dance and drama, which will then be
performed in each participating town as a matinee and evening performance. Big Gig
provides a great opportunity for students in isolated areas to showcase their local talent.
Auditions for speaking parts will begin this week. The script will be sent home over the
holidays for students to learn their lines.
Rehearsals will begin in Term 3. They will involve lunchtime and regular after school
rehearsals. Towards the end there may be rehearsals during school time.

Best wishes to Brodi Gavin Rossiter who heads off to Canada this week as
part of a schools sports program to compete in a number of athletics
carnivals. The events Brodi will be competing in are Discus, Shot Put,
100m and Long Jump. Brodi was selected to be part of this program after
his excellent performances at the State Athletics carnival last year. After
competing in Canada he will head with the group to America to visit some
tourist attractions such as Disneyland and Universal Studios. This is a
wonderful opportunity and we wish him the best of luck. We look

TRUNDLE CENTRAL SCHOOL
Croft St, Trundle NSW 2875
A school that provides a professional, stimulating and challenging learning environment
SOCIAL/MOVIE NIGHTS POLICY
Social/movie nights are held at various times throughout the year to provide supervised social interaction to students
of the school. Attendance at school social/movie nights is a privilege which is dependent on acceptable behaviour and
cooperation from students, along with staff volunteering to supervise.
The following matters are relevant to the holding of social/movie nights at Trundle Central School.
Secondary social/movie nights will be organised by the Stage 5 Co-ordinator while Primary social/movie nights will be
organised by the Assistant Principal. Attendance by staff at social/movie nights is voluntary. However, it is a requirement that at least 2 teachers indicate that they will be at the social/movie night before a social/movie night can be
held.
Permission to attend social/movie nights will be granted if the student is on level 3 (secondary) level B or above as per
the welfare policy. Primary students may not be granted permission to attend a social/movie night if they have been
suspended prior to a social/movie night.
Parents / carers are welcome at all social/movie nights.
Notification of each social/movie night will be included on the Newsletter prior to the social/movie night being held.
This will include the finishing time of each social/movie night.
It is expected that students will adhere to normal school standards of behaviour consistent with Trundle Central
School’s K-12 Welfare and Discipline Policy and Anti-bullying policy.
Tobacco, items that can be used as weapons and all forms of alcohol and other drugs are strictly forbidden at social/
movie nights. Students found in possession of weapons or illegal drugs will be reported to police.
Social/movie nights will be restricted to students attending Trundle Central School. Approved guests may be invited by
the school.
In general, Secondary social/movie nights shall run from 7.30 – 10.30pm in Summer and 7.00 – 10.00pm in Winter. In
general, Primary social/movie nights will start at 7.00pm and end at 9.00pm in Summer and 6.30pm – 8.30pm in Winter. Infants’ social/movie nights run from 6.00 – 7.00pm in Summer and 5.30 – 6.30pm in Winter. K-6 students must be
picked up from the social/movie night by a parent/carer. Students are expected to remain at the social/movie night
until the conclusion of the social/movie night. If children need to leave the social/movie night early, an explanatory
note from a parent / carer should be given to the teacher organising the social/movie night at school on the day of the
social/movie night.
Students who do not attend school on the day of the social/movie night should not attend the social/movie night.
School absences should be consistent with DET acceptable reasons and students who are away sick should not attend
social/movie nights on that night.
Students who arrive later than 15 minutes after the social/movie night begins will not be admitted unless the teacher
in charge has been notified prior to the social/movie night or the student brings a note from parents. Parents / carers
of students not admitted will be phoned immediately before students are sent home. Students will remain under supervision if parents / carers can not be contacted.
Students from Trundle Central School who attend social/movie nights at other venues or schools must comply with the

1. Children need literary books that stimulate the imagination, encourage
curiosity, play and wonder. Children need to have a rich experience of what reading
can be like to be enthused and excited about reading. They need intense, exciting,
funny, scary books.
2. Let go of expected outcomes more often and enjoy the wonder of
literature. Let them explore; let them imagine; let them be grasped into the author‘s
world; let them play; escape and daydream.
3. Don’t focus and get stuck on the skills of decoding because that‘s a sure
way to kill enthusiasm for reading. There is no value in teaching children to read if there‘s no excitement about
reading.
4. Let children choose the books they read. What captures the imagination varies for each child,
(as it does for adults); so let children choose the books they will read. This choice is not always easy.
How often have we as adults stood in front of countless bookshelves as we make our decisions? Provide
guidance for supportive choices. Listen to their interests and needs.
5. Create special reading areas. Make it easier for children to concentrate when reading. Make it
comfortable and ensure good lighting. A quiet environment is also helpful.
6. Have a good supply of engaging books. You can tell if the books you‘ve got are engaging by the
level of noise or silence during reading.
7. Introduce new books to children by reading aloud. Make it engaging – use character voices. If
you‘re really terrible at this, look for great audio books. The more engaged they are, the more value
children will place on books and reading.
8. Give children more time to read. It‘s not just
about the quality of time, but the quantity of time.
