Recently the students of Year 10 HSIE Geography travelled to ‗The Drip‘ in
Gulgong. Here the students performed field testing of the area under threat. We
walked the 1km track and saw the paintings of famous Australian artist, Brett
Whiteley and ancient indigenous hand prints. Then we arrived at the drip, a huge
rock face that underground aquifers supply water that drips down the side of the
rock.

Principal’s
Message
Last week‘s newsletter could not be printed because
both our photocopiers were broken. This Principal‘s
message as a result is a combination of two weeks
information. Actually, our new state of the art
photocopier is not broken because you actually have to
work to be classified as broken. The manufacturer
delivered a machine that can almost guide the shuttle to
the international space station but left out a very
important part, a power lead. During these moments I
often wonder if the cameras from the funniest home
video show are waiting for my reaction. So the only
option is to laugh and get on with it.
this is a fantastic opportunity for the students of
Trundle. This program is not limited to Trundle Central
School, if students from other schools would like to
take part they are welcome. I believe I have a
responsibility for education in the Trundle area as a
whole and welcome students from other schools when
possible. Mr Richards has a very simple role statement
to allow Trundle children the opportunity to love
music.
On Thursday, week 4, Parkes Shire Council interrupted
the water supply to the school . This required a
temporary halt to normal school activities between the
hours of 9:00 am and 12 noon. The office staff in their
normal efficient way contacted over 70 families to
inform them that the school was not operating normally
during these hours. The quality of an administration staff
is not determined when things are running smoothly but
when there is a disruption the true quality and efficiency
is determined. I would like to also thank the school
community for making alternative arrangements for
children when the water supply was interrupted. I

disappointment.
I am especially pleased with the number of students
attending the cross country event. School is not only
about academics; sport, pastoral care and music are also
important aspects of a comprehensive education. These
events are also great social occasions where students
can meet others from neighbouring towns often
forming lasting friendships. I have witnessed several
students throughout my career meet their life partners
at inter-school functions. If that doesn‘t get protective
fathers to attend these events no statement will!
On Friday, week 4, I attended a Western Areas
Program Principal‘s meeting. Attending this meeting
were Departmental officers who manage rural
education at a state level. It is an indication of the
Departments commitment to our schools that these
people came to the Central West. The Department is
continually looking for greater efficiencies and improved
outcomes for rural students. During this meeting it was
announced that an internal review of stage 6 programs
and documentation would occur in the near future
across all Western Access Program schools. I welcome

Unfortunately it cannot print money so I hope it will
lead to greater efficiencies.
A local person said to me that her teenage son was well
behaved for a child of today. I thought about this
statement. Is this parent stating that children are more
assertive and questioning of adults? This is a good thing
because abuse of children often occurs because children

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read
simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many
other places around the country. This year is the book will be ‘The Brothers Quibble’ by Aaron Blabey.
We warmly welcome parents/carers and friends to come along and join K-6 in the
Trundle Central School library for the reading of the book and some fantastic activities
on Wednesday, 27th May at 9:00am.

Lawn Bowls
Last Wednesday we had two teams
participate in the cluster lawn bowls
competition at Tullamore. The
schools participating in the event
included Trundle, Tullamore,
Tottenham and Trangie. Our
number 1 team consisted of Isabelle
Wykes, Albert Wykes and Wills
Wells and our Number 2 Team was
Luke Watt, Brad Watt and Karl
Turner. The day consisted of a Round
Robin competition and the two
Trundle teams had to play one
another in the last round. Team 1
went into the game with 3 wins and
(back l-r) Luke Watt, Karl Turner, Brad Watt, Albert Wykes
1 loss whilst Team 2 was undefeated.
(front l-r) Wills Wells and Isabelle Wykes
The game consisted of some friendly
banter between the students but Team 2 eventually came away with the win. As a result Team 2 won the
day and Team 1 was second on a count back. Luke, Brad and Karl will now head to the State carnival in
Dubbo next term but due to the rules stating only one team per school can attend the state carnival it
means although our Team 1 was 2nd they are ineligible to attend state. Well done to all the students!

Western Area Table Tennis
Congratulations to Luke Watt, Brad Watt, Karl Turner and Brodi Gavin Rossiter who
won the Western Area Table Tennis Competition that was held at Canobolas High
School in Orange last Tuesday. The event seen the boys ranked from 1 to 4 within their
team, they played singles against the same ranked player in opposition teams then they
played doubles. The boys beat Yeoval in the final to be crowned the Western Area
Champions. The boys are keenly awaiting the news to find out if they have to progress to
a state carnival. Well done boys!

Each week there will be a newsletter article promoting courses run across the Western Access Program. This program is highly
successful in delivering a wider curriculum across our schools, maximising student choice and achievement.
Hospitality – Fiona Kerin – Yeoval CS
Currently Year 12 Hospitality are completing the unit –
‗Participate in Environmentally Sustainable Work
Practices‘. Students are required to examine how
effectively resources are used, how waste is disposed of
within the legal requirements and who to report any
breaches or hazards to in the hospitality industry. As a
part of their assessment, students need to complete an
environmental audit of their school kitchen.
Yeoval Central School found it extremely beneficial to
analyse our current workplace procedures to see how
we could become more environmentally efficient. The
main focus for this unit is for students to become more
environmentally aware.

Trapped in a hidden fortress
tucked between towering
mountains and a frozen sea,
Solveig, along with her brother
the crown prince, their older
sister, and an army of restless
warriors, anxiously awaits news
of her father's victory at battle.
But as winter stretches on, and
the unending ice refuses to
break, terrible acts of treachery
soon make it clear that a traitor
lurks in their midst. A malevolent air begins to seep through
the fortress walls, and a
smothering claustrophobia
slowly turns these prisoners of
winter against one another.
The horses are in danger. They
were rounded up by the two-legs
and forced onto a boat to cross
the wide ocean. The journey went
badly and the boat was deemed
too heavy, so the two-legs forced
the horses into the sea and sailed
away, leaving the herd to die in
the deep.
If you find a mammoth in your fridge,
there are two questions you should ask:
How did it get there?
and
How do you get it out?
