P O T EN TAT E ’ S M ES S AGE :
Illustrious Michael D. Ritter
It is certainly one of my greatest
honors to have been elected and
installed as your Potentate for
2015. The past eight years representing you as a member of the
Divan as well as the years prior
when I helped aide have been so
rewarding and memorable that I
can’t wait for the future of our
Shrine. Installation night was absolutely one of the most unforgettable
experiences of my life. From the
opening procession, to Noble
David Harlow doing such an amazing job on our installation. Then
being humbled to have so many of
you there to enjoy and be a part of
our special night just meant so
much to me and my family. The
reception and light dinner prepared
by Chief Aide Robert Shoemaker
and his staff was just remarkable
and made such a positive impact on
our fraternity and the principles for
which we stand. A special thanks to
all of the people that worked so
hard on decorating and preparing
the facilities for the evening! Shannon and I thank you all from the
bottom of our hearts for helping to
kick off what we hope is a very fun
filled and eventful year for our
Temple and its Nobility.
We very quickly went into our
brand new circus which was
slightly down this year. I would
like to thank the Circus Committee,
Divan, Uniform Units, Shrine
Clubs, and the Nobility for all their
hard work and many hours they put
forth to make the circus a success.
To our circus daddies we appreciate your support. Also, a special
thank you to Ill. Bobby Boitnott for
the many long hours he puts into
the circus before it even starts. I
certainly found out just how much
activity goes on in the days leading
up to our circus and I know that we
have the best group of individuals
around in preparing and planning
for this huge undertaking that supports our Temple. As of March 16,
2015 over 600 Nobles have not
paid for their Circus tickets or re-
turned them as an unpaid item. I
encourage all Nobles who did not
purchase their Circus tickets to
please consider a donation to this,
the largest fund raising event for
Kazim, to offset the short fall of
the budgeted amounts of the
Circus. This is greatly needed
for the operations of our temple.
In the weeks that followed I visited with many of our shrine
clubs and units. The enthusiasm
and smiles that I have witnessed
has reenergized our membership.
And everyone seems so excited
again to be a part of our Shrine.
Please keep up the good work
and we will continue to have a
fabulous year for our shrine.
Then on to our Potentate’s Ball a
Denim and Diamonds affair wow
what an event! We had one of the
greatest evenings that Shannon
and I could have imagined with
all of you, our family and friends.
We can’t say THANK YOU
enough. The hospitality room at
the hotel was spectacular, the
decorations in the Temple Ballroom were beautiful, the bartenders were hard at work, Country
Kitchen out did themselves, and
the DJ - Steve Nelson was fantastic. It was wonderful to see the
dance floor full until the last
dance. Everyone who was in
attendance seemed to have had a
wonderful time. Whether they
were riding the Love Train or
doing the YMCA. It seemed a
good time was had by all.
We will be leaving in a few days
for a Bahamas cruise with a number of our Shrine family. I am
looking forward to some fun,
sun, and relaxing times with all.
Then after a relaxing 7 days it
back to work for the nobility,
temple and the children.
As we carry on with a long
stretch of meetings and events
that not only promote our frater-
nal efforts for our children, but
also help support our Temple and
its membership. Remember to
keep your calendars nearby and
check in on our website often to
see what is going on within our
Temple. And remember what I
said in the meetings that I have
attended. Please let’s support
each other, it is easier to get support, if you give support.
With our Spring Ceremonial Fun In The Sun Beach Blast
coming up May 1st and 2nd at the
temple and open house on Friday
night. Let’s bring our new Nobles
out and show off our Temple so
they will be proud to be one of
us! Just remember that you can
make a difference. Everyone’s
presence will help our fraternity
grow and prosper for 2015 and
beyond. The Imperial Session is
in Houston, Texas this year and
is scheduled for the week of July
5th – July 9th. If you have any
questions you can contact me or
the Temple office. Ending the
month of July we will be at the
annual Potentate’s Classic July
31st and the All Shrine Parade in
Abingdon on August 1st. SASA
will be just around the corner it is
scheduled for September 17th –
20th in Myrtle Beach, SC. We
will be staying at the Crown Reef
Resort. You can get the information about this in the Kazimer
and on our website.
We hope
you enjoy the return of the big
edition of our Kazimer with all
the information. We hope to see
you all in the very near future as
we strive to bring Kazim Temple
back to the forefront of Shrinedom in all its endeavors to help
the orthopaedic and burned children. God Bless you all and God
Bless the Shrine. Now let’s
Make A Child’s Dream In 2015!
Yours In Faith,
Michael D. Ritter

Application for Membership
THE IMPORTANCE OF MEMBERSHIP AND DUES
There are many organizations that operate under a dues structure to support their goals and
objectives. In addition to the dues there are on-going projects to raise funds to support and
maintain the strength of the organizations. Many of us belong to such groups.
The special organization I am referring to is our Kazim Shrine Temple. The Shrine Temple
membership is unique in that our membership comes from our Masonic Lodges. Another
unique aspect of our Shrine Temple is the sole purpose of supporting children with special
needs of orthopedic or accidental burn injuries. The vast organization of the Shriners
Hospitals is the only way they have to receive the needed care.
So my brothers, that makes YOU SPECIAL.
Transporting a child along with a parent or guardian to a Shriners Hospital is a special
opportunity you will never forget.
So, I will get back to the reason for this communication. I asked Ill. Sir Michael Ritter if he
would allow me to communicate with nobles who had not yet paid their 2015 dues. His
permission was granted and in February there were approximately 270 e-mails and or letters
sent to the nobles. At this time, your Temple has received and processed 55 payments. To
those who have responded, we thank you very much. We look forward to receiving many
more payments. If a noble wishes to make equal part payments over three or four months,
that option is available. There is no reason a noble should be suspended for nonpayment of
dues at the year end. If you wish to take advantage of a part payment schedule, please
contact the Recorder’s Office. Working together will generate positive results.
Your continued membership and support and that of new nobles is part of the formula for
taking care of the “Shriners’ Children.” The need is probably stronger now than ever before.
Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do for Kazim Shriners.

T HE C IRC US U P DAT E :
The 2015 Kazim Shrine Circus was held at the
Roanoke Berglund Center January 29th
through February 1st with an all new circus.
Kazim Temple contracted with the Jordan’s
World Circus of Las Vegas.
This years circus was considered a better
show, by many, and we have received very good reviews.
Admittedly, some of the performances were the same that
we had in years past, but were the best of the overall performers from the previous circus group.
Jody Jordan brought us a very good show, however, we
were down in attendance by some 4000 people and down
in our income. The Circus Committee believes we were
negatively affected as a result of the substandard reviews
of the previous circus group, and a few incidents that
made the news during our 2014 circus. In addition, we
made the decision to go with 6 shows instead of 7 shows
this year by dropping the last show on Super-bowl Sunday.
We should be able to build better attendance,
for 2016, with the improved performance that
the Jordan’s World Circus brings to Kazim’s
important fundraising event.
There are so many people to thank. It takes so
many people to make this work. It is important to thank all of the Units and Clubs, the Divan, the
Office Staff, the Circus Committee, the Circus Dads, the
Masonic Youth Groups, our sponsors, and everyone who
played a roll in making this 4 day event the most important fundraising event for our temple.
We have started planning the 2016 circus and hope to
improve by bringing in more attendance and income.
Bobby Boitnott, PP
Circus Chairman

“ From our SASCA Sergeant at Arms”:
Hello there Brother Clowns,
Klowns, Tramps, and Misfits!
Congratulations to all of our
Kazim Clown units for taking
home the “Overall Clown
Trophy” at SASA in 2013 and
2014.
Here at Kazim, we are blessed
with plenty of talent, and are
very fortunate to have had the
leadership of Mike Wallace,
who served as President of
SASCA 2013/2014.
It’s time to get ready for another successful year at SASA
now. The Clown competition
and the SASA parade will be
held on Friday September 18th
this year. Aaron Tippin will be
in concert at Pelican Stadium
on Saturday 9/19.
The “Overall Clown Trophy”
that we have taken home the
past two years is awarded to the
Temple with the most points
earned during clown activities
at SASA.
Here is a breakdown of how the
points are earned:
1)
2)
3)
Temples are awarded a
point for each member
attending the Thursday
7pm business meeting.
Temples are awarded a
point for each member in
competition.
And points are awarded
for first (3), second (2), and
third (1), place in competition.
It really makes a difference
when we show up for the
Thursday night business meeting, and enter competition!
Competition is a fun learning
experience that shows us how
we can work to be the best we
can be. The points really add up
when more of us compete.
I encourage every Clown,
Klown, Tramp, and Misfit to
enter competition this year, If
you have not placed 1st, 2nd, or
3rd previously in a SASCA competition, you can enter as a
Novice. If you have placed, you
will need to enter in the Open
Division. There have been
times when there are only one
or two entries in a category. I
would like to see all of our units
enter single, two man, or a
group skits. Think about Red
Skelton, Abbott and Costello or
other old time comedy routines
for your skits, and start working
on them now. You don’t want
to wait until a month before
competition to begin to put it
together. Work on skits about
three minutes long.
There are also single and multiple balloon categories. Last
year, there was only one entry
for single balloon, leaving two
awards unclaimed.
So let’s get ready now to bring
home the big “Overall Clown
Trophy” for the third year in a
row!
If I can help you with any competition ideas, or answers, contact me at:

T HE K A Z IM P ROVO S T G UA RD U N IT :
2015 has started off as a very busy year
for the Provost Guard Unit. We have
been busy with several events, which
included the Shrine Circus, our annual
Valentine Dance, and we are hosting
the Spring SASA Provost Guard Association’s annual meeting and banquet
in the Roanoke Valley April 23 - 26,
2015.
and closing out that Saturday night with a
formal banquet and band at the hotel.
bringing new members to our great organization.
The Provost Guard Unit congratulates our
2015 Illustrious Potentate, Michael Dean
Ritter, on having a great year thus far. His
Installation and Potentate’s Ball were extremely well attended. He plans a repeat
performance for the Spring Ceremonial in
May.
We hope to see you at the upcoming events
and also at Fall SASA in Myrtle Beach.
Have a great spring and enjoy the upcoming summer. Thank goodness winter is now
behind us.
The 2015 Chief of the SASA Provost
Guard Association is Gary Huffman,
from Kazim. The Chief hosts the
spring meetings and with the help of
the entire Provost Guard Unit, we have
a great weekend planned for those who
will travel from great distances to attend. Our host hotel is the Holiday Inn
Valley View and we have several excursions planned for our guests.
The Provost Guard has been fortunate to
have seen some growth in our membership
in the past several months. We would like
to welcome our newest members; Ian Lowdon, Maurice Fisher, Tom Williamson, and
Gary Taylor. These gentlemen and their
ladies have recently joined our unit and we
are happy to have them on board.
We have a casual “Fiesta” event scheduled in the Kazim Ballroom on the
Friday night, an Abbott bus trip to
Chateau Morrisette Winery with a
luncheon in their beautiful dining room
We are excited about the opportunity to
obtain additional members, as result of an
expectation of a fairly large spring class of
new Nobles, during the upcoming Spring
Ceremonial.
Membership is the key to a successful
future of our unit and our temple. We
think the future is bright. Join us in

held their “Annual
Shriners Day” on Saturday March 14, 2015.
There were over 420
people in attendance
from the 18 Shrine
Temples that make up
the patient catch basin
for the hospital. Kazim
had Miss Virginia
World, Arielle Rosmarino, tour the facility
with our members who
were present. Arielle
has chosen to use the Shriners Hospitals as her
charitable platform for her year. She has announced that she will be raising money for the
Kazim Transportation Fund and the Greenville
Hospital during the year 2015.
The educational theme for this year was on spinal concerns and surgical corrections. The patient ambassador that was used as a case study,
that Dr. Mendelow spoke about, was Hunter
Jarman, a Kazim patient from Lynchburg, VA.
Hunter and his family had the opportunity to
speak to the entire group as well. The Jarman
Family stressed their deep appreciation to the
Roadrunners. Hunter’s dad expressed his sincere
thanks to the men who give their time to take
care of his family while he would have to work
in order to provide for them, and was unable to
leave his job for the many trips that Hunter has
taken to Greenville.
