OCTOBER 2015
OCTOBER 2015 VOLUME #7 POTENTATE’S MESSAGE Well summer is over and things are back in full Shrine mode again. I would like to tell everyone a big Thank you that helped or attended the Uniformed Units Hog Roast at the Temple on August 22. The First Lady and I were unable to attend this event, as we had decided to attend the South Solomon Shrine Club Picnic out at Lake Webster, which was scheduled the same day. This is the first time that this Club had scheduled a meeting in a long time, so I figured that the Divan and Temple should show them support as they try to become active again. Lynn and myself, along with the HighPriest and his Lady, Joni, made the trip out to a cabin where the meeting was held. I would like to tell the South Solomon Club thanks for the hospitality and for purchasing a case of fire extinguishers helping support the First Lady’s fund raiser. At the end of August the Divan and some of the Nobles along with their Ladies attended CSSA Ceremonial in Golden, CO. I would like to tell Noble Jerry Rodman and the CSSA Legion of Honor a big thanks for their help with finding a hotel for this event. I would like to tell everyone who attended thanks for going. A big thanks goes out to the members of the Scott City’s Shrine Club for bringing their motorcycles out for the parade. It was very neat for Isis Temple to be represented in the CSSA parade. I hope that our Temple can continue to be active in future events of this nature. I was honored that we had the turnout of Nobles and their Ladies to attend a parade in Luray, KS on Sunday the 6th. This was a parade that honored the memory of Bill and Delores Rabbas. On Labor Day, we attended the Hoisington Parade, where we had a great turnout of Nobles and their Ladies for the parade and we had an excellent picnic after the parade was over. Thanks for all that makes this possible every year. On the tenth we had a Stated Meeting at the Temple, where we talked about starting to plan for the next CSSA in Little Rock, AR next year. Please make plans to attend . We also talked about the Per-Capita Tax that was voted in at this year Imperial Session. Here is some useful information: At the Imperial Session in Houston this past July, a $15.00 increase in Per-Capita Tax was voted on and approved; this will be reflected on the 2016 Dues Notices, which will be mailed the first part of October. However, if a Noble wishes to seize the opportunity to invest in a Per-Capita Life Membership, they may do so at a total of $450 (thirty times the current tax amount) until the end of the calendar year. Waiting until 1/1/2016 or after will double the amount required for a Per-Capita Life Membership (the new total will be $900). As the end of the year approaches and holiday gift exchanges are planned, please consider encouraging your Nobles and their families to invest in Life Membership options – especially the Per-Capita Life Memberships, as they will never again be offered for the low price of $450. Securing a Per-Capita Life Membership, Permanent Contributing Membership (for the Hospital Assessment) and/ or a Temple Life Membership will help ensure the continued membership of your Nobles, and preserve the future of our fraternity and its philanthropy. Life membership in the Shrine is truly the gift that keeps on giving. The First Lady and I were asked to attend the Ronnie Thames Foundation Awards for Fire Fighters on September 11th in Atlanta, GA. This is the company where the First Lady gets her fundraiser fire-aide extinguishers from. There were over seven hundred people at this event and it was a big honor for the First Lady of Isis Temple to be asked to tell her story. Then on September 12th, she presented her story to the Yaarab Temple in Atlanta, along with three other Shrine patients. We were treated like royalty all weekend. I ask you all to please try and make it to your local Shrine Club meetings and the different events that are scheduled for the month of October. November 6th and 7th is the Fall Ceremonial in Salina. We need all the candidates we can get. Check with your local Blue Lodges and invite members to join our philanthropy. Yours in Faith Illus. COSTUME PARTY October 30th, 2015 6:00 PM Best Costume Contest (Men & Women) Bring your favorite snacks to share! Well, that month went fast! Life seems to do that with age.... the older I get the faster it goes—makes me appreciate life, friends, and family more. We just got back from Atlanta, Georgia. There was over 700 people at the Ronnie Thames Foundation 9/11 Appreciation for Firefighters. It was held at the Delta Airlines Flight Museum in Atlanta and was absolutely beautiful. They do this every year and if you ever get the opportunity to go please do so, it was so humbling. We got to go to Yaarab Shrine the next day for their hospital kick off. Yaarab Shrine is absolutely beautiful and we were welcomed with open arms - in true Shrine fashion. We got to meet some of the patient ambassadors for this year. These kids are absolutely amazing and are getting the best medical care in the world because of what we do through the Shrine - it is so good to be a part of that. October and November will mark very busy months for us. We are going to attend Tangier and Tehama’s Potentate’s Balls, both are in Nebraska. It will be good to see our counterparts again. We plan to attend some of the Clubs out west in October and November. We are also going to have a costume party for TGIF on October 30th. Please plan to attend it is going to be a lot of fun, full of ghosts, goblins, and tricks OR treats...whichever you prefer. We will have Fall Ceremonial on November 7th, I hope we get to bring in a lot new Nobles. We will be offering the table decorations for purchase again, as a fund raiser, they will be fall themed and if you decide to purchase one I am sure they will look great in your home. We also have the Veterans’ Day Parade and the Salina Parade of Lights in November. We hope to see you this fall at some of the events that are coming up. Thank you for all that you do through Isis Shriners. A special thank you to Nobles Donnie and Darrin Deatherage for providing a dumpster, at no cost, to the Shrine. It was a beautiful day for a clean out, temperatures in the 70’s. Nobles that came to work were: Potentate, Ralph Streit, Chief Rabban Louis Slavik, High Priest and Prophet Tim Fowler, Oriental Guide Mark Smith, Treasure Steve Schomig, Recorder John Gilpin, Art Adams, Chuck Johnson, Larry Gilpin, Jim Ziegelmeier, Terry Philips, Galen Elliott, Ray Earley, Darrell Ryan, Herb Summers, Lyle Turner, Steve Gawith and Jim Winn. Farewell Tour For nearly a year I have been engaged in my farewell tour of the sixties, my birthday is October 15th, if you care to send a card or possibly a gift. (I prefer nuts to chocolate.) Not unlike the other sixty-eight, this year has been a “once in a lifetime” adventure. In the sports world we watched the Kansas City Royals play in the World Series, the McPherson Bullpups win the 4A State Basketball Championship and Jeff Gordon race his final season. In my business world, after thirty-seven years we said goodbye to Wallace Chevrolet and struck out on a bold new venture when Nancy and I purchased Hometown Motors of McPherson. As proud grandparents, we welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Peyton Claire, into our world. If anyone ever wanted to question the existence of God, the miracle of birth should lay that debate to rest. My whirl-wind farewell tour of the sixties has been a great ride. On a very personal note, this has been a year of discovery. As a child, I was raised in a Christian home and taught from an early age that people are saved through faith. But, I have to wonder: “Do I have enough faith?” “Is my faith strong enough to save me?” A lot of us miss the point. It is Christ who saves us, not our feelings or actions. Jesus offers us salvation as a gift because he loves us, not because we have earned it through our powerful faith. Faith is believing and trusting in Jesus Christ. Reaching out to accept his wonderful gift of salvation. Faith is effective whether it is great or small, timid or bold — because God loves us. Romans 4:4,5 When people work, their wages are not a gift. Workers earn what the receive. But people are declared righteous because of their faith, not because of their works Yours in the Faith, Richard Luthi, Chaplain 55 MEMBERS IN RISK OF SUSPENSION 2016 Another year is slowly coming to an end and before we know it 2014 will be over. The following members have not paid their 2013 dues. Please help us in contacting them to avoid suspension. Several letters have been sent to them requesting acknowledgment of payment in getting current in their dues. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
