Sad the Dog Knitting Pattern Pattern by SANDY FUSSELL WALK ER BOOKS Instructions Materials Legs, Body and Head (worked in 1 piece) 8 ply wool 100g cream or bone 8 ply wool small amount of dark brown for 1 ear, eye patch, bottom patch, sewn features Safety nose and eyes 1 set double point 3.00 mm needles 1 spare set double point 3.00 mm needles (for leaving work on spare needles or knitting in a round with 5 needles – see body) Row counter (to make life easy) Washable acrylic or natural wool filler/stuffing Starting at the bottom of one leg, cast on 6 sts. Abbreviations K = Knit KFB = Knit into the front and back of the stitch to increase a stitch K2tog = Knit two stitches together to decrease a stitch P = Purl P2tog = Purl two stitches together to decrease a stitch Rnd = Round Sts = Stitches Rnd 1 – Join round and KFB every st (12sts) Rnd 2 – K all sts Rnd 3 – KFB every st (24 sts) Rnd 4 – K all sts Rnd 5 – (KFB,K3) x 6 (30 sts) K 30 rounds without shaping. Legs are folded up to create paws. Alternatively, if no fold over, K 20 rounds only. Shape top of leg for crutch Rnd 36 – KFB, K28, KFB (32 sts) Rnd 37 – K all sts Rnd 38 - KFB, K30, KFB (34 sts) Rnd 39 – K all sts Rnd 40 - KFB, K32, KFB (36 sts) Leave this work on spare needles and knit another leg following these instructions. Body Join the legs into one round, making sure the increased sts on each leg meet in the centre to form the crutch (72 sts). The beginning of this round will be the centre back. At this point, I find it easier to knit in a round with 5 needles, the stitches divided into 4 needles of 36 stitches. Stuff legs and body. Rnd 24 – (K2tog,K2) x 2 (6 sts) Muzzle Break yarn and pull thread through loop Cast on 30 sts Rnd 1 to 5 – K all sts Rnd 6 – (K2tog K3) x 6 (24 sts) Rnd 7 – K all sts Rnd 8 – (K2tog) X 12 (12 sts) Muzzle - Affix nose to muzzle and pin into place to Tail Cast on 11 sts Join round and K 20 rounds Cast off Rnd 9 – (K2tog) x 6 (6 sts) Break yarn and pull thread through loop Cast on 24 sts Join round and K 25 rounds guide where to place eyes. Affix muzzle as part of head below. Head - Position eye patch under eye and affix eyes. Sew patch. Sew head closed. Sew muzzle to head. Embroider under muzzle. Arms – Stuff lightly and stitch in place. One catch stitch to hold to body if like. Bottom patch Cast on 6 sts Arms (Make 2) Stuff head. Using a piece of wool and starting from the centre back, thread a drawstring through the neck ending at centre back. Pull in so head and body look as per picture and tie. Sew threads in. Row 1 – P all sts Row 2 - KFB, K4, KFB (8 sts) Ears - Stitch in place. One catch stitch to hold bent over if preferred. Tail – Stuff gently and stitch in place.
