About IIMN
Indian Institute of Management Nagpur was announced and finalized by the Government of India in late 2014 as
part of its attempts to increase the availability of top-class management expertise and education in different
part of the country. IIM Nagpur started functioning from July 2015, under the guidance and mentorship of Indian
Institute of Management Ahmedabad - one of the top institutes of management in India and the Asia-Pacific. IIM
Nagpur is currently located within the campus of VNIT Nagpur which offers an excellent campus learning
environment. It would move to its own campus later. As a new generation IIM, IIM Nagpur aims to innovatively
address the needs of a modern India, connecting aspirations and realities to attain benchmarks that are
respected internationally.
About PGP
The first batch of Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management at IIMN commenced from 23rd July 2015. Like a
PGP from older IIMs, IIMN's PGP (equivalent to MBA) is a two year, full time, residential programme. At IIMN, it
aims to create leaders, managers and entrepreneurs with strong conceptual foundations and analytical rigour
rooted in a sound understanding of the socio-economic context, regardless of the sector they work in, be it
business, not-for-profit, government-related or the social sector. PGP at IIMN was specifically designed by a core
group of IIM Ahmedabad experts, keeping in mind the current socio-economic context and need for professional
management and leadership in the immediate future. Strong inputs were also available from a just concluded
review of PGP at IIMA, many elements of which are currently being implemented at IIMA from 2015-16. With this
backdrop, the PGP at IIMN seeks to create strong leaders, managers and potential entrepreneurs for a resurgent
India in a global economy.
Outwardly, the design of PGP at IIMN resembles a typical IIM PGP with two years of coursework around an 8-week
summer internship at the end of the first year. The first year consists of core courses covering all functional areas
of management, ethics and the social context. The second year offers electives and projects to allow students to
pursue their own intended areas of specialization.
Specifically at IIMN, some innovative elements have been introduced within the above structure. The first set,
Field Immersions, lasting a total of 4-5 weeks in two segments, provides all students with a live on-the-ground
experience in small and medium organizations, and start-ups. Of the two segments, one is necessarily in the
business sector and one is in the not-for-profit sector for each student. Apart from knowing the ground realities,
these help the students to conceptually merge the nimble and innovative of systems in SMEs with extensive
management systems of large organizations that they often go to during summer internships. Second, a
carefully selected set of cross-functional courses enhance learning by breaking down artificial functional
boundaries. They make it easier for the student to address real-life organizational issues through multiple
conceptual lenses in an integrated manner. Third, delivery of all courses is anchored by IIMA faculty members,
but carefully selected instructors are invited from the industry to partially co-teach some courses. These experts
are more than guest speakers and are actively involved with the IIMA co-instructor in both, design and delivery of
the course.
