This young lady is Arlene Limas. It is the 1988 summer
Olympics in Seoul, Korea. She was a senior at Depaul
University. She really wasn’t
expected to do that well. But she
stunned everyone.
In this moment on the right you can see that she just learned she
won the gold medal.
And what comes next must be the greatest moment in the life of any
athlete. As you stand on a podium, they put that medal around your
neck, the flag of your country goes up and the en+re coliseum listens
to your anthem.
But in Arlene’s case, there was a problem with the audio. No song as the flag was being raised.
So do you know what she did? She started to sing. At first it was just one voice, but her
parents were there and they started to sing. And some soldiers were there and they started to
sing and some American tourists were there and they started to sing.
And Arlene started to lead, she even did her hand to the +me of the song. Before long, the
en+re coliseum is singing her song with her.
I love the Old Testament prophet Elijah. Elijah was a man just like us. Don’t get distracted from
the fire falling from heaven or any other miracle. The Bible tells us that this man, with
convic+on and constant prayer, stood up against the flow for God and you can too.
And you just may discover it is libera+ng to break free from the tyranny of the majority and
you may also discover that your courage inspires others to stand with you. How does God start
a revival? One person at a +me with the courage to sing a song that no one else has started.
Maybe he is calling you to sing out the song that He has given you in your heart. Don’t worry
about how you will sound or what others will think. Just sing. We need more Arlene Limas in
our world and more Elijahs to stand when no one else is standing.
So clear your throat. Get up off your feet and stand and sing for God!

Book Look
By MargE DeRuyscher
This month’s library notes are about a gracious lady and the Christian mystery fiction
series books that she has subscribed for as a gift to the church. Ramona Powell has
over the years donated many great book to our Church Library– and she said it gave
her joy. If you’ve not found the several series she has given and is giving the Library,
the books may be found on the far south wall of the Library under “Adult Fiction” .
These books are good reading after a hard day, on a lunch hour, or to while away a
Saturday afternoon if TV sports is not your cup of tea. Nonviolent, the stories are
interesting or amusing puzzles and at times, thought provoking. Ramona’s love for
The Fort shines out in many ways. Buying books of contemporary interest is just one
facet of many services to our congregation.
Missions Ministry Update
By MargE DeRuyscher
At our last Missions Ministry Meeting in January, there was no decision made as to the
March mission of the month– Rapha House was our main concern for February– we
wanted to reach the $2000.00 goal for the first two months of the year. The total for the
two months is $2421.00!
Our emphasis on February’s giving for Rapha House precluded making a mission choice
for March. If we do not meet the goal in February, the Rapha House mission emphasis
will continue for another month. If the $2000.00 offering succeeded, may I suggest we
study the Missions file at the front door and choose a mission to designate as our personal
choice for March– and the Easter offering coming
April 5.
I am going to turn 90 years old in July, and retire from
Missions Ministry. If you have any heart for the Lord’s
work around the world, won’t you consider keeping
Ft. Des Moines Church of Christ a “Missionary
Church”?
Ladies Bible Study is going to start
on March 12th! The morning group
will meet at the Hoodjer home in
Norwalk at 9:30. If you want a ride,
please meet at the church by 9:15.
The evening group will meet at the

Kirk and Ashley Bates invite you to
Sean’s 1st Gotcha Day
Celebration!
It will be held

For Such a Time As This
14th Annual Ladies Retreat at Rising Sun Church of Christ is
Saturday, March 28th from 8:15-3:00. This year’s guest
speaker will be Betty Gray. Betty is a dramatist who captures
the spirit of many of the famous women of the Bible. Have you
ever wondered why you were placed here on earth? Have you
ever felt that God could not possibly take your circumstances
and make anything good from it? Then Queen Esther is for you!
If you want to go, talk to Shannon! You can register online at www.risingsunchurch.org.
