APPLYING FOR KAIST EXCHANGE PROGRAM
2014 KAIST INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL (2014 KISS)
1. Eligibility
Overview
An Inbound Exchange Student is someone from one of our partner institutions who meets the exchange eligibility
requirements. The student will study at KAIST for one or two semesters and pay tuition fees to their home university. If
you wish to study as an exchange student at KAIST, you should first contact the Exchange Coordinator at your home
university. Be sure that your school is in partnership with KAIST. KAIST will only process applications that have been
nominated by the home institution in official partner relationship with KAIST.
2. Inbound Exchange Entry Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of full-time study at a partner university
- GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.0 or better (on a 4.3 point scale) or equivalent
- English Language Proficiency level in accordance with KAIST requirements when English is not the first language
- TOEFL iBT 80 or its equivalent in other English language proficiency test
3. Procedure
A.The partner university selects students for the exchange programs according to the entry requirements and nominates
them for the exchange semester.
B.Nominated students are required to submit the following documents (hard copies) to KAIST International Relations Team.
*Applications sent directly to International Relations Team at KAIST will not be accepted. They should be sent to through
the international office of the students’ home university with the nomination letter from the student coordinator.
• Application Form (printed version with a coordinator’s signature)
• Current original transcript(s)
(All transcripts must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation.)
• Statement of purpose (one page, word processed only)
• Three passport-size photos (write your name on the back of every photo)
(No larger than 55mm x 45mm and not smaller than 50mm x 40mm).
• English Language Proficiency Record (if any)
• Copy of Passport
C.Once the nominated students are finally accepted by the departments at KAIST will send them the admission package
with the certificate of admission.
4. Student Exchange Program Application Deadline
- Academic Year of 2014/15 - Fall Semester: Opens on March 15th - Ends on April 15th, 2014
- Academic Year of 2014/15 - Spring Semester: Opens on September 15th - Ends on October 15th, 2014

The 2014 KAIST International Summer School (KISS) offers a great opportunity for students to enjoy their summer
vacation while pursuing academics at KAIST as well as taking part in extra-curricular and excursion activities. This year,
we are offering classes that emphasize interaction and fundamental skills required by today’s world and knowledgebased economy by offering such courses as the Global Entrepreneurship and utilizing the Education 3.0 Curriculum, an
interactive education system. The Global Entrepreneurship course will allow students to learn about the fundamentals,
infrastructure, and process behind transforming an idea into reality. The Education 3.0 system is revolutionary and
innovative learning program which was developed at KAIST and its focus is to enhance interaction and discussion of a
traditional classroom setting. We believe that the 2014 KAIST KISS Program guarantees an opportunity to learn at one of
the best universities in Korea and a chance to learn and experience the Korean language and culture.

3. Academic Information
Structure
The KISS program offers six different tracks, which consist of one major course (3 credits) and one Korean language and
Korean culture course (2 credits). Students will also have the opportunity to engage in extra-curricular activities and field
trips. All classes have a limit of 30 students.

Applying for
On-campus Housing
IRT will apply for on-campus accommodation for all exchange students based on their application form. The assigned dormitories (room type: double or triple occupancy) for exchange students are furnished with beds, closets, desks and chairs for each room. KAIST will lend you one
pillow and one blanket. Shared facilities include restrooms, showers, washing machines, clothes
dryer, and a lobby on each floor.
