The 19th Student Council of Hotung Secondary School for the current school year was formally inaugurated at the school assembly on Friday 12th November, 2010. In a speech delivered to the senior form schoolmates and teachers, Chan Yuk-ying from 6AC, President of the 19th Student Council ‘Minerva’, pledged that in the coming months, she and the other council members would make every effort to enable all Hotung girls and boys to realize their talents, to nurture a warmer, closer relationship between students and teachers, to arrange a wide range of highly enjoyable activities for all to enjoy, and to better the welfare of their fellow schoolmates. The newly-elected President also explained the meaning of the name chosen for their team and what they think it signifies. Minerva was the Roman goddess of poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts and magic, as well as the inventor of music. To the new SU officials, the word stands for several desirable qualities that they are determined to foster among themselves and translate into action – M for Magnanimous, I for Idealistic, N for Nimble, E for Enthusiastic, R for Respectful, V for Veritable and A for Agile. Principal Ms Wong Yin-ling presents each official with an official lapel pin. The new SU officials pledge to do their very best to further the interests of their fellow schoolmates. Ms Wong expresses her full confidence in the ‘Minerva’ team. The other members of the ‘Minerva’ Student Council include : Yeung Wing-man, Vice-President, from 6CS Wong Lok-ting, Treasurer, from 6AC Lai Yi-oi, Bonnie, Secretary, from 6AC Ho Sze-wing, Secretary, from 5A Chan Kwan-hang, Editor, from 5A Tam Tsz-ching, Public Relations Officer, from 6AC Lau Ah-man, Welfare Officer, from 6AC Yu Lee-kwan, Recreational Officer, from 6AC Chan On-yi, Designer, from 4D Kwok Pui-yu, Designer, from 5C The council was sworn in by the Principal, Ms Wong Yin-ling, at the school assembly. The warm applause given by their fellow Hotung students indicated the latter ’s whole-hearted support for the ‘Minerva’ team. At the school assembly, Dorothy Tsang Tsz-shan, the President of the outgoing ‘Crescendo’ Student Council, and Shing Fung-yuen, the Treasurer, delivered the Yearly Work Report and the Financial Report respectively.
