For the tourist in you! © Benoît Durocher To add to the enjoyment of your visit, we’ve listed a few tourist attractions in the surrounding area likely to be of interest you. However, since we can’t guarantee the reliability of all the information, we suggest you contact the various organizations for any additional information. Public Transport Public transport is a great way to see the city. Hop on the metro and in just 10 minutes you’re at a museum, restaurant or in Old Montreal. Affordable and reliable, the metro can be accessed via the city’s Underground Pedestrian Network: two of the four main lines connect downtown to major tourism sites as well as to numerous bus stops and train stations. Metro operating hours are Monday to Friday and Sunday from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. The average wait time between trains is eight minutes and three minutes during rush hour. Featuring nine stops in each direction, the 747 service is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year between Montreal’s central bus terminal (Berri-UQAM metro station) and Montreal-Trudeau airport. The eight new buses, specially-designed for this service, are easily identified by their airborne look: Buses on the 747 route are equipped with three luggage racks for the convenience of travellers. The $8 fare is payable in cash aboard the bus – coins only, bills are not accepted. It also provides travellers with a transit pass valid on the STM bus and metro network for the next 24 hours. Other public transit fares can also be used for the express service, at no additional cost, including regular and reduced-fare weekly and monthly CAM cards, 1-day and 3-day passes, and monthly TRAM cards, for zones 1 to 8. For more information about public transportation in Montreal, please visit www.stm.info. So much of Montreal's unique past is still visible today – from the place where the city was founded in 1642, to physical evidence of all periods, such as the French colony’s winding paths, remarkable 18th- and 19th-century architecture and the first Canadian skyscrapers. Architectural lighting has made the Old Port and Old Montreal more romantic and charming than ever, highlighting their rich past and the museums, boutiques, sidewalk cafés and public places that are alive with activities all year long. Montreal’s underground city INFORMATION www.montrealkiosk.com/montreal-tour/Underground-City.php A veritable city beneath street level, La Ville souterraine as it’s called in French, contains over 32 kilometres of tunnels, making this indoor city the largest underground complex in the world. The tunnels connect residential complexes, shopping malls, universities, luxury residences and hotels. They also house a wide range of restaurants and shops, from the ultra chic to the moderately priced. In fact, the underground city comprises close to 35% of all commercial space in downtown Montreal. Through the underground network Montrealers can travel from one point to another without having to brave the cold Canadian winter, and shop in the comfort of the indoor city.[1] [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_city,_Montreal Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal INFORMATION www.macm.org GETTING THERE Place-des-arts OPENING HOURS Monday: closed Tuesday to Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. (free entrance from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) Experience a stimulating journey of discovery.
