Applications are also available on line at http://www.schofieldspousesclub.com/ When I look back on 2013, it truly was what most military spouses would call normal. We had several friends PCS, we met several new ones, and through it all, the soldiers deployed, redeployed, deployed and changed jobs in the never ending cycle of the military year. So as I enter February, I think to myself- self, what can you do to make this year extra special, more memorable, make others’ lives vivid. That’s when it hit me- it is not the grandiose gestures that make being a military spouse AWESOME, it is those every day, simple steps. It’s those small steps we take every day: helping that friend who is PCSing, making dinner for a another’s family during hardship or going to a shower for a first time mother far from home to make her day special. This is who we are and why we are awesome. Each of us has the potential to make the life of another spouse FABULOUS without really making that grand gesture. We can all aspire to be better humans and that is what will make 2014 different. In the month that we celebrate love, let’s vow to love one another just a little more. Let’s make a resolution to hug those spouses in need a little tighter, smile at one another more often, and celebrate being the FABULOUS military spouse that we are. Thank you to all the amazing ladies who came out and modeled for the thrift shop fashion show in January. It was an AWESOME show that was truly memorable. Janelle and her committee did a fantastic job. Also a special thanks to Kat Fresh for agreeing to be our MC for the program. As we look to this month’s luncheon, we are honored to share the day with our sisters from the South. This joint luncheon surely promises to be full of all the glamour of Hollywood as we present- Hui at the Oscars. Channel that inner Diva, Meryl Streep, or even Amy Adams and make your reservations today. Lastly, this year I encourage you to try something new as well as making a difference in your community. You can do this by volunteering at our amazing thrift shop or even consider running for a board position to help guide the Hui next fall. Both are amazing opportunities to help our community grow and flourish but are just small steps that have BIG dividends. When sent to the grog bowl, one should do the following: 1. Rise and state “Madam Vice, a point of order” Proceed to the bowl in a spousely fashion, straight and to the point. 2. When recognized by the Vice, identify yourself and state your business. Salute the grog in the appropriate manner. 3. It is tradition to offer flattering words to the President, Madam Vice and Judges to sway your cause. Bribes may be considered. Fill the cup at least a couple of drops. The Boy Scouts of America will be our February charity. Scouting in Hawaii has a long history, from the 1900s to the present day, serving thousands of youth in programs that suit the unique environment in which they live. Troop 24 of Schofield Barracks has been in existence for over 80 years. The mission of the Boy Scouts is developing leaders for life. Boy Scouts prove themselves in an environment that challenges their courage and tests their nerve. After they've been given the proper guidance from those with experience and know-how, they take their own lead, going places they've never gone, seeing things they've never seen, and diving into the rugged world of outdoor adventure, relying on teamwork and character to accomplish what everyone else thinks is impossible. Troop meetings are generally held every Monday from 1830 to 2100 at the Schofield Barracks Scout Hut. If your child is interested in joining Troop 24 or looking for other information please email [email protected] Donations of camp kitchen supplies and cleaning supplies have been requested. Mahalo!
