Kia ora,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. Three day weekends are so much better than two day weekends!!
Tomorrow we head off to Otawhiwhi Marae in Bowentown. Please ensure your child is dressed in uniform.
We aim to leave school at 9.15am and return by 2.30pm. Thank you to whanau who are attending and supporting
this day. Everyone is welcome to join us, if you have a free hour, come on down. A mufti day with sausage sizzle
will be held this week to help pay for the bus and costs involved with this opportunity, with other mufti days/
sausages sizzles happening over the term. Thank you for your support.
Classes are getting organized for the Twilight market. Class stalls include art work, fudge, seedlings, fun in
a bag, games and activities. Please let your friends and whanau know about this exciting evening. Flyers will be out
in the community in the near future. Keep the 19th of November free!
Tomorrow we celebrate the graduation of Arama, Devon and Lennox from Kaihautu. Kaihautu is a leadership
programme organized by Harley North and Kylie Finch (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour). We
congratulate our lads on their efforts and development over the two terms and pass on our thanks to all tutors/
people involved in making a difference for tamariki across the Waihi community.
The Board of Trustees are looking for whanau who would like to support keeping the pool open for the
summer holidays. Last summer we had an amazing team who opened/closed the pool, and completed all testing
requirements. If you are available to help, please let us know. We do like having the pool open for your use.
This term we are trialing the ICONZ programme with our year 5-6 lads. Iconz is a programme that runs in
communities, which is operated by local churches. They have a blokey culture where the men, who are good mates,
share their life skills with a new generation of kiwi blokes with the purpose of inspiring them to become kiwi
Icons. We aim to run three mornings this term, and depending on the outcome, widen this programme to other
year groups. Notes were sent home last week, please return these if you would like your child to attend.

Mufti Day this Friday 30th October. All money raised will

SAUSAGE SIZZLE JUICIE COMBO
Team East Whanau are holding a sausage sizzle and juicie
sale this Friday 30th October. $4 for a combo. Please fill in
the slip. Orders must be returned to the office tomorrow
(Wednesday 28th October).
WANTED—2ND HAND CHILDRENS CLOTHING
We would love to receive your good quality clean second
hand children’s clothing to pass onto others. Donations

WAIHI JUNIORS FUN SOCCER
Waihi Beach Littlies Soccer is not able to run this year, so
Bonnie has organised to run the same event, but here at
Waihi East School. Thanks Bonnie!

CANCER SOCIETY SLIP, SLOP, SLAP TIPS
From now through to the end of April between 10am &
4pm, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays are at their most intense. Here are a few tips to help with sun protection for
you and your whanau:

Broad brimmed or bucket style hats offer the most
protection to the neck, ears and face

It’s a great idea to wear cool, protective clothing
covering as much skin as possible

Slop on some SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen
on any skin not covered by clothes
Sunscreen is provided and available in all classrooms for
daily use. If special sunscreen is required for your child,
you are welcome to supply this in a named container.
How Can You Help Workshops for Term 4
Would you like to know practical ways you can help your
children at home with their maths, reading and writing?
Mrs. Laing is offering a couple of practical, hands on
workshops to equip you to be super supportive of your
children’s learning. They will be run after school with
some activities and food for you children to enjoy while
the workshop runs.
So if you are interested, return the slip on the next page
to Sharon in the office or text Mrs. Laing on 0274 338
821. We need a minimum of 5 families to attend, so get
your friends on board, let us know your preferences and
watch this space!

The Dream Giver sneaks into my room in the
dark of night. He brings golden dream eggs.
I start to dream….. I dream of a delicious
cupcake land. In cupcake land, I see Mr and
Mrs Liquorice. They give me a soft and
sweet cupcake bed. I fall straight asleep. I
wake up and say “Thank You”. I wake up in my own bed
and run downstairs and tell Mum and Dad what happened! They say “Wow, that is an amazing dream Bella!”

Well in one and a half weeks I'm going to Brisbane Australia to see
my Mum and her boyfriend. They have two dogs and they’re boys,
Bluey and Larry. Mum and Adam foster dogs—they’re fostering a
puppy now. Mum and Adam are really sporty, they go for 5k walks
every day with the dogs, they go to the gym, and eat healthily. I will
be going for 5k walks too. My Mum is really short. I will be able to fit
her shoes and clothes that she doesn't fit anymore-yay! My Mum has
lived in Australia for 7 years now. I haven’t seen her in 7 years. The
things we’re going to do are: go to Dream World, Sea World, Wet ‘n
Wild and something else-we’re going shopping heaps. I have about
200 hundred dollars in Australian money, I’ve been saving for a long
time. I cant wait yay! My Mum can’t
wait either. I’ve never meet my
Mum’s boyfriend. This is the first
time I have ever been on a plane
and I’m going on the plane alone.

PAEROA LIONS ANNUAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY

This year an international troupe of skateboarders will be
