For all fete enquiries please contact the fete committee via Heather Kettle at [email protected] FETE COMMITTEE UPDATE Plans are well underway for a spectacular fete on Saturday 31 October! Contact Amy Seath – [email protected] Wood-Fired Pizza Stall @TurnerFete Operated by the Turner Dads™ Since 2015 Okay, we admit it’s our first try The Turner Dads™, led by locally renowned pizza makers Percy Bell and Geoff Kushnick, are looking to do their part at this year’s Turner Fete by selling a range of tasty pizzas, wood-fired in a trailer-hitch oven. But, we need generous members of our community to help the cause. We’d love to hear from you if you can provide a helping hand before or during the Fete, or would like to make a donation of materials, or a straight up cash donation to help with the cost of the oven rental. Please call Percy Bell at 0415 260 805. Time for a spring clean! Spring has sprung! So take the opportunity this school holidays to get rid of the old and make plenty of room for the new! We are seeking donations of clean, good quality: summer & winter clothes belts, bags, shoes and hats brand name womenswear kids’ dress-ups PLEASE no undies, socks, bras; or anything stained, damaged or worn out! Please contact Pip if you would like to help sort donations or help with the stall. [email protected] WHITE ELEPHANT STALL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Helpers are needed at the fabulous White Elephant stall. Come join the fun - no stall offers more variety and excitement! To register your interest call Chris on: 0400591771 or email [email protected] DONATIONS ACCEPTED SOON… FACE PAINTING The face painting stall is seeking volunteers to offer one or two hours of their time on fete day! No prior experience is necessary as we provide booklets of face painting designs that are simple to reproduce. If you're keen to help out please contact Mem Wilson: [email protected] Reclaim the Sizzle! Stand tall parents, your school needs you! Bunnings, Masters and many other great pretenders have been stealing from your children with their ‘community BBQ program’. Sure sausage sizzles are not as glamorous as face painting, as cool as side show alley or creative as a mobile pizza oven; but all we need from you is about half an hour at the end of some tongs, occasional feedback on how cooked the sausages look and a great big smile. Let’s reclaim the sizzle, and show those corporate thugs a thing or two about community! If you can handle the pressure email [email protected]. Boxes The fete needs your packing boxes or any large boxes. Please deliver to the donation collection area in the multipurpose room from Monday 14 September. Thanks! The Bike Stall The bike stall needs your unused, unwanted, outgrown bikes! If you have a bike that you would like to donate to the school fete now is the time to drop it off. To arrange drop off please get in contact with the store convenor, Stuart Jones, [email protected] or 0402 494 171 CAKE STALL Calling for Volunteers to work on the Day Our cake stall was a great success last year so all families of Turner School students and are again invited to bake cakes, slices, biscuits, cupcakes, muffins etc to be sold on the cake stall at this year’s fete. We are also hoping to attract lots of volunteers to help on the day so we can limit the time on the stall to around 1 hour which will leave you with plenty of time to also enjoy the fete with your children. We will provide details about how the cakes should be presented and ingredients that are not permissible, e.g. fresh cream closer to the fete. In the meantime if you wish to volunteer early or can offer any other help please contact me by e-mail - [email protected] Convenor Diane Jones CRAFT STALL I am looking forward to seeing the wonderful craft ideas from parents and teachers that we will be selling at the stall this year. To encourage and inspire you, I will list some ‘Handy Hints’ in the next few newsletters to spark that creativity that is hiding in all of us! There will be a drop off box available shortly on the David Street side of the school. I am still looking for additional helpers on the day. Please do not hesitate to grab me for a chat or I can be contacted on 0412 140 332 or email [email protected] Keep crafting! Jodi Wood Pricing craft items It is difficult to put a price on hand crafted items – it is very rare that you get back what you have put in. If you have a good idea what you would hope your items would sell for, could you please include this when you drop them off. Have a look at Pinterest or Etsy to find a comparable item. But please remember – this is a school fete and we need to be realistic about what people will pay. If you think you might have a product that is high end, it may be worthwhile contacting the fete coordinator to see if it should be included in a raffle rather than sold at the stall. Upcycling Upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful. For example, unraveling a wire clothes hanger to break into your car to rescue your keys is NOT upcycling. Stretching out a wire clothes hanger then tying strips of Christmas fabric and beads around it to make a wreath IS upcycling! We welcome all donations of potted plants, pots, potting mix etc and now is a great time to start taking cuttings to pot up. All plants are welcome, but particularly vegetable seedlings, succulents/cacti and flowering plants. You can drop plants off at the Environment Centre at any time, but please let us know when you do so that we can make sure they are looked after. Please contact Warrick ([email protected] or 0431 968 341) if you can help out. Book Stall Donations and Helpers Needed The Book Stall warmly welcomes donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs of all kinds. Kids’, adults’, fiction, non-fiction, comics, pretty much anything as long as it’s in good condition (yes, we’ll even take those embarrassing copies of Fifty Shades of Grey off your hands – no questions asked). BUT, please no VHS video tapes, computer manuals or half-used colouring books. Please package your donations into small, sturdy boxes or bags – not too heavy! We also need helpers to set up and work on the stall on the day, as well as help with sorting in the weeks before the Fete. All ages are very welcome so bring the whole family along. Contact Tina at [email protected] Adopt-a-Teddy Are you looking for a new furry friend? Come and give a teddy a new home by adopting a teddy at the fete this year. All adopted teddies come with their very own adoption certificate. Visit the Teddy Hospital Have you got a furry friend who may be feeling a bit ill? Has a broken bone? A sore head? Bring them along on fete day and get them checked out and bandaged up by our ‘qualified’ doctor. Donations needed: good condition furry friends that need a new home. There’s always one or two hidden in that pile in the cupboard that can be parted with!
