Flawless MMA "The Beginning" Results Written by Edward Walz Sunday, 05 August 2012 13:11 Flawless MMA "The Beginning" transpired at the UIC Forum, in Chicago, IL, on Saturday. The highly anticipated match up, between Oliver Petrovski (Macedonia) and Gilbert Grappling's Adam Ward was by far the fight of the night! The crowd during this fight was amazing, with a huge following present for Petrovski chanting Macedonia throughout the contest. Ward dominated the fight, using his speed to land strikes and exhibited superior wrestling. Ward was able to stuff an early takedown attempt by Petrovski, with Petrovski unable to take Ward down; it would be a long night for Petrovski. The two fighters seemed content to slug it out on their feet, which delighted the fans. The fighters exchanged heavy punches throughout the contest. In the third round, Ward landed a short elbow to the face of Petrovski, which was similar to tapping a keg, blood just poured out of Petrovski. Petrovski was instantly bothered by the cut and verbally submitted. This was one of my favorite fights of the year! The fighters exhibited overwhelming heart, intensity and determination in this contest! Congratulations to both fighters, which were true warriors! Take a look at how Adam Ward finished the fight! In the main event, Egidijus Valavicius (Lithuania), wasted no time in defeating Eric Hammerich. Hammerich scored an early takedown and worked in the full guard of Valavicius. Valavicius remained poised and waited for his opportunity. When it arose, Valavicius went for the armbar and rolled to his stomach. Hammerich tried to defend but Valavicius dropped a couple of punches and secured the armbar. Hammerich had to tap out, giving the victory to Valavicius. 1/4 Flawless MMA "The Beginning" Results Written by Edward Walz Sunday, 05 August 2012 13:11 Gilbert Grappling's Kenny Jordan kept his undefeated record unblemished with a dominant victory over Andrew Bowers. Jordan used a takedown and inflicted some ground and pound prior to Bowers giving up his back and submitting to the rear naked choke. Jordan continues to impress me as an amateur and appears to be on another level! I don't think it will be too long before he ventures into the professional ranks. Matt Wilcox and David Gallegos battled for 3 rounds, with Wilcox getting the unanimous decision victory. The two battled back and forth exchanging on their feet and on the ground in this exciting amateur fight. In the first Professional fight, it was the ladies entering the cage. Lisa McCallan (England) used a barrage of leg kicks for three rounds to keep Maria Messer (Logan, OH, via Brazil) off balance, and making it difficult to use her reach advantage. Messer was able to land numerous punches, but was unable to inflict any major damage in the contest. Hamilton, Canada's .Ryan Dickson was impressive with his first round victory over Jason Graves. Dickson caught a low kick by Graves and was able to take him down to the mat. Dickson worked to side control then to mount, causing Graves to give up his back. Dickson quickly sunk in the rear naked choke to move to 4-0 in his professional career. In a close second to fight of the night, Maurice Greene and Ed Carpenter battled for three rounds. Carpenter had the top position frequently but Greene appeared to do more damage with punches and elbows. Greene was able to use his long reach while on his feet landing numerous strikes. After three close rounds Maurice Greene was announced as the split decision winner. After the fight, some debating seem to take place with the officials. Flawless ring announcer Ray Flores announced to the crowd that a mistake had been made and Carpenter was named the victor. Later in the night, it was discovered that Greene actually was awarded the victory on the judges score cards. This was quite confusing but it was no fault of Flawless MMA, who was left in a precarious situation even though they have no control over the judges, as it is regulated by the state of Illinois. I do feel bad for both fighters for being put on an emotional roller coaster! Jake O'Brien used his strong wrestling to control Miodrag Petkovich. O'Brien was able to keep busy and avoid getting stood up and was awarded the unanimous decision victory. The judges 2/4 Flawless MMA "The Beginning" Results Written by Edward Walz Sunday, 05 August 2012 13:11 scored it (30-27, 30-27, and 30-25). Numerous people including myself were perplexed by the 30-25 decision but ultimately, it wasn't a factor in deciding the fight. Flawless put on a good show, even though it had to deal with numerous changes with the card. The next card will once again be one that shouldn't be missed! Thank you to Seng for his hospitality and for bringing more great fights to the Chicagoland area!!
