During the first week of February as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week we are reminded of the Catholic principles, values and foundations at SMS that help foster an environment for growth, love, and learning for all of us! A special thank you goes to the parents and children who spoke about how SMS influences their lives during all the Catholic Schools Week Masses. Our children are so blessed to have an education that combines Catholic faith and teachings with academic excellence. We are excited to share another great kickoff during Catholic Schools Week, the kickoff and planning of the 55th Anniversary of Saint Mary School. This special day will be celebrated on Friday, November 25, 2016. Save the date and please help us spread the word. A full day of events are being planned: Open House and Tour of the School by our Student Leadership Team: 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM, Homecoming and Anniversary Mass with music provided by the Cherubim and Seraphim Choirs: 5:00 PM, Cocktails and Hors d ‘Oeuvres at 6:00 PM and a Gala Dinner beginning at 7:00 PM. More details will be forthcoming by the Parish Social Media Team. HASA is also pleased to announce the formation of a prayer group called Moms in Touch. This gathering of moms will meet for 20 minutes after the First Friday 9AM Mass in the Chapel. Moms in Touch will foster a community of prayer helping moms develop their spirituality and pray for the students, faculty, staff and parents of SMS. The prayer sessions will be guided. Please come and join us Friday, February 5th. We have two HASA sponsored social events coming up that you won’t want to miss. Our Family Bingo Night was rescheduled due to the January snowstorm and we are in the process of planning our First Annual Adult Trivia Night. Please refer to the flyers included in this month’s newsletter for more details. WHEN: February 25th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM If you find yourself in this situation please do not hesitate to contact our HASA Chair Virginia McElroy at [email protected]. We have volunteers available to assist you through this tough time, there is no need to try and do without or alone. WHERE: St. Mary School Café. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Father Kean. He will be speaking on ‘Ways Parents Can Involve Their Children in Lent.’ Interesting in volunteering for this wonderful ministry? This rewarding volunteer ministry requires no formal training, just the ability to prepare and deliver a meal. The time commitment is very flexible and varies based on your availability. Volunteers are selected from the neighborhoods closest to the individual or family in need, and meals can be delivered at your convenience. Babysitting will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there! If interested in volunteering please contact Virginia McElroy at [email protected] or [email protected] St. Mary CYO 8th Grade Appreciation Night. This team will work together to generate and support comprehensive grants from corporations, foundation and individuals. We are locally blessed with dozens of companies and foundations that are willing to provide financial support to schools and organizations that apply for these grants. Awarded grants will provide new educational programs in the areas of Science, Math, Physical Education and the School Library. Work closely with Mr. Conwell and the Faculty of St. Mary’s to review available grants. Assist SMS faculty by providing a listing of available programs available for grant application. All grants are applied for via written letters or on-line applications, therefore volunteers for this team will need to have strong written communication skills.
