LETTER FROM THE HASA BOARD
Dear St. Sebastian Families,
Thank you for coming to our First HASA meeting on September 3. We truly appreciate the
show of support. We hope that you were able to garner some information about how we plan
on proceeding with this organization and to help build that ever-important bridge between
our school and families.
Thank you for the comments, questions and suggestions. We want to assure you that we are
looking into all issues, and will be working hard toward resolutions. We are open and ready
to work with you to ensure that this year will be a wonderful year for our school, families and
most importantly our children.
We are excited in the possibilities that this year will bring but as with everything, we will
need your help in accomplishing them. Any amount of TIME that you can volunteer is vital
in making this HASA thrive.
We look forward to seeing you at all of our future meetings.
Sincerely,
Your HASA Executive Board

All About HASA
Our Mission Statement
HASA, guided by our Catholic faith and traditions, supports the
mission of St. Sebastian School by fostering communication, building community,
and enhancing the educational experiences of the students.
HASA fosters communication by:
- Holding meetings to update parents about what is happening in the school and give parents a chance to
bring their ideas to the table
- Publishing a monthly online newsletter full of helpful information about the school and upcoming events
HASA builds community by:
- Sponsoring the Monster Mash Mother-Son Halloween Dance
- Coordinating Santa Shop so that children can buy gifts for their families for Christmas
- Having fun family nights throughout the school year
- Recruiting parent volunteers to help with various events and projects
- Sponsoring the Father-Daughter Dance
- Organizing Teacher-Parent prayer partners for the year
- Providing appreciation gifts and meals to the staff
HASA enhances the educational experiences of the students by:
- Purchasing needed items for the school for which the school may lack funds
- Providing each teacher with a stipend to purchase items for their classroom
- Stocking a supply closet for the teachers with common supplies that they need
- Helping to fund special projects such as refurbishing school bathrooms
Fundraising
Funds needed to support the mission of HASA are generated through only two
fundraisers: The first is Go Cards, a reusable discount card created especially for
St. Sebastian school that can be purchased by family and friends. The second is
the annual Walk-a-Thon which is an activity packed day for the students
including a walk. Each family is asked to provide names of family and friends
so that sponsorship letters can be sent out.

Getting Involved
None of this can be accomplished without YOU! Parent volunteers and teachers are vital to accomplishing the mission of
HASA and we are grateful for any time you can give. Please visit our website and contact us if you are interested in helping out or if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

5th Annual
Race Around the Park 5K
and Family Fun Run
(Registration Forms attached)
More HASA News
Proceeds from the 5th Annual Knights of Columbus 5K Race Around the Park will directly benefit
your KIDS! This year’s event, scheduled for Saturday,
November 14, will help fund St. Sebastian after-school
programming. Robotics Club, Power of the Pen, MATHCOUNTS, Science Olympiad, Drama Club, Lego Club,
Youth Ministry, and Student Council are just a few of the
many terrific programs offered after school at St. Sebastian.
As in year’s past, the event will feature the Kids
Challenge. Each student registered and who participates
in either the 5k race or 1-mile fun run will have their
miles tallied for their grade. The grade with the most
miles recorded, regardless of walking, jogging or running
wins an in-school pizza party provided by the Knights of
Columbus. HASA is giving an exercise spirit stick to the
first 100 students who register.
HASA encourages you, your friends and family to join us
and the Knights on race day. Young or old and no matter if you run, jog or walk, the 5K Race Around the Park
event has something the entire family will enjoy; music,
food, beverages, entertainment, face painting and more.
Tech shirts are available for all 5k race participants.
Finishing awards will be provided for top overall and age
group runners.
Enclosed in this newsletter is the Kids Challenge and 5k
race mail-in registration forms. Complete and return to
your homeroom teacher with appropriate payment or
simply visit the Knights online at www.akronkofc.org to
register. Deadline for discounted registration is November 1. Contact R. Tony Burgoyne at 330.805.7628 with
questions and sign up today to support our Kids.

night for everyone involved. $10 for every mummy

New this year is a St. Sebastian Prayer Partner initiative sponsored by HASA. Each family that signs up
will receive a prayer card with a specific staff member to pray for throughout the school year. Each
staff member who signs up will receive a prayer card
that can assist them in praying for the families of the
school. Periodic e-mails will also be sent out with
other prayer ideas and encouragement. If you would
like to participate please contact Jennifer Sullivan at
[email protected].
Ohio Catholic
Credit Union
The Ohio Catholic Credit Union (OCCU) visits
St. Sebastian Parish School the second Tuesday of
the month. The kids may make deposits to their
accounts before school starts (approximately 7:50
am by the school office). This is a great way to start
teaching your child about banking! An account
must be already established. Call the OCCU at
330-733-6002 and ask about their programs.
SPIRIT WEAR ORDER FORM

apologize for the error. First orders are due by October 2nd. Another order will be placed in November. Check online
