President’s Letter, January 2015
Fellow Stitchers:
I hope everyone had a wonderful time over the Holidays. Now it’s time
to welcome 2015 with resolutions to finish all of those projects that
we’ve started – or maybe you’re like me and you’ll just keep starting
new ones. Last year I surprised myself and I actually finished my UFO.
So who knows, maybe I’ll surpass that goal this year. As long as I keep
stitching something, I’ll be happy.
We have a lot to look forward to for the rest of this year. Our “Special
Event” is coming up in March. Check the inside of the newsletter for
details on this. We’re going to try something different after our morning
meeting in January. We’re going to have lunch at Ladue Chapel and
have a stitch-in there in the afternoon. Several members are bringing
food in – chili and salad are planned so far, so maybe someone else
can supply some desserts – so bring in something to drink and join us.
We will not be having an evening meeting in January. We’ll see how
this works out and maybe do this lunch/stitch-in thing more often.
We also have some members offering to host stitch-ins during the year
instead of just during the summer months. People seem to really be
enjoying our social events.
We are looking for some members to step forward and volunteer to
serve on the Board. If you are interested in giving a small portion of
your time back to your Chapter and working with a great group of
people, please contact Charlene Wall. I promise you that you won’t
regret it. This is my sixth year on the Board and I have made some
wonderful friends in those years.
I hope to see you at the meetings or events this year.

Debbie Jacobson
Maureen Clever

Barb Smith
Dawna Freeland
Michelle Smith
Please mail your checks to me – Kathryn Nagy, 284 River Valley Dr. Chesterfield, MO
63017 – by Feb. 1st. Since we do not send out bills for Chapter Dues much effort is put
into reminding members of when their dues are needed: this newsletter, an email, snail mail
and a phone call if needed. After that point a member may be dropped from the roll.
Checks should be made payable to Gateway Chapter-ANG. If you give your check to
another board member please let me know. It saves a lot of confusion.
Also, please make sure your National ANG membership is current. You cannot be a member of the
Gateway Chapter if you do not belong to the National ANG organization. Except for your initial
membership payment, National ANG dues are paid directly to National Headquarters. You should receive a
notice from them shortly before that payment is due.

What else are you going to do on a cold Winter day?
!
January 15th
meeting, lunch & stitch
We are going to try something different after our January morning meeting.
Instead of leaving immediately afterward, we are going to have lunch at Ladue
Chapel and stay for a stitch-in. Several of our members have volunteered to
bring food – chili and salad – and paper plates and bowls and plastic spoons, etc.
We have the room for the entire day, so we are going to use it. There will not
be an evening meeting in January. Please come out and join us (weather
permitting, of course). If this works out, we will do it again
Come join the fun!

GATEWAY CHAPTER SPECIAL EVENT 2015
In lieu of a Spring Workshop, the Gateway Chapter is hosting a “Special Event” on Sunday,
March 22, 2015, at The Needlepoint Clubhouse. This “Event” is a wonderful one day class taught
by our own Debbie Jacobson. The project is called “Sarah’s Pillow” and it was designed by
Debbie’s late daughter, Sarah, who also was a member of our Chapter.
This is a two-color project, with one large initial in the center stitched in padded, ruched silk
ribbon, and with a bargello background stitched with several differently textured threads. Every
student’s pillow will be different, with different initials and different colors and threads. The cost of
this project to the student will be only the cost of the threads. The Chapter will cover the cost of
the canvas, and Judy Harper has graciously volunteered to paint the initials. The Needlepoint
Clubhouse is hosting the event at no cost to the Chapter.
The class is going to be limited to 20 students. Students must have their canvases painted and
threads chosen before the class. Debbie will be available to help with the choice of threads from
March 1 through March 21.
A larger version of this class was taught at The Needlepoint Clubhouse and some of you have
already seen Chapter members stitching on their projects. These projects are really awesome.
Once you have stitched one, you will want to do more. The Board members want to thank Debbie
for sharing this beautiful piece with our members.
Please note class will be with one initial only

Stitching the Ort Box Pocket Sides and UFO Challenge Progress and Valentine Bargello
In January we will discuss and answer questions regarding the ort box pocket sides (area 5).
We will also show progress on our UFO (unfinished objects) so please bring your work or
finished piece (if you are an overachiever) to share with the group. Please remember there is
no evening meeting in January.
In February we will take a break from the ort box and stitch a vibrant and fun heart bargello.
The pattern for this is totally free and I will bring copies to both the Jan. and Feb. meetings.
Please bring your supplies and we can all stitch together in February. If you want to check
out the link for the bargello, here it is:

As always, any questions about the projects can be directed to Mary Brooke at the
numbers/email below.
Thanks!

Philanthropy Project
Our first Philanthropy Holiday Party was a HUGE
SUCCESS and I want to send out a HUGE
THANK YOU to all who participated. We
collected a total of $400.00. All of the donations
will be used to purchase books by our adopted
kindergarten teacher, Jennifer. She is thrilled with
the books everyone contributed for their 'entry fee',
and she is so excited to be making her latest
purchases for her classroom.
If you weren't able to attend, we missed you and
hope you will be able to attend next time.
It is never too late to contribute to a wonderful
cause. Donations will be accepted at all ANG
meetings, cash or checks (made out to ANG) or be
mailed directly to Donna Hindin. No amount is
too small, it adds up very quickly.
Thank you, again.
