Mid-Plains Community College’s newest custom car project a ’67
Camaro RS 350/350 will be on display at the Sutherland parade and then at the Grant Car Show on Friday, July 4. This
year’s hotrod, generously donated by Lorna Bouzek in memory
of her son, Troy Bouzek, sports a completely rebuilt 350 motor
and turbo 350 automatic transmission under the hood. The sleek
black interior allows the “Just Yellow” paint, Redline tires and
Rally wheels to steal the show. The North Platte Community College Foundation offers the tickets for $10 each and will only sell
6,000. The drawing for the car will take place during the Colonel Cody Show and Shine Car show in downtown North Platte in
September. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to purchase
the next project and the remaining profit is returned to the students in the form of scholarships. Last year the college gave out
$7,500 in scholarships. The car will be in McCook in early August.
4TH OF JULY TRAVELING
An estimated 41 million Americans are expected to drive 50
miles or more from home over the Fourth of July weekend, according to AAA Travel. That’s up nearly 2 percent from last
Fourth of July and almost 14 percent, or about 5 million people,
more than during this year’s Memorial Day weekend. “People
feeling good about the economy is a key factor,” said Rose
White, a spokeswoman for AAA Nebraska. Also a factor in Midlanders’ travel plans is the plethora of festivals, fireworks displays and other events scheduled around the region. The Fourth
of July holiday typically is one of the busiest travel holidays of
the year. Travel volume for Independence Day has grown in
four of the past five years and is expected to be more than 6
percent higher than the average for the past 10 years. AAA
defines the Fourth of July holiday travel period as today
through July 6. The majority of travelers about eight in 10 are
expected to travel by vehicle this year. Here are some things to
keep in mind when hitting the road. The average price of regular gas nationally has climbed to $3.68 a gallon, the highest
average for the Fourth of July since 2008. That’s also 20 cents
higher than the national average last July 4. The good news in
Nebraska is that the average price for the same fuel grade is

A dozen citations were issued in the final
weekend of Nebraskaland Days, including
one for sale of alcohol to a minor for former Husker quarterback Ronnie Kellogg III.
Kellogg was seen by a security guard
handing Jenna Torres, 19, from North
Platte, a can of beer around 10:45 p.m.
during the Lady Antebellum concert Friday, said Rodney Brown, spokesperson for
the North Platte Police Department. The
two were standing near the front of the
Wild West Arena floor. Brown said officers were contacted by security guards
regarding the matter. Torres was cited for
