SPIRIT WEEK AT MCC
The McCook Community College men’s and women’s basketball
teams will host rival squads from North Platte Tuesday for the final
home games this season at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. In addition to the action on the court, several campus groups and
organizations will be involved in a variety of “Spirit Week” activities. Tuesday’s doubleheader is set to start at 5:30 p.m. with the
women’s match followed by the men. MCC’s Phi Theta Kappa is
hosting “Disability Night” which has involved several groups including PTK, Phi Beta Lambda, MCC’s college success class, athletic
teams, and community organizations including “Walk In My Shoes”
and “Community Chest.” The McCook Rotary Club, celebrating its
111th anniversary will be MCC’s special guests in the VIP room during the game. The MCC Student Senate has designated the week
“Spirit Week” which includes Super Hero Monday, Blue and White
Tuesday, Wacky/Switch Day Wednesday and Twin Day Thursday
in addition to a formal dance Thursday night. A sophomore king and
queen will be determined as part of a student vote. In addition to
selling the “Walk In My Shoes” shirts, PTK will sell MCC pom-poms.
Signed basketballs from the MCC men’s and women’s teams are up
for silent auction and PTK in conjunction with Community Chest are
having free-throw shooting contests and half-time of both games. All
the proceeds from shirts and other items will be donated to Community Chest and will remain with local agencies to help with adults
and children with disabilities.

Community Hospital is excited to announce the 2016 Concert for
Healthcare will feature Confederate Railroad Saturday, April 2 at
the historic Fox Theatre in McCook. Brett Alan & The CRB Band will
open the evening. Tickets go on sale in March. This concert will be
the fourth in as many years to bring nationally known talent to entertain audiences on behalf of patients receiving care at Community
Hospital. Confederate Railroad is best known for their major hits.
Songs like “Queen of Memphis,” Trashy Women, Jesus and Mama,”
and “Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind.” From rowdy country to
raw emotion, a Confederate Railroad concert covers a wide range
of feelings and appeals to ages from young to old. “The band limits
their performances to 100 or so each year,” said Terri Shipshock,
Community Hospital Health Foundation Executive Director. “We are
fortunate to have booked this group to provide local entertainment
on behalf of healthcare services.” Net proceeds will allow Community Hospital Health Foundation to fund life-saving, state-of-the-art
equipment, support staff education, and assist patients when it is
needed the most. “It is our goal that with the support of generous
sponsors, 100% of your ticket purchase will go to support patient
care services,” Shipshock said. “Your attendance at this beneficial
event helps us preserve the facilities and programs that have been
brought to our region.”
NEBRASKA FARMS AND RANCHES HAVE DECLINED
The number of farms and ranches in Nebraska declined again last
year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Thursday that the
number of farms and ranches in the state declined 400 from the
previous year to 48,700 in 2015. The number of small farms with
less than $100,000 in revenue declined 500 while the number of
large farms increased by 100. The average size of farms in Nebraska increased by 7 acres to 928 acres. The total amount of land
used for farms and ranches in Nebraska remained unchanged at
45.2 million acres.

win away from competing for a state title. after
day one of the state meet in Omaha yesterday.
Kaden Guerrero and Garrett Fries of Southwest
join Southern Valley's Connor Berkquist in the
semifinal round tonight at CenturyLink Arena. First
round consolations in Classes B and C are this
morning followed by A and D. McCook's Jaret
Matson, Kaleb Taylor and Eric Langan all went 11 in their matches yesterday while teammate
Dunncan Fassler lost his first match and will wrestle first this morning. Listen for more reports with

The McCook Bison boys basketball team dropped
a 52-41 game last night at Cozad. Caleb Sheets
and Travis Wallen led the Bison with 13 points
