CIMT FAIR 2015
The 14th CIMT (CHINA INTERNATIONAL MACHINE TOOL SHOW),
the most important fair event in Asia,
took place in Beijing on April 20 – 25,
2014. ŠKODA MACHINE TOOL,
TOS KUŘIM and ČKD BLANSKO of
course were present at the fair. ŠKODA
MACHINE TOOL introduced its new
ŠKODA HCW 1000 manufactured in
cooperation with EASTERN SKODA
(Shenyang) MACHINE TOOL MODERNIZATION Co to Chinese visitors. This machine represented the
highlight of the Czech exhibit. TOS
KUŘIM and ČKD BLANSKO presented new catalogues within their improved exhibits.
DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DESIGN OF TOS KUŘIM AND ČKD BLANSKO MACHINES
The development of a new design represents an exceptional opportunity
to create a unified style that will allow
clear association of all types of machines with TOS Kuřim or ČKD BLANSKO. The aim of the shape design is to
emphasize the robustness, rigidity and
performance of machines, while creating a light optical character of the cover. A crucial role of the machine cover
design is to create a psychological feeling of a safe space, in which the operating staff is not disturbed and may concentrate on controlling the machine.
The author of the new machine design,
Matěj Sulitka, describes the design as
follows: „The specific shape was designed especially for large portal milling and carousel machines, where it
was necessary to unify the relatively
non-uniform composition of parts of
the machine load bearing structure.
The basic shape element is based on
the motive of an extended edge panel
with the machine logo. It is used in all
machines in the most visible parts of
covers – at edge parts of fully covered
machines, on covers of stand machines
or at spindles. Extended panels allow
application of attractive backlighting
with the option to change colours based on the current status of the machine.
Another characteristic element is the
trapezoidal contours of windows with
bevelling of lower edges and a distinct
black border. The unified style also
includes colour solution based on the
contrast of dark and light grey. The colour accent used for TOS Kuřim machines is bright red and for ČKD carousels it is dark blue. The application
of the colour corresponds to the machine character, i.e., in stand machines,
the colour strip is vertical and in portal
machines. it is horizontal.
In addition to machine covers, the
operator cockpit also has a unified
design. Large areas of polycarbonate
glazing with black glossy frames were
used. Application of new technological
procedures for gluing and use of light
sandwich panels on certain parts of
covers is based on extensive experience of TRATEC, which has established
itself on the Czech market as the leader
in machine covers.“

NEW LOOK OF ŠKODA MACHINE TOOLS
ŠKODA MACHINE TOOL a.s. is fully
aware of the importance of the external look of its products, which is why it
places, during production, emphasis on
high-quality design that would strengthen the position of the company in
the highly competitive environment.
The new look of the tools resulted from
a close cooperation of engineers and
industrial designers. The final product
represents a cultivated design that will
subsequently achieve targeted application of the unified design for all products
of the company. The first tools with the
new design are the horizontal milling
and boring machines ŠKODA HCW
1000 and ŠKODA FCW. Both machines
provide a high-comfort workplace with
top parameters.
Further machines will follow.
INNOVATION OF THE ŠKODA FCW SERIES
ŠKODA MACHINE TOOL a.s. is aware that
continuous introduction of new, technologically advanced products to the market is
crucial for ensuring further development and
keeping the company‘s position on the competitive market. Each development is preceded by marketing research based mostly on
requirements of the customers, trends on
global markets, monitoring of competitors,
etc. The company reacted to the market demand for smaller machines not only by the
successful ŠKODA HCW 1000, but also by a
significant modernization of the FCW series.
The first ŠKODA FCW machine was already
sold 15 years ago. Since then, 30 machines
have been sold to customers. The continuous
demand brought about the need of innovation that would improve the technical parame-
ters. The most significant of these innovations
is the prolongation of spindle extension (W
axis) and of slide extension (Z axis) for 100
mm. The total extension of Z+W is therefore
1900 mm. The new machine design increases
its reliability and makes the maintenance
easier; furthermore, its impressive shape unifies the look with horizontal machines of the
HCW series.
The first machine with these innovations will
be dispatched to Algeria. Before its dispatch,
it was introduced to the public within the
Company Day on 5 February 2015. The invitation to this event was accepted by 18 customers and dealers from the Czech Republic,
Germany, Poland, France and Austria.
TURN KEY PROJECT WALTER-ŠKODA MACHINE TOOL
JOINT SUCCESS IN THE SPIRIT OF ENGINEERING KOMPETENZ
Walter CZ was invited on the basis of a
tender to cooperate with Škoda Machine
Tool (ŠMT) on the project of implementing a technological solution for machining of 3 types of blocks of ship engines
by MAN for a customer in China. Walter CZ was involved in the project as the
supplier of complete machining technology, including a total of 260 standard and
special tools.
Requirements of ŠMT on suppliers also
included processing of a complete time
and costs study for the tools with a guarantee of both time and costs. The tender
winner would also attend the final technical meeting in China. „We succeeded in
the tender also thanks to meeting the requirement of technical support at the end
customer in China, which we were able
to provide thanks to a subsidiary of Walter AG in China (Wuxi),“ said Jiří Majer,
the technical director of Walter CZ. The
meeting at the end customer, the aim of
which was to agree on final details for the
technology and to clear any doubts, was
attended by ŠMT and representatives of
Walter CZ and Walter China.
„The success of the project also owes to
the extensive portfolio of precise Walter
machine tools (including deep drilling
technologies), as it allowed successful debugging and commissioning of the technology,“ added Majer.
On the basis of the success of this project,
other joint projects are currently being
discussed with Škoda Machine Tool.

THE NEW JOINT
CATALOGUE OF TOS
KUŘIM AND ČKD BLANSKO
At the beginning of 2015, the preparation
of a new catalogue containing the product portfolio of both companies began.
Its modern design and processing compete with the largest global players in the
field of machine tools. Its main purpose is
to help dealers during initial presentation
of our company and our machines.
The marketing department put emphasis
on simplicity and clarity of the whole
document. The catalogue was created in
five language mutations – Czech, Russian, English, German and Chinese. In the
future, we plan to expand it in accordance
with needs of the market, our customers
and dealers. The new catalogue is only
one piece in the mosaic of new, modern
presentation of both companies, which
currently is a work in progress. The website will also be given a new fresh look, as
well as fair expositions and other supporting marketing materials.
