Heirloom Garden News David Kizler celebrated at the Cambria Historical Museum with wife Layne and mother-in-law Dolores Gasbarra during a special Open House on Independence Day. Honored as "Mr. 20K" by members of the Board of Directors as soon as he signed the guestbook, he was recognized as the 20,000 visitor to the museum since its inception in December, 2008. Kizler was awarded a Commemorative Brick, an honorary membership, and gift certificates from Red Moose Cookie Company and Allocco Bakery The Cambria Historical Society and students . from Cambria Union High School’s Horticultural class shared the space in the back garden on May 19 for a plant sale. Students and museum garden docents had a successful day with visitors and Cambria Garden Tour participants purchasing many plants and outdoor items. It was a true team effort! Spotlight on Education The Cambria Historical Society awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Coast Union High School senior, Luis Gonzales, in May. Luis was the Senior Class President and he plans to attend UC Irvine to study biology and psychology. He would like to become an optical surgeon. Our goal is to award two scholarships next year. We will be collecting donations for the Youth Education Fund at the Harvest Festival and throughout the year, which will help provide scholarships and support other activities that promote Cambria history education for our community’s youth. The third and fourth grade students at Cambria Grammar School brightened up the display room in June with their dioramas depicting the life of the Chumash (3rd grade), and life during the California Gold Rush (4th grade).
