I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and you are ready for a fun-packed
2013.
REMINDER: Be sure to make a
reservation if you need
childcare for our
meeting. Cost is $10
for one child and $5 for
each additional child.
Childcare is for children
6 months or older. When
you make your reservation,
please indicate how many
children you will bring to the
meeting. We want to make
sure we have a low ratio of
children to moms, so we will
hire as many sitters that are
needed per the online sign
up. Snacks will also be
provided. If you have little
ones, feel free to bring them
to the meetings.
We have great meetings planned for January and February. If you have never been to
a meeting, these are the months to attend! Our January's meeting theme is "Are You
Raising a Praise Junkie?" and our speaker is Toni Borowczak who is a play
therapist.
Here is a preview of what we will hear:
Although praise is something we have all heard is essential in promoting a child's self
-esteem, encouragement is even more essential. Studies show that artificial praise
and/or too much praise can actually have an adverse affect. Come learn about the
difference between praise and encouragement and how to integrate it into your daily
language with your children. A recent study on the potential effects of praise on
children's performance will also be reviewed. If you have a desire to communicate
messages to your children that promote an intrinsic desire to learn and achieve, this is
the place for you!
If you can't make it to January's meeting, please try to attend February's meeting
which will feature "Love and Logic" with speaker Mary Hope Burns. "Love and
Logic" is one of my favorite discipline tools.
