In astrology, those born between the 1st
and 22nd of September are Virgos. Virgos
are industrious, efficient, and pay close
attention to details, which is why they tend
to get the job done right on the first try.
Those born between September 23rd and
30th balance the scales of Libra. Libras
seek harmony and value fairness and
justice. Although they’d rather avoid
conflict, they are excellent team players
who are tactful and polite at soothing those
embroiled in argument.
Pen Pal Program
Lenore R
Lenore Beth was born in Appleton, WI. As a
young child she moved to Madison, WI and
says she has liked being here ever since.
Lenore is very passionate about music. Ever
since growing up one of her most found
memories was having a separate music
room at her house. Her favorite genre is
country music. Classic artists such as,
Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Dolly
Parton. She also enjoys listening to Motown,
Blues and Rock from the 50’s and 60’s.
When she was younger she received many
awards from participating in the Special
Olympics. She competed in basketball, gymnastics, track and swimming.
One of Lenore’s hobbies is traveling with
friends. Her top choice of destination would
be Nashville, Tennessee. When she gets
asked if she has ever met anyone famous
she has a huge smile on her face! The list
includes Vince Gill, Johnny Cash, June
Carter Cash, and Hank Williams Jr.! Another
neat attraction she got to experience was going to the Rock- n- Roll Hall of Fame in
Cleveland.
Lenore has had many different types of occupations over the years. The most
recent was working for CTW Flooring helping
clean. Some others include Goodwill East
Springs, Second Harvest Food Pantry, and
The American Red Cross where she
assembled CPR kits.
If you haven’t met Lenora yet, please introduce yourself and give a
big hello!

National Adult Day
Services Week
September 18-24, 2016
The third week of September is set aside to
raise awareness of the availability and
accessibility of adult day centers nationwide.
National Adult Day Services week has
been celebrated annually since it was proclaimed on September 27, 1983 by former
President Ronald Regan. Why is this an important service to celebrate,
recognize, and utilize you may ask?
According to MetLife National Study, the
number of adults age 65 and older in the
U.S. is expected to rise from 40 million in
2010 to 55 million in 2020. With the
projected growth in the older population and
resulting increase in the numbers of
individuals who will require long-term care,
the need for community based providers
such as adult day services centers will continue to grow. Today there are over 4,600
adult day service centers
nationwide, which, at any given time, serve
over 260,000 adults.
Adult Day Centers provide a program of
activities, socialization, health monitoring,
and assistance with daily activities which allows individuals to continue to live in their
homes and receive needed care in a
supportive professionally staffed,
The services also benefit family caregivers
by enabling them to remain in the workforce
as well as providing them with direct support.
A recent study was conducted by Dr. Steven
Zarit identifying that family care providers
showed lower stress levels on days when
their family members attended adult day services. We know that caregivers are at increased risk of illness, because of the long
hours of care they provide and the high levels of stress. Adult Day Centers are a powerful service that supports so many and is a
key provider for both the participant of the
program and their caregiver.

2016 Summer Picnic
We had a spectacular day at Warner Park
to celebrate our Island Paradise themed
picnic. DeLoitte Consulting volunteered
with us again for the 14th year in a row to
celebrate United Way’s Day of Caring. A
huge thank you to all the volunteers and
to Sara Eskrich with Deloitte Consulting
for helping coordinate the event.
We started the morning with:
*carnival games
* successful fishing in the lagoon
*creating braided dog toys to donate to the
Dane County Humane Society
*decorating a sand cup
*amazing and artistic face painting by
Tami from Funny Faces
*walks around the park area
*photo booth opportunities
* Bob Marley serenading us in the background
*Staff raffled off many handmade items
donated from area groups
The DeLoitte staff served the participants
their lunch which consisted of jerk pulled
pork sandwich, pineapple coleslaw, Hawaiian roll, upside down pineapple cake. The
volunteers were wonderful with the participants and they enjoyed themselves as
well.
Our annual picnic ended with Bahama
Bob, the phenomenal steel drum player,
who got us dancing to the sounds of the
Islands!
Aloha to another year!

person in your care
 How to use assistive devices to make
personal cares and transfers safer
Patti has many years of experience working in a health care setting. When asked
why she enjoys working in this field, Patti
responded, “I find great joy out of seeing
our adults have an amazing quality of life,
to see them enjoy their day with laughter
and friendship is amazing to me. I have
spent most of my life caring for others and I
can only hope they take away a little bit of
joy and love from the time we spend together. “
Patti’s has two mottos she lives by in life
