Kaithal: The Land of
Historical Panaroma
Kaithal is only three and half hours away from the
national capital and offers various placement
opportunities
Kaithal was part of the Karnal district at the time
of Haryana state formation. Later Kaithal became
the part of the Kurukshetra district. 1 November
1989, when it became the headquarters of the
Kaithal District of Haryana. Kaithal is only three
and half hours away from the national capital.
Kaithal has many colleges and schools which are
imparting world class education to the students
of the Kaithal district area. The NIILM Education
Trust has formed the NIILM University in Kaithal.
The foundation stone of the NIILM University
was laid down by Hon’ble Shri. Randip
Surjewala, Minister, Haryana Government and
MLA from Kaithal. This forms a major landmark
in the district of Kaithal in the education sector.
The international feel, great infrastructure and
the quality of education provided all contribute
to its academic excellence. It is believed that in
the coming years formation of this University will
contribute in a big way to growth and
development of not only Kaithal, but the entire
state. At present Kaithal is a flourishing town
known for its cotton and rice plantations. All
modern facilities and amenities are available. It
has malls and multiplexes and forms a hub for
youth both for education and recreation.
Historical Perspective
An important town during Akbar's rule, it is
located near the Bidkiar Lake. The town is said to
have been founded by Yudhishthira in
celebration of the Pandavas' victory in the
Mahabharata. It was first known as Kapisthala, or
Abode of Monkeys, and is the birth place of the
monkey god Hanuman. A temple in memory of
Hanuman's mother, Anjana, is built here.
The Site of Battle Between Razia Sultan
and Delhi Forces
A fierce battle between Razia Sultan (Iltutmish's
successor) and the rebel forces of Delhi, was
fought here. She is said to be buried here,
although her tomb is also to be found in Delhi.
There is also a mosque near her tomb. The
Emperor Akbar renovated this town and built a
fort, and after the third battle of Panipat the region
came under the rule of Bhai Desu Singh, a Sikh
leader, whose palace has now been converted
into a police station and overlooks the lake.
The Main Attractions
The Phelgu tank is a watery and holy site in honour
of Rishi Phelgu who meditated here, and the
Pundri tank dates back to the Mahabharata period.
A few temples are also scattered around, like the
Saraswati temple, Kapil Muni temples and Baba
Narayan Das temple. The tombs of Shah Wilayat,
Sheik Shihabuddin, Shah Kamal and Bidkiyar Lake
itself are worth a look.
Brick Temples
Going by legend, a king called Shalivahana ruled
this area in the 7th century AD. He was cursed that
he would die during the night, but by a stroke of
luck he touched the earth where the temple now
stands. The curse was revoked, and the king's
happiness knew no boundaries. So he gave orders
for five temples to be built, out of which only two
stand now.
One of them must have originally stood on a
terrace but is now half buried under a mound of
earth. Both temples follow the Ajanta-Ellora
pattern of a rock cut facade. Constructed from
carved bricks, the highest point culmintaes in a
shikara (pinnacle) and is joined in a beehive
manner.

Undergraduate Courses
Undergraduates at NIILM University can
register for a professional degree course
resulting in the award of a Bachelor's degree
(BA, BBA, BTech,) from NIILM University.
The undergraduate courses are pursued full
time and last for three or four years
depending on the award. Courses where
industry internships play a role are of four
years duration.

Nominate - a - Scholar is the privilege given to
Principals of all schools to identify gifted students
in any field who may not have the means to
pursue their goals. Principals may recommend
them for scholarships of up to 100% tuition fee
waiver in any of the courses of NIILM
University, using his/her discretion for the
nominations and the respective amounts of
scholarship.
Library & Lab
The library serves as a backbone to all academic
activities on the campus. Our library houses a
collection of text and reference materials,
journals, magazines, audio-videos, CDROMs
and research reports which have been carefully
selected from a number of national and
international professional institutions. All
students have direct access to library resources
not only of their own faculty but also of other
faculty to promote interdisciplinary interaction.
Computing Facilities
Computer laboratories equipped with Internet
access and latest software constitute an integral
part of our campus. We provide a network of
advanced machines adequately matched and
supported by a host of printers, scanners,
modems and other peripherals. A large amount

Individual Action Plan
In order to encourage greater student initiative in
the self-learning process every NIILM University
Scholar maintains an Individual Action Plan (IAP)
from the very beginning of the academic session.
The IAP consists of the students' self-evaluation
of individual strengths and weaknesses and
identification of skills that they wish to develop in
the context of their work, environment,
interests and aims. In this manner, students are
taught to profile and map their own progress
reports and finally their individual career paths.
Reflective Journal
The Reflective Journal is maintained by all
students in relation to their assignments. It
provides an insight into analytical thought
process for task orientation in assignment
activity. It addresses the reasons for the
preferred course of action adopted and its
practical applicability in a real environment.
ASCOM
There exists a strong Academic Support
Committee (ASCOM) comprising student
nominees from various academic disciplines.
ASCOM recommendations play a key role in the
periodic review and evaluation of faculty
performance and curriculum efficacy.

shown is that pure academic skills, alone, are

have a pleasing personality, good
communication skills, patience, tolerance,
appreciation, tact, efficiency, literacy,
awareness. These essentials are what we
term as “Life Skills” taught as a compulsory
subject during every semester to all our
students in all our colleges through courses on
- `SELS’ – Strategic Entrepreneurial
Leadership Skills’ and `PCC-Personal and
Corporate Communications’ among others.

Branding is applicable not just to consumer

applicants for every good job available. The
process, of short-listing the candidates to call
for interview is quite a difficult one. To shortlist
best 25 out of the 500 is highly dependent on
the HR Managers or potential employers

CGC keeps itself updated with the latest
international and national industry trends and the

CGAC of NIILM University is an expert body

robust and proactive-CPPC works in coordination
with the students inculcating in them a positive

The Career Planning & Placement Cell continuously
invites organizations to visit its campus by way of

Interaction with Industry
CPPC assists students in developing an awareness of
cutting-edge careers by organising guest lectures,
panel discussions, conferences and workshops from
time to time. In addition, NIILM University has strong
links with prominent industrial groups which generate
valuable synergy between students and corporate
organizations. The University organizes a numerous
industrial visits and field trips to students of various
disciplines.
Guidance Tutors: Nurturing Relationships
At NIILM University, all NIILM Tutors also act as
Guidance Tutors (GTs). The concept of a GT, which is
not new, is that of a friend, philosopher and guide. All
students are assigned Guidance Tutors who monitor
their academic progression and personal
development. These sessions address issues of both
personal and social importance like peer pressure,
time management, performance, anxiety, abuse,
drugs, alcohol and sexuality. This interactive platform
significantly enhances the introspective and problem
solving abilities of the students thus leading them
towards greater self-reliance in the learning process.
