Kalimat, leading Arabic publisher, was
launched in 2007 with the aim of sharing
stories among children across the globe,
giving them the opportunity to know a
glimpse of each other’s values and habits,
cultures and societies.
We travel through our books to regional
and international markets to nurture greater
compassion and cultural understanding
among future generations.
We thus believe that each and every book
should be presented as a piece of art,
offering readers an exceptional experience, a
stimulating journey that lies secretly within the
covers and is revealed between the pages.

Puppet Books
The puppet books set introduces 6 animals to toddlers through a finger puppet in which a child
could interact with. Each book is designed with a puppet protruding from every page to present
the keywords for its habitat, sound, food and name of its infant. These books were designed to
create a playful learning process through storytelling and movement since, for toddlers, interaction
with educational content could be a successful method for engaging their interest.

Summary: Zein’s mother just had twins. He starts to
feel left out and tries to regain his central position by
grabbing everyone’s attention around the house. What
about Me? tells the story of the elder child who faces
sentiments of jealousy and unsettlement when a new
sibling arrives into the family’s home by highlighting
how parents should understand their children and help
them get through this tough stage with utmost love
and care.
Summary: Zein says goodnight to mom and dad
and heads straight to bed as if it were the last thing
he is going to do. To his parents’ surprise this was
the beginning of a long night with Zein’s sleepless
adventures. He calls for mom and dad to play, go to
the toilet, drink water and get hugs because he can’t
sleep. His mother knows exactly how to help him fall
asleep and succeeds. I Can’t Sleep is a story parents
would easily relate to about their children’s behavior
and humorous excuses to get out of sleeping.
Summary: Zein misses his father the whole day and
calls him at work to try and get him to come earlier. He
misses his father most when he isn’t around to play
ball with him, when he’s not there to build sand castles
or when Zein can’t share his school stories with him.
He waits around all day, eats the cake, reads his book,
and counts the stars but dad doesn’t show up. I Miss
Daddy is the story of many children who are unhappy
about their parents’ jobs portraying the different ways
they try in order to keep them home and spend a
loving time with them.
Summary: Zein can’t sleep because of a question on
his mind. He wants to understand what grownups do
when children go to bed. He leads an investigation
with his siblings and executes various search plans
to solve this mystery. What they believe grownups do
never seems to be what they normally do and that
disappoints the children very much. The Grownup’s
Mystery is a humorous detective story demonstrating
that children imagine missing out on their parent’s
events at night while in reality grownups do mundane
and uneventful activities after children go to sleep.

Summary:
A little boy wakes up to the call of ‘red sweet red’ from
the morning vendor selling fruit. His curiosity increases
daily as he unsuccessfully tries to catch the vendor
and discover the red sweet fruit he has on his cart. He
plays a game with his mother to try and guess what the
vendor might be referring to. Perhaps it is watermelon,
strawberries or grapes.
Summary:
Cabbages smell bad and taste bad! The little boy hates
them. When he spends time with grandma he enjoys
every bit of going around her garden and looking at
her plants, he loves her food and fun stories. On a fun
weekend, the boy is surprised to see that grandma has
prepared cabbages for lunch and dinner. He is starving
and has no other options.
Set in the heart of a traditional Levantine street, Red
and Sweet introduces a playful venture to guess the
fruit with the narrator and understand the different
colloquial expressions used by Arab vendors.
Grandma’s Cabbage tells the story of every child who
was faced with the horrors of cabbages, peas, broccoli
or any other vegetable parents made them eat, and
suggests that what looks or smells bad can actually
taste delicious and is worth trying.

imaginative finger puppet books to delight and enchant the
very young.
Language has always been my passion since my childhood.
I grew up, studied economics, and started to work, but
language kept pursuing me and making me feel it was waiting
for me. This is when I decided to write, or let’s say this is when
I thought of publishing some of what I write. Children’s books
impressed me most. I published my first book in 2006, then
my second, and I’m still writing and publishing until this day.
At the present moment, I have 8 books for children between
the age of 5 and 10. I have big dreams that I would like to
imagine that one day would all be published into books.
